“Hey Rudo!!” Chiwa, the girl who became my first and only friend cheers with endless joy as she races towards me, nearly tripping over her feet as she does so. “Look what I found!” she giggles, out of breath from running towards my home.
Me, who just woke up barely five minutes ago and is still trying to get used to the bright ass sun shining down at me with no mercy, definitely not ready for whatever the day has to throw at me but don’t tell anybody that part, and is fighting off the endless pain from my hands just responds with a very simple greeting. “Good morning Chiwa… what did you find..? Is it trash?” I ask, rather quietly, I don’t talk much at all. She does all of the talking, she talks for the both of us.
After being friends for a few years now I have been able to get myself to talk more with her, its comforting to know I’m not a total lost cause… I didn’t think I would be able to comunicat with anyone before meeting Regto and Chiwa..
Chiwa’s smile brightens, “no..” she starts, vibrating with laughter. Chiwa knows how much I adore trash, she always brings me something to repair when she can, trying to get me away from digging in the rich folks landfills. To dangerous she says, her and Regto care to much honeslty. Im fine. “BUT! I have this instead!” Chiwa shouts, shoving a bright blue flower in my face, it’s petals glistening in the sunlight. Almost glowing.
I gasp slightly, looking down at the flower that Chiwa somehow got her hands on. Only the rich side has these things, I hear they call them flowers…
The tribes folk don’t see flowers, we can only wish they grew here but our land is way too dry with too little water. If any does sprout its dead within the evening, so to find one, pick one, and bring it back is just…
Wait how did she get it?
She didn’t sneak over and pick up this flower from one of the flower beds there right!?
“Oh don’t worry Rudo,” Chiwa says, teasing me without having to say much. But unlike how the others would make fun of me she doesn’t say these words to hurt, she say’s them with affection and love. It makes me feel warm and confused at the same time. “This flower was hiding behind some rubble near the edges! I just happened to be walking when I stumbled across them.. Aren’t they pretty?” she exclaims, sounding proud of herself, just as she should be.
“....yeah, they are..” I say, not sure what to do next, should I continue talking or-
“Here ya go!” Chiwa then shoves the flower into my hands, “this is for you! I’m sur eyo uwould take much better care of it than me anyways.” She says, glancing at the flower before looking back at me.
“Uh-okay.. Thanks..?”
“Anyways lets go, we have the whole day to kill!”
