Work Text:

The bass from the arena bowl still vibrates through the concrete floors of the dressing room, a low, rhythmic thrum that lingers long after the final house lights go up. Inside the backstage sanctuary of the UBS Arena, the air smells of hairspray, expensive cologne, and the sharp, comforting scent of fresh-brewed black coffee. Jimin sits dead center on the oversized black leather couch, his spine curved in a posture of easy relaxation that only comes after hours of high-tension waiting. He has one leg tucked comfortably beneath him, the fabric of his oversized designer hoodie swallowing his frame. Across from him, Sejin stands near the catering table, a clipboard tucked under his arm, his expression a familiar mix of post-show exhaustion and quiet pride.

"The arrangement is just so clean," Jimin says, his voice a soft, melodic murmur that cuts through the hum of the dressing room's mini-fridge. He gestures with a slight wave of his hand, tracking his thoughts in the air. "The acoustic guitar at the beginning changes the whole emotional weight. When Yoongi-hyung sings 'Life Goes On,' it doesn't feel like a lament anymore. It feels like a promise. It’s really, really good, Sejin-nim."

Sejin offers a warm, crinkling smile, nodding in agreement. "He worked through four different iterations of that bridge before the tour started. I'm glad it’s translating well to the live audience."

At the sound of his owner's name, a small, dark blur detaches itself from the pile of discarded stage outfits in the corner. Holly, the curly-haired toy poodle, trots across the polished floor with an air of absolute ownership. His tiny claws make a rapid *clack-clack-clack* sound against the tile before he transitions smoothly onto the plush rug beneath the couch. He stops right at the perimeter of the seating area, his dark button eyes fixed intently on the heavy door.

Right on cue, the brass handle turns with a heavy click. The door swings inward, and the ambient noise of the backstage corridor—the shouting of stagehands, the rolling of heavy equipment cases—floods the room for a split second before Min Yoongi steps inside and shuts the world out behind him.

Yoongi looks thoroughly wrecked in the most spectacular way possible. His hair is a damp, dark mop clinging to his forehead, his skin glowing with a thick sheen of sweat under the harsh fluorescent lights. The collar of his stage shirt is stretched, and adrenaline still hums through his veins, making his shoulders rise and fall with deep, rhythmic breaths. He tosses his microphone pack onto the counter by the mirror, lets out a long, grounding exhale, and looks straight at Jimin.

"That was fun," Yoongi says. His voice is a low, gravelly rasp, thoroughly scraped raw from two hours of commanding a stadium crowd, yet it carries an unmistakable undercurrent of profound satisfaction.

He doesn't wait for a response, nor does he pause to shed his damp jacket. Two steps into the room, his trajectory is locked entirely on the black leather couch. He bridges the remaining distance between them in a single, fluid stride, reaching out to catch Jimin’s hand before he even fully sits down. His fingers are warm, slightly damp, and rough with guitar calluses, but they lock instantly around Jimin’s smaller, softer palm with the practiced ease of an eight-year habit.

The leather sofa groans as Yoongi sinks into the cushions right beside him, collapsing his weight sideways so his shoulder presses heavily against Jimin’s. Jimin squeezes the hand holding his, turning his head to study the sharp profile of his boyfriend’s face. The sheer pride in Jimin’s chest is a physical weight, warm and expansive.

"That was good," Jimin says softly, his eyes crinkling at the corners, radiating a quiet, unshakeable adoration. "You were incredible out there, Hyung."

Yoongi doesn't look over immediately. Instead, a slow, incredibly smug grin tugs at the corner of his lips. He tilts his head back against the leather cushion, casting a cheeky, side-eyed glance at Jimin, his eyes glinting with playful mischief.

"Didn't you know I was good?" Yoongi asks, his tone dripping with faux-arrogance, though the fondness in his eyes completely betrays the act.

Jimin lets out a soft, breathy laugh, tilting his head back to look up at the ceiling in mock exasperation. He deliberately turns his gaze away from Yoongi, looking across the room to where Sejin is trying, and failing, to hide a smirk behind his clipboard.

"This is why I can't compliment this guy in front of him," Jimin says, gesturing toward Yoongi with his free hand, his voice dripping with exaggerated theatricality. "You give him an inch, Sejin-nim, and he builds a whole monument to himself right there on the spot. His ego is already too big for this arena."

Yoongi’s grin softens, the playful arrogance melting away in an instant, replaced by something deeply grounded and fiercely tender. He turns his whole body on the couch, shifting his weight so he is fully facing Jimin. The grip on Jimin’s hand tightens, grounding them both in the quiet space they’ve carved out amidst the chaos of a global tour.

"I love you," Yoongi says.

The words are spoken without a shred of hesitation, delivered with a quiet, heavy sincerity that completely derails Jimin’s playful teasing. The casual banter evaporates, leaving behind the raw, emotional bedrock of their relationship. Yoongi says it simply, like stating a fundamental law of the universe, his dark eyes unwavering as they hold Jimin's gaze. Jimin’s breath hitches slightly, a soft, involuntary reaction to the sheer weight of Yoongi’s affection. The tips of his ears turn a faint pink, warming up beneath his blonde hair. A soft, incredibly vulnerable smile spreads across his face, all the teasing walls falling away in an instant.

"Telling me that gives me strength," Jimin confesses softly.

He leans his forehead forward for a brief second, pressing it against Yoongi’s damp shoulder, letting the familiarity of his partner's scent anchor him. Yoongi’s response is immediate and entirely devoid of personal space boundaries. With a low hum of affection, Yoongi glomps directly on top of him, abandoning all pretenses of dignity. He shifts his weight entirely, burying Jimin back into the deep leather cushions of the couch. Jimin lets out a soft, startled oof as Yoongi’s heavy frame pins him down, but his arms instinctively wrap around Yoongi’s waist to hold him close.

Yoongi doesn't care about the sweat, or the makeup, or the fact that Sejin is still technically standing three feet away. He leans down and begins pressing a rapid fire of soft, smacking kisses wherever he can find a patch of bare skin. He kisses the curve of Jimin’s jaw, the soft skin just beneath his ear, and the exposed column of his throat where his hoodie has slipped aside. Jimin wriggles beneath him, a bright, melodic laugh bubbling up from his chest. The sound is pure music, filling the sterile dressing room with genuine warmth.

"Hyung—wait, stop, it tickles," Jimin protests through his laughter, though his hands are firmly gripping the fabric of Yoongi’s shirt, pulling him closer rather than pushing him away.

With a quick, deft movement of his fingers, Jimin reaches up and pulls down the black fabric mask resting beneath his chin, tossing it onto the sofa cushion. As soon as his lips are free, he tilts his head up, catching Yoongi’s mouth mid-descent to kiss him back properly. The kiss is slow, deep, and grounded in a shared history that spans nearly a decade. It tastes faintly of salty sweat and throat lozenges, entirely unglamorous and utterly perfect. Yoongi melts into it, his frantic energy finally settling into a calm, steady rhythm.

When they break apart just an inch, Yoongi rests his forehead against Jimin's, his breath fanning across Jimin’s cheeks. His voice drops to a rough, private whisper, meant only for the space between them. "Jimin, I love you."

Jimin’s eyes flutter open, soft and dark with an emotion so profound it borders on reverence. He reaches up, his small fingers tangling gently in the damp strands of Yoongi’s dark hair, framing his face.

"I love you, too, Yoongi," Jimin replies, his voice steady, carrying the weight of all the years they’ve spent navigating the storm of their careers hand-in-hand.

They stay like that for a long, quiet moment, suspended in their own private bubble while Holly watches from the rug, his little tail giving a lazy, sympathetic thump against the floor. The silence is shattered by a loud, treacherous, and deeply unpromising sound. From the depths of Jimin’s oversized hoodie, his stomach lets out a ferocious, hollow growl that echoes clearly through the quiet dressing room.

The spell breaks instantly. Yoongi pulls back, his eyebrows pulling together in an immediate, stern line. The soft, affectionate boyfriend vanishes, replaced instantly by the deeply protective, hyper-vigilant partner. He gives Jimin a look of intense skepticism, his gaze dropping to Jimin's midsection before snapping back up to his eyes.

Smack. Yoongi delivers a very light, entirely harmless swat to Jimin’s thigh, the fabric of his sweatpants muffling the sound.

"You didn't eat," Yoongi states, his tone flat, a classic lecture settling into his voice. "Don't even try to lie to me, Park Jimin. You forgot to eat today, didn't you?"

Jimin offers a sheepish, guilty grin, pulling his shoulders up toward his ears in an attempt to look small and innocent. He had been so focused on monitoring Yoongi's soundcheck, checking the setlist, and managing his own anxiety on his partner's behalf that the concept of lunch had completely slipped his mind. Yoongi lets out a heavy, dramatic sigh, rolling off Jimin with an exaggerated shake of his head. He stands up from the couch, his joints popping slightly as he straightens his spine. He stretches his arms over his head, shaking out his legs, before turning back to face the couch. He extends a wide, pale hand down toward Jimin, his fingers waiting.

Jimin looks up at the offered hand, his heart doing that familiar, comfortable flutter it always does when Yoongi takes care of him. He reaches out, sliding his fingers into Yoongi’s palm, letting the older man pull him effortlessly up from the deep leather cushions. Yoongi hauls him up, stabilizing Jimin by the waist for a brief second until he's steady on his feet. A familiar, deeply affectionate glint returns to Yoongi’s eyes, a private joke passing between them like an old, well-worn blanket.

"Come, jjik-jjik," Yoongi says, his voice falling into a playful, cartoonish lilt, invoking the old Tom and Jerry routine they’d fallen into years ago. "I'll treat you to sushi. You’re practically wasting away."

Jimin lets out a dramatic, heavily put-upon sigh, though the radiant smile on his face completely ruins the effect. He steps into Yoongi’s side, leaning his weight against him as they begin to move toward the changing area to get Yoongi out of his stage clothes.

"Yes, Nyangi," Jimin fires back, using the complementary pet name with an affectionate roll of his eyes. "Because food is more important than sleep. Lead the way, my savior."
