Work Text:
Your new job was fun, you get to travel, you wouldn't need to deal with any of the action and, you could ogle your hot boss all day. Aaron Hotchner was, to you, the hottest in the field. Sure, there was Derek Morgan, sexy with a charm that is out of this world. There was also Spencer Reid, the nerdy, hot type that knew everything and made sure to always one up you but it was cute, in a sense. David Rossi was sweet in a "dad who can cook up a nice meal and always have a good melody on the ready" way but he was not your type. Aaron, however was sexy and mature, he knew how to handle a woman. The way he effortlessly tackles cases and looks hot doing so gives you the energy to go to work. He was mean and hotheaded but you knew just how soft Aaron Hotchner could get. You knew how he liked his back rubbed after a long day or how he liked to watch movies with Jack on his days off and cuddle on the couch. You loved the simplicity of existing with him, getting to be the one he comes home to after a case that was particularly harsh. You loved that when he saw you, his eyes lit up, no matter where you were. You adored being Mrs. Hotchner.
Today was the start of your new secretary position at FBI Headquarters in Quantico. You were working directly under Supervisory Special Agent Aaron Hotchner. You knew how lucky you were to be able to score a job working with your husband. Aaron had mentioned to Strauss that a secretary was technically in the budget and it could help with the overtime she's constantly nagging him about. It was not hard to convince her, anything to keep the overtime to a minimum.
You sat at your desk, which was just a short extension added to Aaron's, giving you just enough room to fill
out papers and set up a few figurines. The day was slow, the team was chatting in the bullpen while you watched from the office window. You can hear Morgan crack a joke and Penelope's loud laughter making you smile. You've heard so much about them and couldn't wait to work alongside some of the best brains in the FBI. You knew this team was going to be fun, it was exactly what you needed even if the work they do is hard to digest.
You usually enjoyed spending your days at home with Jack, helping him with homework and playing whatever games he thought up that day. Summer has arrived, however, and Jack was scheduled to go to camp for most of the day, leaving you to a quiet and empty home. It wasn't exactly driving you crazy but you needed to get out of the house. There were only so many rooms you could clean and cakes you could attempt to bake. Aaron was sweet enough to get you the job and you had to work hard to prove to Strauss they could keep you on the budget.
"Hey, you," a voice next to you and an arm on your back startles you. Aaron.
"Hi," you smile, never getting used to seeing him in his suit and red tie, that you had the pleasure of picking for him this morning.
"We're just about ready to start briefing, ready to meet the team?" You were nervous, truthfully. They seemed like a nice group but with groups come a sort of family dynamic that may be hard for you to penetrate through. You were Mrs. Hotchner, though, they did not know that. If they did, you assume they would automatically accept you into their dynamic. You were using your maiden name to keep your relationship on the low, the only exception Strauss gave you once you received your badge. It wasn't hard but seeing Aaron in his form fitted suit and styled hair made you want to kiss him in front of everyone. You still got to wear your ring, a large diamond that Aaron insisted he buy even if you were demanding for a smaller one. You got to show off you were married, the team didn't need to know to who.
Once everyone filed in and took their seats at the round table, Aaron started with introductions.
"Everyone, this is (y/n). She is my new secretary and will be accompanying us on our cases from this point forward. Please be kind, it's her first day," he addressed the table sternly then turned to face you as he called your name softly, "these are agents Jareau or JJ, Prentiss, Morgan, Rossi, Reid, and our technical analyst, Penelope Garcia." Greetings sounded from around the table as they were taking you in. You knew them all but since no one knew your status, you had to pretend to remember their names. You waved a small hello, feeling awkward under their gaze.
"Nice to meet you," Jennifer says kindly, giving you a short wave. You smile and respond, feeling happy they want to speak to you. Penelope shakes your hand in a sweet greeting and offers her seat to you. You take it, scooting the chair just a little closer to Aaron. She begins speaking about the case in New Mexico. Young girls go missing for years and turn up dead. Penelope enhances photos of the women on the screen and the team starts spewing ideas back and forth. You listen and take notes, something Aaron has praised you for in the past. Aaron dismisses the team with a quick "wheels up in 30" and everyone scatters to get their bags and essentials.
You follow Aaron to your shared office, smirking as he shuts the blinds and closes the door. He kisses you gently, holding your waist and pulling you close. You smile into the kiss, feeling like you're sneaking around.
"Alright lover boy, let's go before the team gets suspicious." He laughs, "who cares? I have Mrs. Hotchner right here. Would they blame me for taking a few minutes to admire you?" You giggle as Aaron delivers a swift slap to your ass, grabbing a handful through your skirt. You hit his shoulder, quickly grabbing your go bag and bolting out. He lets out a loud laugh and follows you through the doors to meet with the team. Each of their faces are sporting looks of confusion and amazement, hearing Hotch laugh so freely was something rare. They all share glances as Hotch returns to his usual stoic, stern self.
The plane ride is relatively short and you choose a seat next to Aaron. Prentiss and Morgan share a look as Hotch is showing you pictures of Jack his camp counselor sent him. You can't help but grin seeing Jack in his uniform holding up a drawing of you, him and his father, making Aaron smile. They have their suspicions on who you were and how you were able to get the job as Hotch's secretary.
In all the years of working with the BAU, Morgan has never seen the unit chief with a secretary, they usually handle the work themselves. He knows Hotch is usually the type to deal with the work himself, so for him to hire a pretty, young secretary, it made Morgan's gears turn. He pulls his phone from his pocket and sends a text to Penelope, informing her to dig into your background and anything she can find on you. Penelope responds with a question mark but gets to work nonetheless.
Landing in New Mexico, Aaron lays out the plan and assigns everyone a place to go. This is the part you hate, having to stay at the police station away from Aaron and his sexy FBI vest. You get to spend time with Jennifer, though, since she is pregnant and cannot be of much help in the field. You feel her eyes on you, trying to get a feel on you.
"How old are you, anyway?" Jennifer asks, not unkind just wanting to get to know more about you. "I'm 24! My birthday just passed." You smile, remembering the night you shared with Aaron and Jack, celebrating your birthday with cake made by Jack himself and gifts picked just for you. Your hand reaches to touch the necklace, a silver chain with the birthstones of you and Aaron. You cried when Aaron hooked it around your neck and said he'd always be with you.
It doesn't go unnoticed by Jennifer that your wrist is sporting a small, cursive A. She almost thinks Aaron has one similar but she never noted the letter. She'll have to speak to Morgan on the matter, she thinks. For now, she brings your focus back to the case. You bounce ideas off of one another and call Aaron once you notice something in the girls autopsies. They were all pregnant.
The case lasts a few days, each one leading you closer to the unsub. Aaron is frustrated, running his hand through his hair, ruffling the perfectly styled pieces. You can't help but stare, running your eyes over his figure, biting your lip to keep from telling him just how sexy he is. He meets your gaze a few times and you can tell he's trying to hold back a smile. Spencer looks between the two of you, eyebrows furrowed. He opens his mouth to speak, maybe to ask the obvious, but Morgan stops him with a hand on his shoulder and a shake of his head.
••••••
"That has got to be his wife," Morgan blurts once the team has landed and they're lazing around the bullpen. They were able to successfully catch the perpetrators and return the missing girls to their families.
"You think so? She's only 24," Jennifer responds, not judging but wanting to share the information she learned. "So? Hotch was definitely happier this week and she mysteriously gets a job as his secretary? When has the unit chief ever had a secretary?" Morgan says, trying to get his point across.
"Well, I did as you said my beautiful hunk of man," Penelope's voice cuts through, "and I looked into her. Now, there's not much, she went to school at NYU, got her degree fairly quickly but nothing suspect just her taking way too many classes. Her getting the job was all official, she had a nice full resume and Strauss approved so no sneaky business. She was working at a bakery but there's not much of an employment record after about four years ago, my guess is that's when she met Hotch. She had a few sealed files but nothing crime-y just degrees and other achievements she wanted to hide from me. Laugh out loud. I obviously unsealed them but I think they're only sealed because some have her last name as, drum roll please, Hotchner! You're welcome."
Morgan lets out an "ah-hah!" and jumps up from his seat. The team breaks out into hushed murmurs and giggles, learning that their new hire was their unit chiefs wife. They could tell from the sweet glances and soft touches you two shared when you assumed no one was looking. There were a few times in New Mexico that Rossi caught Aaron with his hand soothing your back, the photos being just too much for you. He watched him lean in and press a soft kiss to your ear. He let out a chuckle as he was the first to figure out who you were and walked off. He let you two have your moment.
"My man," Morgan sighs out with a laugh. Hotch was the last person he would have expected to date someone much younger than him, but when you know you know, Morgan thinks that's beautiful.
"Ugh! How lucky is she that she's getting to work with her man everyday and then gets to go home with him! She's going to travel around the nation with her husband, i'm severely jealous. And her ring is huge!" Prentiss speaks up. "Tell me about it!" Jennifer and Penelope exclaim at the same time. The girls giggle, jealous of your wonderful life with Aaron.
The chatter dies down as you walk through the bullpen. You smile at the team, noting their mischievous faces as they all wave back. Aaron is following closely behind you, eyes trained on the way your ass moves in your tight pencil skirt. Morgan belts out a laugh as he catches him, hitting Spencer on the shoulder to turn his attention to see. "That's definitely his wife," Rossi breathes out with a laugh. Aaron throws them a glare but his cheeks are red and he's trying to hide his smile. There's no denying how much he loves you. Truly how could Strauss expect you to hide your relationship from a team of profilers and the world's best hacker?
