Work Text:

A slow breath.

Inhale, exhale.

Like she’d been taught. In through her nose, out through her mouth.

In and out.

The warning lights and alarms were flashing in her face, red light plaguing every surface but still.

She breathed.

Blaster fire. Close, too close. She’d been taught to tell proximity by sound, but it didn't help that she lost her hearing in her right ear a while ago.

Ivy would kill her if she found out.

The door shuddered. The troopers were banging on it, the clang of their armour too loud, even in the clamor of alarms and fire.

She breathed again.

Her arm stung. Blood pooled at the floor, dripping from her arm. She looked at the wound, but didn't wrap it, even though she knew what way to, and exactly how tight.

The door banged again.

Once, then twice. She lost track at the fifth.

It broke.

Sound pooled in, as the blasters closed in around her. She didn't look. She wouldn't.

She could feel the muzzle of a gun at her forehead, and she twitched a finger, uncrossing her legs to stand up.

She felt the soldier cower slightly, even at her height of a mere 5’4.

The soldier spoke.

“Where is the accomplice?”

She breathed. She listened.

It wouldn't ever be apparent to the untrained, but you could hear it. A small, faint breathing from the corner. It struck fear into her heart knowing the proximity of her love to these beasts, but she swallowed it.

“Gone.” she replied. “Off world, they were never on the ship.”

The soldier’s annoyance was deeply rooted in the room, and as he, frustratedly, lowered the blaster, she struck.

Once to the left, and once to the right, just like Ivy taught her.

Leaving him reeling, she grabbed her blaster from her back pocket and shot him point blank between the eyes.

Only then did she open hers. The room was small. The body lay across the floor, a boot jumbled on top of her foot.

She shoved it off.

Willow glanced towards the doorway, where boot marks were visible and the clamor of steel on steel echoed through the halls. They shouldn't have refilled here, on this planet. It was known to house these beasts. But of course, he would never let his precious starship go without maintenance.

Not that Willow particularly minded.

She stomped on the ground twice, and a familiar figure emerged from the vents. Blue eyes, pale skin, brown hair with a cyan streak.

Her love. Wanted for fraud and thievery, among other things, on every planet. Every one.

The soldiers wouldn't bother with Willow, but if they found Dizzy, it would mean arrest. Death, probably.

Dizzy glanced at the doorway, and she shut what was left of the door.

“Do we have full fuel tanks?” Willow asked. Dizzy winced.

“Half full. Dizzymart didn't provide as much, said I didn't do my daily tasks of feeding the pet rock. Like I ever do that.”

She sighed. Dizzy shrugged.

Thundering boots. Blaster fire.

She whipped her head around just in time to shoot a soldier, his arm still held firm on the trigger, aimed at Dizzy.

Willow shuddered.

“We have to go. Sit down,” she spat. Dizzy sat, flicking the switch to push the engines to hyper.

Willow sat, and pushed the gear stick all the way up

.

She glanced at Dizzy, then hit the hyperspace button.
