Chapter Text

Very quickly, Rachel had learned just how strange McKinley High is.

She sat in the guidance counselors office, awaiting direction—and a schedule, which she moreso needed—but Ms. Pillsbury was busying herself with wiping off her fruits. "Just a moment, please." She had said.

Finally, she looked at her. "So! Rachel, here you go," she chirped, handing her the schedule. "Two dads, huh?"

Rachel nodded. "Yeah, my mother was—"

"That's enough." Ms. Pillsbury interrupted, handing her a brochure. She read the cover, which had said: "My Dad Is Gay!".

Just what was Rachel Berry to do? Back at her old school, she was a star, hitting any and every note at ease. Now she's a nobody, receiving odd brochures. She would just have to climb back up the long, treacherous ladder of stardom.

"Well, thank you.." Rachel paused, reading Ms. Pillsbury's name off of the desk. "..Ms. Pillsbury. But, I must go, as my next class is very, very, soon."

And Rachel had already sprung out of her seat, heading towards the door. Before she could fully exit, she almost bumped into a tall guy who clearly was a snob, as he looked her up and down judgementally.

"Hi, I'm Tina Cohen-Chang, I'm supposed to be showing you around." A girl with black hair and blue highlights had grabbed and shook Rachel's hand. She smiled, Tina had seemed normal enough.

"Wow! I'm surprised they didn't send one of those show choir nerds," Rachel had quipped, mostly as a joke because she herself was a show choir nerd.

"Are you still coming to Glee today, Tina?" A guy in a wheelchair asked.

Tina had completely disregarded this man and started walking. "So, Rachel," she gestured to a group of jocks. "Those are your average jocks. Not too much going on in their heads. Don't talk to them unless they talk to you first."

Rachel tilted her head. "Why not?" she asked, briefly glancing at a boy who looked way sweeter than the rest of the jocks.

"It's just one of their social rules," Tina explained. She gestured to a boy with a ginger afro who seemed to be terrorizing two girls while holding a microphone with the flag of Israel on it. "He's a freak, don't answer any of his questions."

Rachel was surprised by the sheer variety of people. At her old school, everyone got along, and at worst, everyone kept to themselves. She had spaced out until she noticed a blonde—presumably a cheerleader, based on her clothing—walk by, along with another blonde and a brunette. Her eyes were stuck on the blonde.

"What category is she in?" She hadn't even realized she said this out loud until Tina had answered with a firm shake of her head. "She's in the "Don't Even Think About It" category. Her dad has this crazy strict rule where she can't date. At all."

Rachel sighed wistfully. "Oh, Tina, I yearn."

"Yearn all you want. Half of this school does."

Rachel shook her head. "No, you don't understand." she lamented. Never had she thought she would be acting so openly lesbian (well, technically bisexual) infront of some girl she'd only known for a few minutes, but Tina seemed supportive enough.

"Us together would be a power couple. With my voice and her looks, we would be an unstoppable duo. And we would have so much chemistry," she rambled on.

Tina sighed. "Look, you have to move on. I don't make the rules here."

But Rachel was not listening, now trailing behind the trio of cheerleaders, wanting to hear it all, to know everything she could know about this gorgeous girl.

"Y'know Puckerman? He cheated. Again." said one of the cheerleaders. The brunette. "I was about to go full Lima Heights on his ass until my girl Britt called me up."

"Cheetahs are the fastest land animal," mumbled the other blonde, to which the brunette had smiled.

"I really don't want to hear about Puck right now. He was so annoying in first period today," complained the blonde. Rachel's heart fluttered. She had the voice of an angel!

"What are you doing?" Tina practically hissed, pulling her away. "Give. It. Up. C'mon, there are so many other cute girls at this school."

Rachel couldn't give it up. Not for one second. Once Rachel Berry wanted something, she got it, without exception.
