Work Text:

It's not good form to be too blunt when commenting on the behaviour of another person's daemon, but when it is busy coughing up flower petals onto one's living room floor, exceptions must be made.

“Yura, why is Adrik hacking up rose petals onto my living room floor?”

A bright female voice dashes around the twists and turns of a condominium designed to hide in, travelling to a dark and luxurious kitchen where it stabs a pair of men in the kidneys as they prepare lunch. They exchange glances, and the taller of the two looks away first.

“It's a good thing Alusya has never heard of Japan.” whispers Viktor Krum, his eye on his daemon, a harpy eagle called Svetlina.

The massive bird takes off, floating through to the living room, where she lands beside a sickly looking black wolf, and begins a funny avian dance, distracting a young woman resting in a plush leather rocking chair.  Her own daemon, Krohf, peers through the window, one huge yellow eye rotating in its scaly socket. The ground shakes as he adjusts his position on the street below.

Adrik, the wolf, coughs again, dumping more slimy rose petals onto the silver carpet. The boys enter the room at that moment, carrying food and drink, and Yuri flicks a hand at the mess, magically cleaning it up. Unlike his daemon, he sits as far as possible from Alina, falling onto a sofa with a grumpy expression on his face. Viktor, meanwhile, takes the closest seat, their daemons flapping or padding over to sit beside them. Outside the window, Krohf chirps in a deep rumbling voice.

“Why is Adrik hacking up rose petals? Are you ill, Yuri?” Alina asks innocently over a potato crisp.

“Hmpf.” The boy and his dog huff at the same time, only for Adrik to leap off the sofa and rush over to the window, where he wags his tail so violently that his backside swings back and forth. Svetlina and her human grimace, both remaining more than a little angry looking at all times.

Since she's not receiving an answer from the closed lips of her best friends, Alina sighs and turns to other, less weird topics. Topics such as when her husband will be returning from the extra strength hiding he's conducting. She should be in hiding too, but her friends convinced her not to. They grow even more taciturn, causing her to be relieved when one of her babies begins crying from the nursery, forcing her to get up and go see what the problem is. The building shakes some more as her daemon follows a, striding along the street to the next window.

Yuri at first sits still and stiff, before abruptly leaping to his feet and following the girl and his daemon into the other room, where he gruffly offers his assistance.

Left alone, Viktor cracks open a beer and takes a swig, his mind fluttering between the here and now and the quidditch he's obsessed with. Perched on the back of the sofa, Svetlina begins preening.

“Those two are hopeless.” she says, before swelling up, and coughing cutely. A rose petal sails through the heated air to land on the top of her human's head. He brushes it off, eyes tearing themselves from the pink petal spotted with blood. “Yes.” he says, gulping.
