you're late.
you were late when you woke up to your alarm screeching an hour ago. and you're late now.
there's a complaint, everytime you try to get up. rhett's "baby," as he tries to curl closer. like he can get any closer behind you with his face pressed to your back.
wasn't until he started tracing relaxed muscle, down your back and up your shoulder, through your shirt you realized he'd been awake about as long as you have. you're a big dude. he's always liked that about you. how broad you are, how it's impossible to hide it even when you're curled on your side.
so, you suppose there's not much to be done about it. just waited until you got antsy to move.
rhett hums when you do. it's supposed to be somewhere between protest and a groan. it fails at both.
"i have to get up"
he mumbles something you don't catch.
"baby"
no response.
you flick the hand he has shoved under you.
"ow." it's exaggerated. if it hurt so damn bad, he'd of moved his hand.
"don't pretend to be asleep."
"wasn't pretending."
you flick his hand again.
"ow- stop doing that."
"let me get up."
"i'm not stopping you."
you curl your middle finger against your thumb and press them to his hand. a warning.
he tries again. "why do you wanna?"
"i have shit to do." you have to go to work. but you have half a mind to just call out at this point.
"shit can wait."
you take a frustrated breath, then leave it at that.
shit will just have to wait. and maybe you'll try to start your day in another 20 minutes.
maybe you won't.
