Lucas and his boyfriend both turned bright red when the door suddenly opened and someone stepped inside.
They had been in the middle of a heated make-out session when Luke’s dad walked in. He stood, frozen in the doorway, staring at them with wide eyes.
Nick opened and closed his mouth a few times before he actually managed to speak. “Did I come at a bad time..?“
Oliver and Lucas quickly clambered out of the position they’d been in-where Luke was sitting in Oliver’s lap-and quickly rushed out the door with a few quick “sorry”s tumbling from his lips.
Lucas flatted his hair, staring awkwardly at the floor with a very flustered expression.
His dad smirked and leaned against the doorframe, one eyebrow raised. “Is there something you’d like to tell me, kiddo?“
Lucas let out a few nervous chuckles. “Not particularly…“ he muttered. “Do I have to?“
Nick’s smile softened and he walked over and sat down next to Luke on his bed. “No,” he admitted, rubbing gentle circles on his back. “Though, I am a little curious; how long have you two been going out?”
Lucas wrung his hands, glancing anxiously at the door, which was now closed. “Can we… talk about it somewhere else, Dad?“
He was a little confused by the request, but he wanted to make Luke feel a little more comfortable.
Nick smiled again. “Of course,“ he stood up and pulled his car keys out of his pocket. “C’mon. Let’s go for a drive.“
“The quarry?“ Lucas asked when they parked on the side of the road at the edge of the woods.
Nick turned off the car and unbuckled his seatbelt. “Yup. Thought maybe some stargazing stars might help you feel a little better.“
Lucas smiled a little and stepped out of the car.
The short hike to the quarry was pretty quiet, and Nick could tell that Luke was still pretty anxious, though he had calmed down a bit.
When they arrived Nick sat on the ground and took a deep breath of the fresh, pine-scented air, and patted the empty space next to him.
Luke sat down and made brief eye contact before looking away again. “A little over a month,“ he said quietly. “We’ve been going out that long.“
Nick smiled warmly and wrapped an arm around Lucas’ shoulders. “Thanks for being honest with me, Lucas. But… may I ask why you didn’t tell me before?“ he asked gently. “I’m not upset, sweetheart, just wondering.“
Lucas leaned into his side, looking down at his intertwined fingers. “It’s not that I was afraid to tell you or anything, Maria already knows too, it’s just…“ he took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. “I’m not ready for Mom to know. That I like… boys, I mean. I was pretty sure you’d take it well, but she seems to be a little less… progressive with things like this.”
Nick frowned at let out a soft sigh. “If I’m being totally honest, I don’t think she is too. You don’t have to tell her yet, but if or when you do, I’ll be there to back you up,“ he smiled a little and gave Luke’s shoulder a soft squeeze. “Okay?“
Lucas smiled a bit and nodded. “Okay,“ he gave Nick a tight hug, making him laugh a little. “Thank you.“
Nick pressed a soft kiss to Luke’s forehead before pulling away. “No problem, kiddo.“ He pulled his phone out of one of his pockets and gave Luke a grin. “How about we take a picture?” he cleared his throat and said in an English accent, ”this will mark the day my son came out to me as..?“
Luke snorted. “Bisexual.“
“Bisexual!“ he declared triumphantly, pulling Lucas in closer to get a good shot.
“Smile~!“
Nick snapped the photo and sent it to Luke’s phone.
Lucas smiled again and hugged him. “Thanks, Dad. Love you.“
Nick gave him a tight squeeze. “I love you too, Lucas.“
