Chapter Text

What should’ve started a normal day, ended up being chaos. Zarroë was being themself and, in full Zarroë fashion, accidentally turned the Singlethereals into humans. Yes, only the Singlethereals were affected. In the morning, they woke up like usual, but didn’t… feel like they normally would.

~~

Glazz awoke feeling like somemon decided to cut her bottom crystal into two. It was painful, and weird. She felt very hot under the covers, which she usually layers since crystals cool down quicker in cooler environments. Glazz blinked away the sleepiness and reach to pull the covers off, only to yell in shock when she saw that her hand didn’t look like it normally did—she had five fingers, and it was a dark, almost chocolate brown color. In fact, her arm was a similar color.

Glazz pulled off the covers and saw that she had two legs where her crystal should’ve been and she screamed again.

~~

Wyska didn’t think anything was abnormal, even as her body felt weird and hurt a little. They simply got up and got ready (how does she not notice?). She didn’t bother to wipe her eyes from the crust and sleep, so maybe that’s why they didn’t think otherwise.

Until she saw themselves in the mirror and saw her new look.

“Wow, how’d I get that beanie? Why do I have legs, and look weird?”

Wyska admired their appearance for a few moments before pausing to think… why did she even turn into a human? And from there, the questions kept rolling.

~~

That day, Myndi’s room, which is mechanized to help them before getting into their mechanical limbs, didn’t do its job, so Reebro woke up late. When he woke up, they realized that they had a body. Though it wasn’t really functional, since he soon realized that they couldn’t actually move their legs. They could move their arms, however, so he used his arms to prop himself up on the bed.

Wondering why the room didn’t do its job, Myndi tried calling either Glazz or Deemy (which are his neighbors) for help. This wasn’t Myndi’s idea of a good morning…

~~

Vespah tried to stay positive—they thought the new look was nice—but Glazz was sort of causing them to feel anxious. She was scratching her arms and muttering, “This isn’t right..” and they were having trouble calming her down.

They tried to pry Glazz’s hands off of her arms so that she didn’t hurt herself, but she was strong. Vespah ended up hugging her really tightly, hoping that she would calm down soon.

~~

Deemy awoke, noticing the changes but not really minding them. He took his time to admire his look, tugging his hair a little and fidgeted with his clothes and the little piece of fabric that hung off his pants. He thought that it was an interesting change.

Deemy then heard Myndi yell something, so he left his room and walked over to theirs.

“What’s up?” He asked, opening the door to their room without knocking. He saw them sitting on their bed with a confused expression.

“Oh, you too?” Myndi asked, seeing him in the doorway. “I just need help getting up. My room just… stopped working, for some reason. And I can’t move my legs too easily, probably from my previous biology.”

“I see. Give me a minute, I’ll try to find your mech legs.” Deemy entered the room and started searching for the legs, and oddly enough, found them, but they were built in a way that would be suited for humans. He sighed deeply and realized what was going on. “It was Zarroë, wasn’t it?”
“Most likely.”

The Singlethereals were already exhausted so early in the morning from their dilemmas, and they went outside to try and clear their heads. Except for Glazz, since she was forced to go outside by Vespah. Zarroë’s hand popped in from the sky, and then, they began talking.

“So, you five. I’m sure you noticed the changes you went through overnight.” Zarroë said, oddly calm.

“You think?! OBVIOUSLY, WE DID!!-” Glazz yelled, enraged and looking like she was ready to fight and cry. She even had her fists up, but was held back by Vespah and Deemy. She couldn’t do much anyway.

“Calm down, Single-bunch. This was the result of a… failed experiment. I accidentally turned you into humans.”

“What type of experiment?” Myndi asked, tapping their chin thoughtfully, “These are some… serious consequences.”

Wyllow fidgeted with her hands as Zarroë thought about what to say, as to not trigger anyone (especially Glazz).

“I cannot specify, but, I did come up with some human names for you.”

Glazz groaned in distress, and the rest of them looked really, really unamused. This wasn’t surprising, but they still weren’t entirely happy with the outcomes.

“Don’t tell me you experimented on us,” Deemy said, rolling his eyes and sighing, smiling/smirking a little bit. His expressions are a bit opposite to how he feels.

“Don’t worry about it, I might figure out how to return you guys to your original state.” Zarroë said, “Anyway, your human names!”

“Why do we even need human names?” Wyska asked, sort of sagging her shoulders.

“Because you’re not monsters anymore. Obviously.” Zarroë replied. “Anywho, Ghazt, you become Wyllow.”

Before Zarroë could continue, they got interrupted once more, this time, by Vespah, “Do you not know our names?”

“SILENCE! Quit interrupting!” Zarroë demanded, watching the Singlethereals spooked expressions for a few moments before concluding that they would no longer interrupt them before continuing.

“Carrying on, Grumpyre becomes Dominique, Reebro becomes Micah, Jeeode becomes Gemma, aaand finally, Humbug becomes Val. Any questions?”

Val, Micah, and Wyllow raise their hand carefully.

“None? Okay, bye,” Zarroë says, lifting the hand out of the island. (It’s giving asshole behavior, but it's not… most of the time).

“DON’T LEAVE US, YOU BASTARD!!” Gl- excuse me, Gemma yelled, now crying. Val hugged her suuuper tight so that she didn't try doing anything drastic before she was able to calm down.

Wyllow and Micah both seemed quite afraid of Gemma’s screaming, but Dominique and Val both seemed used to it. Gemma yelled a few more curses in Val’s arms before breaking down and grabbing really tightly onto Val’s jacket.

“I hate Zarroë so much,” she cried, which heightened Micah and Wyllow’s confusion (and partial fear). They decided that they didn’t have any business in the situation and promptly left, leaving Dominique and Val to deal with a very emotional Gemma.

It was very out of character for her to act this way, as she was usually the composed one of the group. But both of the others had witnessed Gemma’s vulnerable side before, so they weren’t surprised. Still, they just needed to watch over her… just in case.

“Let’s take you to your room, okay?” Dominique suggested, helping Val lift her up without waiting for her response.

“Fine. Just.. leave me alone after.”
