Scythe Accidentally Has Emotions (Not clickbait)

Summary:

I think this was my first ever Phighting! fic I ever made. I really like the dynamic between these too. It might be a little bit of ooc, heck, its probably very ooc, but hope you enjoy the Scythe mental breakdance fic! :D

Work Text:

Scythe had always been a complicated woman. Hell, some phighters thought she was a man. Which was understandable, not very many women were in the mercenary Workforce.

But Vine Staff was always kind to her.

Being there for her whenever she needed it.

Like...

Now.

Currently, Scythe was going to a rough patch, seasonal depression or whatever the fuck people called it nowadays.

"Do you want to talk about it?" Vine Staff's sweet voice asked, already doing wonders on Scythe's mental state. Scythe shook her head slowly, tears stripping down her cheeks. Vine let out a hum of acknowledgment, looking around the room. The two of them were cuddled up on the couch, Vine hugging the larger phighter to help comfort her. It wasn't often the mercenary would open up, so Vine Staff had to make her feel safe.

Loved.

Maybe it wasn't a good idea to do this here. Any of the other phighters could walk in, they live together in a big house after all, courtesy of the Flipside.

"Hey, do you want to take this into my room?" Scythe nodded her head, unraveling herself, albeit reluctantly, out of Vine Staff's grasp with a sniff. She brought a hand up to her face, covering it from Vine's view as she wiped her tears, trying to remove all evidence that she was crying. Even though it was still painfully obvious.

After a rather uneventful walk, the two arrived in Vine Staff's room. It was cute. A lot different from Scythe's. They were decorations featuring flowers everywhere, vine curtains by her bed, flower magnets on a whiteboard, and overall very cheery vibe. "It's nice in 'ere." Scythe muttered, her cheeks glowing a soft teal at the admission. Vine Staff stammered out of thanks before waving Scythe over to her bed, smiling warmly.

Scythe's eyes wide and slightly before getting onto Vine's bed, stiffly lying backwards. Vine Staff chuckled at the sight, climbing into the bed and hugging onto Scythe, like how they were on the couch. Scythe let out a surprised grunt before relaxing, nuzzling against the inpherian besides her. "Thank ya'..." she breathed into Vine's hair, squeezing the smaller girl in her grasp. Scythe let her eyes drift close, lost in the warmth and comfort Vine Staff brought her.

-

After around 30 minutes of this, there was a knocking at the door. Vine Staff perked up, giving Scythe a squeeze before getting up to answer it. It was Shuriken, looking awkward.

"Hey...I came to get Scythe, Valk wants her for an interview." He explains, a blush coloring his cheeks.

Vine Staff blinked in confusion before responding. "Yeah, that's fine, she's feeling a lot better." Vine Staff waves Shuriken into the room, where Scythe was sitting up on the bed.

"Ah? Oh. Wait."

Shuriken stuttered, looking between the two of them, an unnecessary realization dawning on him.

"You guys weren't banging?"

Vine's cheeks glowed bright pink at her brother's comment. She rapidly shook her head, waving her arms out in front of her.

"Of course not!! Why would you even think that??"

She stammered out, looking at Scythe for support, who just shrugged innocently in response. "W-Well, you two just came in here after snuggling on the couch and nobody heard from you for like, an hour!" Shuriken said, his own cheeks starting to glow a lime green, but from embarrassment.

"Whatever. Anyway. I'm good for an interview. I'll see ya' later Flowers." Scythe said rather suddenly, already halfway out of the door to Vine's room before she turned back to the pink phighter.

"Thanks, by the way..." Vine Staff smiled softly, shaking her head.

"Don't worry about it, really."
