Izuku awoke with a start, his eyes snapping open like firecrackers. Panic settled in his chest as he desperately tried to blink back the tears in his eyes. He could barely see, he needed all his senses right now but the heaviness of sleep still felt like it could swallow him whole despite the nightmare.
He rubbed at his eyes letting out a strangled breath. The greenette shifted on the bed preparing himself to wander over to the bathroom and stare at his reflection in the mirror until he could convince himself he was alive, until there was a stir beside him and suddenly he couldn't be more grateful that he woke up. He felt like he wouldn't until at the very last minute it was as if something tied a harness around his lungs and saved him from the deep dark seas of his own fucked up mind.
Well he couldn't leave the bed now. That would be an awful, stupid, unbearable plan that the mere thought of doing so shot a wave of panic through his chest.
So instead, Izuku crawled back under the comforter and settled against Katsuki's side, burying his head under the other boy's muscular arm. He reminded himself to breathe again, already feeling better as Katsuki's body heat practically seeped through his skin, wrapping around his bones like a vine, and settling at his core.
"Mhm Nerd shuttup stop mumbling," his boyfriend's irritated voice rough with sleep filled the room. Right, he forgot what a light sleeper his Kacchan was.
"Sorry Kacchan," Izuku whispered into the darkness, lifting his hand to rest against the other boy's heartbeat.
After a moment, suddenly he felt a shift as the body under him turned and rough hands cupped his cheeks. Ruby eyes studied his own and Izuku once again forgot how to breathe.
The blonde ran his thumb along the other boy's lash line, sweeping away the tears he hadn't realized began to fall.
"Bad dream?"
"Mm hm,"
"C'mere."
Izuku practically buried himself against Katsuki's chest as he felt strong arms wrap around his body. He nuzzled his neck letting out quiet mumbles of praise.
"Do you wanna talk about it or you wanna sleep?" Katsuki murmured softly against his hair.
"Nooo I don't wanna talk I'm sleepy..." Izuku mumbled attempting to bury himself in Katsuki's skin for real this time as he nuzzled his nose against his cheek and twisted his legs around the other's waist.
The blonde chuckled, planting a kiss on the tip of his boyfriend's nose. "Kay baby you're okay go to sleep."
"I don't wanna I wanna cuddle you more." The greenette practically whined holding Katsuki tighter.
"Zuku I'll cuddle you while you sleep, c'mon you're gonna be tired in the morning." The hero reasoned scratching Deku's scalp in a soothing motion. The boy whined again nuzzling Katsuki's palm with his head.
"Suki I'm scared... you're strong keep me safe." Izuku buries his face in the crook of the other boy's neck and could almost swear he heard a soft coo leave his boyfriend's lips although he would never admit it.
"You're strong too." Katsuki rasps out. Izuku's gaze flickers to the crimson eyes boring into his pupils.
"Yeah...but right now I don't wanna be." He confesses, voice barely above a whisper.
Without missing a beat, the blonde pulls him impossibly closer to his chest, peppering kisses all over his face.
"Noo Kacchan do the popcorn kiss thingy." Izuku cutely demands trying to pull Katsuki's face back to his.
"Aw my zuku baby wants more kisses, hm?" Katsuki teases inching closer the the boy's plush lips before taking a detour to his temple instead.
"Kacchannn noo kiss my lips." Izuku begs delirious with sleep. He honestly looked close to tears.
"Fine you big crybaby." Katsuki smirked before giving in and pressing his lips repeatedly against Izuku's earning a giggle from the other boy. "You're so fucking cute you know that?"
A faint blush crept upon the greenette's cheeks at the compliment. Instead of responding he opted for burying his face in Katsuki's neck once more.
"Mm you ready for bed my sleepy baby?" The blonde asked softly, kissing the shell of Izuku's ear.
"I'm tired but I don't wanna have another dream." Deku confessed quietly. Katsuki hummed in response.
"I know love, but you need sleep we have class tomorrow. And besides, I promise I'll be there when you wake up and if you have another nightmare I'll kiss everything better."
Izuku fought the urge to cry again just by Katsuki's soft demeanor alone. Instead he bit his lip and nodded. Katsuki gave him a squeeze and pressed a kiss to his temple. "Here, sweet boy I'll scratch your head."
Izuku let a small smile grace his lips as the sound of Kacchan's heartbeat lulled him to sleep.
He wishes he would dream about Katsuki so he wouldn't have to wait til morning to see him.
