Chapter Text
The sky was grey and dull, a chill breeze in the air, and a light drizzle of rain making the scene seem like the perfect break up angsty moment. Students from Yuuei High were playing outside enjoying their nutritional break, with some students playing basketball within the black wire fenced court in the rain. Others just walked around the campus with their friends or found something to enjoy at the monkey bar park.
A scrawny boy with green wavy hair and sun kissed skin was standing right next to the fenced court alone, his name was Izuku Midoriya. His friends had ditched him, telling him that they had to grab something from inside and left him outside promising to be outside quickly.
“NERD, WATCH OUT!!!” A deep voice called out to Izuku.
The boy looked up in confusion and flinched when the basketball smacked his head right in the center of his green wavy locks with a loud thud. His hands rushed up to rub his head as his green doe-like eyes darted around the field to spot where this ball could have possibly spawned from, and his eyes met a tall guy on the other side of the fence with dull blond hair and eyes whose red color could easily rival rubies. The pale skin and ghetto style instantly registered in his head as Katsuki Bakugou, their past slightly flickering in his mind.
“Hey! What was that for? Look where you're throwing. Hmph,” Midoriya yells, since Katsuki had no self awareness apparently.
Katsuki’s red eyes boredly graze over Izuku, as he casually shrugs in response. That guy was playing like it was his first time on the court, unlike how he was the most famous basketball player on their school team.
“Pass the ball.”
Izuku stuck his tongue out while shaking his head, and shouted, “NO! Apologize first, did no one ever teach you manners before?”
Katsuki rolled his eyes in annoyance and walked out of the basketball court to grab the ball himself. The attitude was astonishing to Izuku, who did this man think he was? The Nike Jordan’s that he was wearing patted on the ground with every step he took.
Izuku got a better glimpse of his face that was unobstructed by black wires, and saw the scowl that painted Katsuki’s face like a crown. Wow. Okay. Drama queen alert. After walking across to him, Katsuki stopped directly in front of Izuku, with his rose dusted hands reaching out to grab the ball.
“I’ll just take this,” he murmured.
Izuku inhaled deeply and started to run away. Well, he was always one for dramatics, and the rain made everything feel even worse. Getting the ball back had to be earned, Izuku decided.
“Wha- HEY, GET BACK HERE THIS INSTANT,” Katsuki screeched while sprinting after him.
Running was something that Izuku took pride in, so running on the wet grass didn’t slow him down today from getting to the other side of the school with Katsuki chasing after him. It was a sight to see, Izuku grinning and Katsuki chasing him with disdain but a light grin playing on his lips.
“Fine, sooooorry. Now give it back, Deku.”
Suddenly, they both stopped running, and Izuku stared at Katsuki, tossing the now wet ball at him which he catched and ran back with. He was being foolish again. They could never talk and hang out like they used to before, way back to their childhood. Hanging out with Ochako automatically brought Katsuki there too, since the two were a package deal as siblings.
All his memories felt like a distant desperate kiss trying to remind him of what they had been. What they could still be. A high pitched voice interrupted him from his day dreaming if he and Katsuki ever became friends, Ochako, Iida, and Shoto FINALLY came outside, and they were walking his way.
Izuku shortened the distance by walking forward to greet his friends, and they skeptically questioned him on what he was doing there. Ochako’s honey colored eyes pinned him down in concern, which he truly appreciated but didn’t feel like embarrassing himself at the moment.
“I saw Katsuki walking away from you, did something happen? I’ll talk to dad about him if he’s acting up again if you need, you're not alone okay?” Uraraka cooed in a sweet and caring voice.
Izuku grinned at all the concern and worry his friends showed for him as he saw Shoto and Iida arguing about how to go beat him up together. Ochako was Katsuki’s twin sister, so she had leverage over him which was pretty nice to be assured with. She ended up completely different from her brother.
“Guys don’t worry, thank you for offering but he didn’t do anything, he isn’t that bad anymore. Why was it taking so long to grab what you needed?” Izuku questioned in return.
They walked back to the basketball court while chatting and went back to school to go to their next class early and just chillax. It was all enough for Izuku. Asking for any more would just be greedy. The dream he had a year ago flashed in his mind as he immediately pushed it back in by distracting himself with something else. Everything was normal, very normal. Yeah.
The bell rang, and Katsuki entered class with his friends. His friends include Kirishima, Denki, Mina, Jirou, and his girlfriend. The ones who were waiting on the basketball before. They look in his direction and start laughing while still looking at him and talking. Izuku wishes he could just disappear already. What he did today was stupid, and he should have expected for there to be natural consequences like everything else in life does. But that doesn’t mean he finds it fun or thought them out beforehand.
A crumpled up paper ends up on his desk, and Shoto looks at it in curiosity. The only close friend that he shares this class with, Todoroki Shoto. He was quite a looker, he wasn't gonna lie. Many girls go crazy over his unique looks such as his heterochromia eyes, and his multicolored hair, though he was just a good looking man in general.
Izuku was glad that Shoto wouldn’t be that invasive with whatever this note was. He didn’t want to get involved in any more drama at the moment, thank you VERY much. Pale hands with trimmed nails and freckles all around nervously gripped the paper, and hid it underneath the desk on his lap.
“KATSUKI IS TAKEN/ DONT YOU DARE TRY TO TAKE HIM FROM HIS GIRL.”
Well… that was quite the note. Katsuki… had a girlfriend? Since when? The note shook as his hands trembled, how could they possibly know that he liked Katsuki? He didn’t think it was that obvious. Shoto looked at the paper and made eye contact with Mina across the room, giving a mean look their way.
“Don’t worry Izuku. This is literally bullying. I’m gonna go talk to them for you,” Shoto reassured him in a monotone voice.
Izuku panicked, and whisper told him off. At that moment, Mina and Denki walked over and pushed over Izuku’s notes from his desk like the classic bullies from those Disney movies. Woah. Who do they think they even are, showing so much sass.
“Oops, sorry! Didn’t mean to! Welp. Did you steal these things the same way you're trying to steal someone’s man? Stop being a pick me. It's pathetic,” Mina meanly cackled while Kaminari sort of just stood there awkwardly, obviously only there at his dear friend’s insistence.
But at that moment, he looked up and death stared at Izuku like he just killed his dog in front of him. How strange. They weren’t living in a Disney show so they didn’t need to act like complete jerks.
Mina lifted her hand and harshly directed it at Izuku.
“Don’t be a homewrecker you faggot.”
