Chapter Text
James’ Pov:
I can't sleep one bit… Today had been an overwhelming day beyond imagination. There had been a quiz for potions class with a pop quiz for transfiguration, followed by a surprise spur of reading work for tonight. Then there had been a practice match for quittige, it had been against Slytherin no less. My everything aches. I had tried to go to sleep hours ago but have had no luck at all. All of that just to
spend the last three hours tossing and turning to try and get at least slightly comfortable. I flip over once more, no longer facing the wall and instead up towards the bedframe. Sirius had gone to sleep long ago, as did Remus and Peter… I hold my gaze on the top of my bed, the glow stars I had managed to buy while on break glowing with neon green. It's long past midnight now…I gaze up at the glow stars once again, an idea forming in my mind.
One that could get me into a load of trouble…but so much more worth it. I pull my covers off, grabbing my wand and quietly making my way to the bathroom. I shut the door as quietly as its squeaky hinges will allow me too. Only turning on the light when the door is shut tight. “I hope he's awake…” I mumble quietly to myself, and flick my wrist. “Expecto Patronum.” I whisper. A surge of magic courses through my wand, an ocean blue stag appearing in front of me. I flick my wrist again, giving the stag another surge of magic, this time followed with a command of where it should go. I watch as the stag bows its head to me, passing through the wall to find him…
I watch the wall for at least thirty seconds before I come to myself again. I walk to the bathroom door turning the light off once again as I exit. I tiptoe across the room to the dresser Sirius and I share. Easing a drawer open I grab my cloak from inside, as well as a sweater. Easing the drawer back shut I make my way to the door leading to the common room, where hopefully no one is. I slip out of the room as quietly as I can. Peeking my head around a wall, I scan the common room for any signs of people, alive as well as deceased. I heave out a sigh, no one that's good. I make my way across the common room as quietly as I can. Pushing open the door to the main hall, easing it shut. “Visiting someone again are we James Potter.” I startle turning around. Oh…thank fuck- “Yes miss, I'm sorry to disturb you again..”
I bow my head slightly, putting on my best apologetic face. “You won't tell, will you?” I incline my head up to her. She puts on an act of contemplating, then smiles. “No kiddo, you ‘right. Go on then, just don't get caught.” I smile at her. “Thanks miss!” She winks at me one last time before returning to her…whatever she must have been doing before. I begin to make my way down the corridors, carefully listening for footsteps as I make my way ‘round the twists and turns of the corridors. My heart a little on edge by the darkness. Though it is not as dark as it usually is, as the moon is shining brightly through the rows of columns. I turn another corner, the last one I need to turn.
My heart does a small skip as I see the faint glow of a Lumos spell. A shiver of anticipation as I grab the handle to the Astronomy class’ door. I ease the door open. He turns just as I open the door. “Hey..” I smile at him. “Couldn't sleep Potter?” Regulus says already standing at the Astronomy Table. His usually perfect curls askew, and his neat robes replaced by pajamas. Regulus Black, my boyfriend.
Reglulus’ Pov:
My mind has been plagued by nightmares recently, and tonight was no different. My breathing is rapid and uneven as I awaken with a cold sweat. The same dream…Merlin it's less than a dream and more of an epileptic's nightmare. Flashing pictures of a key, a lockbox, and a sword… None of which make any sense to me. At all…I've only told Pandora of these nightmares, she's the expert of the Slytherin Skittles. Even Barty and Evan won't argue with her logic, and they like to argue about everything. I push my hand through my hair. My nerves finally calming down. I reach over to my nightstand, grabbing the watch from off of it.
I check it and groan, two thirty it reads. I find I can never fall back asleep after I have the nightmare. Therefore my sleep has been declining more and more. I rub my eyes and throw my blankets off. Not caring about how much noise I make since, Barty and Evan sleep like piles of rocks. I head over to my desk, dropping right into the chair per usual. My thumb caresses the ring on my finger. A gift…from him. Heat rises to my face, but my brain is tugging at me. Something's in the room with me. I pull my wand out of my pocket and turn quickly. I startle slightly, but that doesn't last long. A doe Patronus is suspended in the air in front of me. It bows its head to me then, beckons me to follow it. Merlin's beard he is such a sap. I quickly make my way to follow it. Not bothering to check if anyone's even in the common room.
No one would dare approach me anyways, well no one with a brain at least. I flick my wrist and mutter a spell. “Lumos.” A surge of light rushes to the tip of my wand. I follow after the doe Patronus. Making my way down the corridors and towards our usual meet up spot for our late night “insomniac club” as he would call it. I snort slightly. Finally making it to the Astronomy Classes room door. I take my wand and give my wrist another flick and then swish. “Alohomora.” I mutter.
The door nearly slams into the wall before I reach out and catch it. Closing the door I head into the room, not bothering to lock the door as he's probably not far behind. I head over to the Astronomy table, setting up and thinking about him. I hear the door open behind me, turning just as he looks at me. “Hey…” I say “Couldn't sleep Potter?” James Potter stands in the doorway, looking just as devilished as I do. “You couldn't either I see love?” My boyfriend James Potter, sap of the year award shouldn't go to anyone but him…I smile slightly. “Why're you up so late?” He asks. I raise an eyebrow. “I should ask you the same shouldn't I?” He looks down kicking the imaginary dust on the ground. “I…uh just wanted to see you..” He mumbles kicking at the imaginary dust still. I smile again, bringing my hands to his face, and lifting it up towards mine.
We both lean in and our lips lock, and his tongue slips past my lips and in my mouth. Our kiss deepens as he lifts me up onto the Astronomy Table. I slip my arms under his and embrace him. We pull apart for a moment and he smirks at me. “This is loads better than sleeping isn't it.” he says , raising an eyebrow he doesn't let me say anything before he leans in and kisses me again, harder this time. His hands slide up the front of my chest, before making their way to my back. He kisses me harder and harder, deeper and deeper. A little saliva spills out the side of our mouths. We pull apart for a moment, and James takes a hand out from underneath my shirt to wipe it from my face.
James goes to lean in again, just as we hear multiple voices. Shit. We look at each other, and confusion passes between the two of us. Why are there so many teachers out in the halls…..A blood curdling scream sounds from the same direction down the hall. My blood goes cold. “What in Merlin's name was that….” James looks at me. I wish I knew…
James’ Pov:
That scream cannot have been anything good… I look at Reg. “We should get out of here…” I suggest. He nods. “Brilliant idea.. just how do you suppose we are going to do that? They're right outside the door for Merlin’s sake.”
I look around, my eyes landing on my cloak. “Ok,” I look at Reg. “You have to trust me.” He makes a face at me. “What do you mean?” I walk across the room as I talk, picking up the cloak from the table I put it on. “I- we,” I turn to him, cloak in hand. “I have an invisibility cloak.” He looks at me blankly. “Are you messing with me Potter, Merlin, someone could be dying out there.” I shake my head. “Im not! I swear, here look.” I swing the cloak over my shoulders. Shutting it tightly around me, I watch as my lower body disappears leaving just my head visible. Glancing up at Reg as the last of my lower body disappears. “Merlin James you weren't kidding, that's extraordinary…” I nod.
“Now get under, unless if you want to get caught, and possibly murdered.” I watch him hesitate slightly before walking over. I pull Reg towards me, lifting the cloak up and over to cover us both. I shift the cloak as it’s not covering us completely, then glance down towards Reg. He fixes his posture about three times before giving up and realizing it's not going to happen. “Reg…” I say in a hushed tone. He glances up at me.”What?” He whispers. “Are you okay to walk or do you need to fix your posture again?
”
Reg shakes his head. “Right, sorry. I'm all good, let's go. Where did you even get a cloak like this…?” He rambles on for a few more seconds before stopping completely, face turning red. He points towards the door. “Should we..?” I laugh slightly. “Come on.” I put my arm around him, the one not holding the cloak, and we begin walking towards the door. I look at him one more time. “Stay quiet.” I whisper, he nods at me slightly.
