Chapter Text
At first it was darkness. He felt a small sense of lingering fear. That was odd, why was he scared? Was he dreaming? He wasn't sure. He felt hands on his wings, he had wings! He couldn't move them, he'd tried several times. What was going on?!
His wings were stretched out and gently preened by whoever this person was. If there was anything positive about this situation it was that atleast the hands were gentle. Parrot lost awareness again, not for the first time.
Parrot woke up with a start, where was he? He couldn't remember his name or where he was! Who has he? Where was he? Why was he here?
He took stock of his surroundings to try and calm down and it looked like he was in some kind of hospital like area. Was he a coma patient or something? He noticed two other beds, both empty. Why was there extra beds? Actually that's a stupid question, if he were in a hospital obviously there would be other beds. Was he in some kind of accident? Is that why he was here? He moved his wings as he checked over his limbs, he could move them now. Nothing seemed broken or paralyzed any longer which was a relief.
He had to answer the question of where he was now. Parrot swung his legs over the side of the bed, the movement clumsy for being asleep so long. As he puts weight on his feet he almost immediately fell. He flared out his wings to hopefully slow his fall but ended up only hitting one on the edge of the bed. He yelped at the unexpected pain and gingerly moved his wing to look at it. The feathers were slightly mussed up from hitting it but other than that it was undamaged. Good.
He pulled himself up and leaned against the wall for support as he looked at the room. Now that he was at a better angle he could tell that this wasn't a coma room or any hospital. Maybe he was a criminal. A chill ran down his spine at the thought and he instinctively ran a hand over his feathers, fixing them. "Think logically" he silently reminded himself. If he were some kind of prisoner then there would logically be some guards or restraints. He has seen nothing of the sort so far.
He looked around the room again and notice a whiteboard with some tallies and writing on it. He walked over to it, still holding onto the wall. There was nothing to depict what the tallies actually meant. He assumed it was just days or weeks.
It felt too quiet in the room, like there should've been more life. Maybe the two other beds were for other people. He looked over at the two empty beds and saw nothing to indicate if anyone belonged to them. This was getting frustrating. He couldn't figure out where he was if there was no real information he could find. He just had to focus, yeah that's it!
He spotted a bag next to the bed he'd woken up in and recognized it, he used to carry that bag everyday before this. Why could he remember that and not his name? Pushing that thought aside he knelt beside the bag and opened it. The first thing he saw was his spyglass, his expression softened as he picked it up. Of all things he had brought with him of course he would bring this. It was his prized spyglass after all. He turned it carefully, as if afraid he'd break it. He gently touched the name engraved; Parrotx2. Was that his name? It would make sense as he did resemble such. He silently prayed to the void that it was (why was he praying to such a thing?) and started looking at the rest of the stuff in his bag. There were some small trinkets, things he'd gathered from adventures and collected over the years from friends. The thought made him smile, he had friends.
Gathering his things back into his bag, he decided to explore the rest of the area. He hooks the strap of his bag over his shoulder the way he used to and turns the handle for what he hopes will lead him to a living area or something. Parrot is greatly disappointed as he's met with what looks more like a lab. His disappointment fades as he's overtaken by curiosity instead. In other scenario this would be almost fascinating. If he were in a hospital like he thought it wouldn't make sense for there to be a lab next door. Was he an experiment? Oh god that was a stupid question. Obviously he wasn't an experiment, he knew the wings were natural not science given. So why was there a lab?
He starts looking through the room, still trying to get a hint of where he was. He looks over a paper that says something about "Tau Ceti" and ignores it, assuming it's not very important. His wing twitched behind him, the sharp pain that shoots through it reminding him that it was likely bruised. He rubbed the spot and continued searching.
While searching he picks up several items and puts them back down. Nothing seems to jog his memory properly.
Maybe he was an amnesiac.
Parrot freezes as a sense of dread washes over him. His feathers fluff up, looking almost like a chick's as he looks around for the source of his dread. He goes completely still as he hears footsteps. Someone was approaching.
