Work Text:
At an unknown time in the future, Earth became almost uninhabitable for humans. Scientists worked hard to fix it, but it was too late. In order to save as many people as they can, scientists built a massive spaceship that could remain self-sustaining for many years. The ship couldn't hold everyone, so the smartest and the people who had the skills necessary for the future went on the ship. Only 2,400 of humanity's brightest will survive. In the beginning, it was hard. People from different cultures and backgrounds had to learn to come together and put any differences aside. It slowly got better, there were still definitely problems, but they could solve them more amicably. After 50 years of wandering aimlessly through space, scientists eventually located a planet that would sustain human life, the only problem was that it would take about 350 years to get there. They figured the journey would be worth it in the end, so they set a course for the planet.
After the long journey, the population increased to a little over 10,000. They expended as much as they could while in space. Many generations have passed since the first people stepped onto the ship, about 16 generations to be exact. The current elected leader of the spacecraft is a woman named Bridget. She is the descendant of the lead engineer who built the ship. She has two daughters with her late husband, Red and Pink. Red has been known to cause mischief on the ship on numerous occasions, as well as slack off on almost all of her responsibilities. Pink, on the other hand, is very sweet and loves to help out around the ship. Red is very protective of her little sister, as they have both reached the age when they are expected to find someone to be with for the rest of their lives. To ensure the population remained large and healthy, people were expected to find someone to be with for the rest of their lives when they turned 16.
Red was 17 and avoided it as much as she could, but she knew even her mother couldn't save her for much longer from the other leaders. The thing that was mostly saving her, though, was that the ship had a couple of months until its destination, which was planned in the first generation to be their new home. The leader knew about this plan, but was still unsure how to exactly go about it. In the end, they decided to send a group of people to scout out the land and report back to the Council. Red, seeing this as not only a way to escape the program but also to have the chance to finally have some freedom, volunteered to go.
The volunteers went through training, where they learned to use a Raygun, a scouter to scan their surroundings. And lastly, a special watch designed to not only communicate with the people back on the ship, but it also has a laser that could cut through metal, and can even lift really heavy objects with its anti-gravity.
As the day to go down to the planet came, all the volunteers were hugging their family and friends goodbye and being wished good luck. They took a pod down to the planet's surface. As they got closer, they could make out civilizations, there were people on this planet. No one took this into consideration, they only prepared for encountering animals. When they landed, people were already reporting back to the ship. Red looked around at how different everything was. She had never seen so many plants or so much green in her life. From books, she knew they were in a forest, but those had been gone long before the Spacecraft was even created.
Some people were already using nano-bots to build a base. Red decided to go explore the surrounding area. She wandered around the forest until she found a clearing leading out. In the distance, she could see what looked to be a castle with a massive wall around it. On the outside of the wall, there were farms scattered around. She could see people walking around, they looked just like everyone else. The only difference was how they dressed, it reminder her of the fantasy books she read. She got a message on her watch to meet back at the base to go over their plan. Red headed back to camp, where they came up with a plan for the next day.
The next morning, Red got up earlier than the others. She got tired of waiting around for them and decided to go off on her own. She tracked her way back to the clearing she went to yesterday. She studied her surroundings before spotting some clothes hanging on a wire. She stole a red and black outfit that was mostly her style. She went back to the clearing to change her clothes before heading to the castle gates. She walked past the guards without any problems. Inside the castle wall was a village. People went about their day doing chores and shopping at stalls. Further down was a massive open field surrounded by a fence, tons of people gathered around to watch what was going on.
Her curiosity winning, Red went over to see what was happening. She squeezed through the other onlookers and saw 2 people fighting with swords. Red couldn't see what they looked like cause they both had on full armor. The fight went on for a while, with it looking like there would be no clear winner. Until the shorter opponent caught the other one by surprise, disarming them and sending them to the ground. The crowd broke into cheers, the winner took off their helmet to reveal the most gorgeous girl Red has ever seen. Her hair was a vibrant blue of messy curls that fell over her shoulders. She offered a hand to her opponent, helping them up from the ground when their hands met. The taller one took off their helmet as well, to reveal a curly blonde-haired boy, and wrapped their arm around the blue-haired girl.
"There you have it, folks, the winner of today's match. My sister, and your princess, Chloe Charming. Come back tomorrow to see who wins next time." The boys announced to the audience.
The girl gave the crowd a bright smile, which made Red's knees feel a little weak, and a friendly wave. The Princess's eyes scanned the crowd before landing on the Red-haired girl. She tilted her head and looked like she was about to step closer, but some guards came over to gather their belongings and leading them away. Red knew it that moment, she wanted to get to know the princess more than anything, she could do some scouting another time.
