Work Text:

You were one of the angels who fell from Heaven when Metatron cast you all out, you were known for being the clumsy, clueless angel. With no wings, you'd been on Earth for a few weeks and already taken over a small bookshop in Kansas. With the challenge of no Heaven, you suddenly became overwhelmed and vulnerable to predators.

Metatron, Metatron...That bastard had cast the angels out of Heaven, your wings were burnt off and you were left to fend for yourself in a place called...Kansas? It was mostly peaceful, apart from the few humans you'd killed in self defense and cars you'd crashed in attempt to flee a road in the middle of nowhere. Not to mention the body you're currently using as a vessel, she's got beautiful auburn curls to her shoulder and dressed in a red flannel with denim flare jeans. You hoped her body would hold your angel grace, she's got good style. Anyway, that was two weeks ago. Unlike your brothers and sisters, you didn't need redemption- or at least it wasn't your top concerns. Right now, your attention was on loving a small bookshop in the town of Shawnee. Despite the shops inner chaos, it was cosy and warm, just like you. You had a strong soldier mentality, but had little capacity for emotion-in Heaven you were loved for your clumsy personality, almost as if God created you with flaws as such to dumb you down. Oh well, you made do.

It was a Tuesday, probably, early in the morning. You watched the sun rise from the darkness and the clouds parted leaving a soft glow casted on the bookshop. As angels didn't need to sleep you simply rose from your chair, cup of tea in hand and begun working in your shop. You had about an hour before you opened it up, you started tasks with a stock take, then cleaning shelves to adding price labels and checking product conditions. It took a while to learn technology, you weren't completely with it so you sticked to old school stuff; a till, a notepad and a computer to run the shop. The computer wasn't very advanced but it did the job- you did avoid it like it was Lucifer, only using it when necessary. The small ping noise it made when a notification popped up occassionaly scared you, flinching slightly. Emails allowed you to connect with people around the world, not that you need to, but humans fascinated you, the way they cheered when excited, danced to music when they were happy, shed tears when they were sad and kissed other humans when they felt something called love. You hadn't learnt about tax or anything legal- it didn't concern you and to be honest you didn't care for it.

Customers eventually came in, not many, about five per hour. Some appeared to be related to each other, family?- They had similar appearances, mannerisms and dialogue. You found interacting with the customers to be thrilling, having never experienced or heard some of the topics they talked about rendered you curious and excited. What is a Biggersons? You pondered as you carried a box of books over to the table. Other conversations involved strange sightings such as objects falling from the sky, 'Did you see it fall from the sky?' 'Yeah, what was it?' . Hushed whispers filled the room, they were sonified by your angel hearing skills anyway,

"Oh that was me..." Your dumbass blurted out, not thinking once. You soon quicly saw the uneasiness and confusion in the cutomer's gaze.

"Uhm I farted sorry, that-it was me I farted." Embarrasing much?

Following from your slip up, you decided to stay away from the humans for a while, hiding near the tills tending to a pile of books which had been donated to you from an old lady claiming she was 'too old' for the books. You read their titles, 'how to attract what you want', 'your first time: what to expect', the titles grew more bold, but you didn't understand what any of Margret's books could be about-what was she getting too old for?-. The shop was mostly empty now, a bird perched on the wooden balcony outside, it then fluttered off in a hurry. The sound of the door bell echoed in the room, a gentleman clad in a dashing black fitted suit entered, footsteps filled the shop as polished shoes clacked on the weak floorboards (they often threatened to collapse, you just hoped they wouldn't one day).

A tie with intricate details, like engravings snaked around his neck and draped over his front, just short of a black leather belt. His unbuttoned jacket enveloped his short frame. The man defintely piquired your attention, but the first thing you noticed about him-his demonic energy, it wasn't something you'd often sensed, it was powerful, dark and destructuve. You'd seen it before, years ago but somehow seeing it after Heaven fell was slightly terrifying. You watched the demon stroll in, he'd sensed your angelic presence but made no effort to speak, just walked into the shop as if there wasn't enough power to blow the entire building to ashes in a split second. Your breath hitched, something close to anticipation and panic flooded your mind. For a second you forgot you were in a vessel, now dressed in baggy jeans, a black tank top and military grade boots you knicked off a dead corpse- and not your true form, which was about the size of two Eiffel towers. You buried your self back in the books in the spinning chair (something as simple as a chair that spinned gave you happiness) and hid behind a wall of books, which you began sifting through.

Without warning, the door to the shop slammed shut and the lock clicked with superntual force. The footsteps stalked futher into the shop, just short of where you hid. The man stood behind your book wall, waiting. Nooo do I have to deal with a demon right now?? He huffed impatiently, arm resting on the table before sweeping one of the piles, knocking over the books splayed over the table. Oh no you did not "I'd like to buy this book please, darling." A shit-eating grin spread on his face, ear to ear, showing just enough teeth to decide you hated this demon. You looked down at the book, 'dieting for beginners'. Something about the man told you he did not care about dieting. You cautiously stepped towards the till, the whole thing seemed stupid, why was a demon buying a book...

"That'll be four dollars please."

A five dollar bill was stretched towasrds you in curled fingers, you took it and shakily gave a dollar back.

"Do you want a recipt?"

That same low British drawl emitted from his mouth. "No... thank you."

"Good, because I don't know how to do one."

"Then why did you offer??"

"I don't know, it just felt right to ask."

He looked you over for a second, gaze focused on your clueless, dumb expression before deciding to ignore that entire conversation.

"So, an angel then?"
