Chapter Text

Do you need glasses?”

His squinted eyes widened once again as he turned to face you. Immediately the cocky smile he wore for every occasion graced his mouth again, stretching the scarred skin around his mouth. He scoffed. “Pfft. No.” He replied bluntly.

“You were squinting at the board just now.” You looked between his spot on the bed and the whiteboard.

“That's because your handwriting is shit.” Touya shrugged, leaning back to the wall the length of his chains was attached to.

“If it is then you wouldn't need to squint in order to see it.”

He rolled his eyes, looking to the clock in the corner of the overwhelmingly white room instead of you.

“I'll look into having you booked into an optometrist.” You pulled out your notebook and made a note for yourself. Or at least you got halfway through making a note before you heard laughter from the opposite side of the room. It was now your turn to roll your eyes, you didn't expect him to be so…shit eating? Shit eating grin, shit eating tone of voice. That sounded about right.

It was probably just a ploy to get under your skin, you were trained to know that but it didn't stop it from being fucking annoying. From what you'd seen of him on TV as well, he was so moody. Yeah he'd give the odd quip or so when he was winning but never this dickhead-ish.

“I'm like- what, one of the most prolific villains in Musutafu? In all of Japan if I’m feeding my ego. And your main priority in my rehabilitation is my eyesight?” He said it between laughs, as if this was the most amusing situation he'd ever been in.

You sighed. “You can't be rehabilitated if you can't see the material I'm trying to rehabilitate you with.”

“Great. No need for the appointment then.”

“It's happening whether you like it or not.” You turned back to your notebook, finishing off your bullet point. “Well.” You looked back up to him, putting your own behind your ear. “I don't see any point in continuing today's session seeing as you couldn't see anything.”

He smirked at you with half lidded eyes. “Such a shame.” He commented sarcastically, giving you a half assed salute as you began to gather your things.

You huffed, shoving all the material you'd brought back into your back. “I'll see you next week, Touya.”

Touya cringed as you said his name. One of the conditions you'd been given was to only refer to him with his actual legal name instead of ‘Dabi’. Now you did think that hearing the name he was referred to as a kid may do something to reawaken his empathy but at the same time you could see something inside of him tempted to erupt each time you said it. Therefore you stuck to naming him at the ends of your sessions so if he decided to lunge at you, you could be let out swiftly.

He simply waved in response to you, his gaze averted from you once again.

You would break him down, you were determined to. But it was certainly going to take immeasurable time and patience. You gave him one last look before you left through the bars of his cell.

~~~~~~~
“You're here early.” Touya folded his arms as he spoke to you through the bars. “You can't have wanted to come back before our next session.” Once again, he struggled to make direct eye contact with you, looking all about his cell. “So why are you here?”
“Remember I said I booked you an appointment with the optometrist?” You readjusted your hold on your bag. Beside you there were the two usual guards that escorted you to Touya’s cell and the commissioner optometrist. It was a pain finding one that would actually, willingly take a look at the former villain. And even then, it took a hefty salary increase and the promise he'd be restrained everywhere but his eyes.
“Oh you're back on that bullshit?” He opened his mouth to continue his quipping when the optometrist pushed you out of the way to take your face in front of the bars, however he stood a great deal further away from them than you did.
“Dabi…” his voice was shaky, despite what you'd said about not letting him see your emotions on your sleeve. Because then he knew you were weak. You also caught onto the fact he called Touya by his villain name, once again something you'd warned against. “I am Doctor Watanabe, I will be in charge of your examination today.”
Touya took one look at the Doctor and began hysterically laughing, the outburst caused Doctor Watanabe to jolt backwards, knocking into you.
Once Touya had finally stopped, moved closer to the bars, causing the guards to reach for their guns. “Where the hell didja find this asshole? Did you really get so few volunteers to see me that this guy was the best you got?”
You narrowed your eyes at Touya from behind the Doctor, only earning an amused look from him. You moved the Doctor aside and approached Touya face-to-face again. “You're gonna have to be restrained for the examination, but I'm sure you expected that.”
“More than I usually am? What a difference that’s gonna make.”
You turned to the guards and gave them a nod to signal for them to head in and get it over and done with. As they got to throwing Touya to the floor Doctor Watanabe turned to you, eyes watered with terror.
“He's not gonna be able to burn me, is he?”
You shook your head. “He's high on quirk suppressants, dosed twice a day and those chains around his wrists and ankles are quirk suppressing too.” You then turned and pointed to the struggle undoing in the cell. “And that's a mouth guard they’re putting on him to stop the possibility of him spurting fire from his mouth.”
The Doctor watched in stunned horror, it was then you began to wonder if your decencitisation to the stark reality of the situation was to a healthy degree or not. You knew the atrocities Touya ‘Dabi’ Todoroki had committed and yet you conversed with him quite like you would a coworker. It was almost morbid to think about.
“I assure you everything is quite safe, Doctor Watanabe.” You put a hand onto the Doctor’s shoulder to keep his confidence as high as it could be. You received a hesitant nod before the guards dragged Touya out. His cerulean eyes were filled with a tired anger, completely directed at you. He was clearly pissed but also in the know that there wasn't really anything he could do to get his dignity back. You simply watched with indifference as he was practically dragged off to an examination room.
Part of you wanted to passive aggressively wave at him, but one) that wasn't professional and two) he was too busy struggling against the guards to turn around and see you being passive aggressive in the first place.
~~~~~~
You leant against the wall as the four of them came back, Touya having his head forced down by one guard and the Doctor looked more than traumatised.

“So how are the results?” You were addressing the Doctor, but the lilt in your tone made Touya look up at you and let a low growl be produced through the mouth guard. You did observe that you were greatly satisfied seeing him get roughed a little, although your professionalism could never admit to that.

When the Doctor only greeted you with a distant gaze and open mouth you addressed him again. “Doctor?”

“He kicked me in the crotch…” he responded in a meek voice.

It took all of your self control to bite your lip and not explode in laughter at that very moment. “Oh..?” You managed to squeak out in a firm enough tone to not draw attention to the slight quirk of your mouth.

“I had him look into the air puff tonometer and as soon as the air reached his eye he jolted his leg up and-” Doctor Watanabe shivered before he finished his sentence, giving you a clear enough picture of the event that transpired.

“That…sounds painful…” you commented. “But how are his eye results?” You asked, trying to desperately change the topic.

“Ah…yes…” the Doctor looked at his report card. “He is going to need a prescription of -2.35. I can't send you a few frame samples to find one that suits his face shape…and that he can't burn through and we can have you a pair within the next 2 weeks.”

You nodded along. “Alright, thank you Doctor. I really appreciate your time here.” You went to shake the Doctor's hand and he hesitantly obliged.

“You're welcome…” he nodded awkwardly before scurrying to the exit of the building.

The guards then came out of the cell, leaving a disgruntled Touya back on his bed. They gave you a nod before walking past you.

Looking into the cell you even felt intimidated by his gaze. You just chose to follow the pattern of the last three people you'd interacted with and give him a nod before scurrying away. He'd be mad at you next session, guaranteed. But that was a next session you problem.
