Chapter 1: Sableye

Chapter Text

"Soooo... We're just looking for some gems and crystals for you to eat?" Kayla asked, walking through the large cave with Gin.

"Precisely, my trainer!" The Sableye responded, trotting forward and sniffing around. Sure, he had a shit sense of smell, but he was the BEST at sniffing out gems and crystals. "We'll get as many as we can, then go home."

"Alright, just make sure it isn't any that we aren't allowed to take."

"..." Gin looked up from where he was now clawing at the ground, his claws already piercing the thick rock. Then he grinned, flashing his sharp, jagged (and now clean) teeth. "No promises~!"

Kayla sighed.

"Wait—are the crystals we're looking for like... These?" She asked, gently poking a gem on his back.

He jumped, his purple fur puffing up like a startled Sprigatito. "AEEEK!!—" Gin paused, realising the noise he'd just made. His usually clear gem eyes becoming more... Glossed over?

Then he blushed furiously, standing back up on his hindlegs. He shoved both his arms over his face, grumbling into them like a nervous school kid. "Don't—Don't do that..."

"...What the fuck was that about??" Kayla muttered softly, confused at the reaction to a simple touch of the back gem.

"UHHHHH—" He gulped, puffing up his cheeks as he thought, then breathing out. "...I—It's, uhm... Touching a gem on a Sableye's back is... Intimate, I guess." Gin replied, his ears twitching softly. "For... Partners. Romantic ones."

...

...

Kayla stared.

...

"I'M SO SORRY—" She suddenly shouted, putting her hands over her mouth as she looked like the biggest failure to ever exist.

"It's fine, kid!— I'm a newer Pokémon to you. You don't have nearly as much information as a professor—and even they don't know much sometimes." He assured, his croaky voice becoming worse as he panicked at Kayla's panicking.

Kayla but her lip. "Sorryyyyyy..." She apologized again.

"Kayla—it's. Fine." Gin firmly stated, pronouncing each word like it was the most obvious fact in the universe.

"Yeah, okay.. Let's get back to getting you gems, right?"

"Mhm."

Gin shivered as he went back to digging up the gem he'd found before the whole... Ordeal. He was more... Tense now, though. Sure, he trusted his trainer, but instincts were a bitch.

After a while, they'd made a pretty nice pile of gems. If Gin didn't gorge on them in one day, then they'd last for two weeks at most, one at the least.

Sableye's didn't actually have to eat that many gems and such to be full, they were just a naturally giant-appetited species of Pokémon.

"Would this one work?" Kayla asked, holding up a gem. It looked like any normal blue gem.

Gin shook his head. "Nah, nah. Not the one's I eat. Look—you can see at the edges. They fade into dark purple instead of deep blue." He informed.

"Huh. Good to know." Kayla mumbled, then pocketed the gem.

Suddenly, Gin yawned.

"Heh... Are you tired?" Kayla teased softly.

"Very..." He groaned, faceplanting into the gem pile they'd made.

"Uh-uh! We're saving those."

Gin whined as his head was pulled back from the pile, frowning.

"Can we go home noooooow...?" He slurred.

"Mhm, we can go home." Kayla replied, putting the gem pile into her bag.

"Finally."
