Gameoverse: Most Wanted

Summary:

Kit and Kaboodle’s next mission takes place within the world of Need For Speed Most Wanted. If they can fly a spaceship, than surely beating a racing game should be easy… right?

Work Text:

The Nimble came to a, not so gentle landing right outside a golf course.

“Kit I told you having Gobbles try to land would be a bad idea!” Kaboodle argued. I was not in the mood for an argument today.

“Learn-O-Saurus-Rex’s need time to learn things. But considering how quickly I learned how to read and write, I’m sure I’ll be a master pilot in no time!” Gobbles responded.

“Maybe you could’ve just flown the ship to the planet, and have me or Kit land it. Speaking of which, what is this, a golfing game?”

Just as Kaboodle finished his sentence, four super cars sped right past him.

“Yeah this is clearly not a golfing game.”

“Looks like we are in a racing game. But if we can fly a spaceship, we should have no problem racing cars.” I suggested.

“So what you’re saying is that we leave Gobbles out of this one?” Kaboodle asked rhetorically.

“He doesn’t have to drive. He could be a passenger. But I don’t want to leave him out on all our missions. He might be an amateur now, but give it time, and he will be an expert!”

The three got out of the Nimble and took a walk around. Every now and then, a sports car would go flying past us. We need to get one for ourselves and find out quick who the hero is. We were running late getting to this world due to an unexpected confrontation with Syntax. Luckily we managed to lose them, but who knows how close the hero is to completing the game.

Eventually we found a rusty downtown garage, and figured there might be some cars in there. And as we opened up the door, we were shocked to see it filled to the brim with expensive super cars.

“This must be the hero’s garage, make sure we choose the fastest one.” Kaboodle mentioned.

We looked at each of the stats, and chose a yellow and green Aston Martin DB9. Just as we were about to hop in, Gobbles spoke up.

“Kit, I know you wanted me to just be a passenger, but maybe I can take another car and be a backup in case something happens to you.”

I turned to Kaboodle, and his expression showed clear disapproval. But I didn’t think it was too bad of an idea. He just had to stay careful, and he could potentially be a huge help.

“Alright, go for it.” I told him, while handing him a walkie talkie.

Gobbles smiled, not expecting an approval, and hopped in the green and black Dodge Viper. Kaboodle wasn’t very happy with me.

“Kit are you out of your mind? He’s going to get himself killed driving that thing!”

I watched as Gobbles eagerly hopped in. I didn’t want to say no to him. I just wanted to treat him like another Farcade agent. But I couldn’t stand to see him get hurt in a bad crash.

“Gobbles wait!”

He looked up at me just as he was getting in the car.

“I will let you drive it on one condition. I’m not going to let you race. I’m just going to have you scout the roads up ahead for any signs of danger. It might not seem like an exciting task, but it’s a very important one.”

Gobbles looked slightly disappointed, but still somewhat excited. He gave me a thumbs up and hopped in.

We drove around the area, looking for any signs of where the hero and villain could be. Eventually we came up to a group of people crowded around two cars. I pulled up just out of their sight, while Kaboodle hopped out to listen in. There was a black Mercedes SLR McLaren, and a blue and silver BMW M3 GTR lined up together.

“Ready to donate another car to the razer fund baby!” The BMW driver announced.

Kaboodle ran back to me and gave us all the information. We know that the BMW driver is the villain. And it seems like the winner gets the losers car.

“This has to be the final boss race! We have to stop that Mercedes from winning!” I announced.

As the race started, I tried to keep up, but the two racers took off like rockets. I had trouble keeping the car stable around the tight corners, while the others stuck to their racing lines like they were on rails.

“Kaboodle, this is harder than I thought!”

“I mean, you can just blast them if you’re unable to overtake.”

“But I can’t risk killing them!”

“Well it’s either that, or everyone dies! And unless you’re going to become a racing master, we don’t have a choice!”

I kept trying to keep up. But with every corner, the car just kept slipping and sliding. Maybe this is where Gobbles can help.

“Gobbles, check your GPS, I need you to get to the end of the race! Don’t worry about the race route, just cut as many corners as you can!” I told him over the radio.

One particularly sharp corner came up. I wasn’t able to react to it in time, and I slammed into the wall head on! My vision went blurry for a little bit, but eventually came back. Somehow, the car still managed to drive fine, despite the shattered windshield.

“Holy shit, how did we survive that?”

“I don’t know, but let’s keep racing! It’s not over yet!” Kaboodle responded with a surprisingly enthusiastic tone.

At this point, the two racers were completely out of our sight. But Gobbles finally responded on the radio.

“I’m at the finish line, what do you need me to do Kit?”

“Stop the black Mercedes from winning!”

I tried my best to catch up. I started to ignore the race route and winning the race, and just focused on catching up, and taking down the Mercedes. Eventually the two racers came into view again, but it was already at the tail end of the race. It was too late to stop them, but maybe Gobbles could do it.

“Gobbles, make a move!” I told him over the radio.

He pulled out of an adjacent parking lot, trying to t-bone the Mercedes. But he missed, and spun out. The Mercedes won. We braced for impact, waiting for the world to explode, hoping we could at least save the driver. But nothing happened.

“Kit, didn’t that race seem a little underwhelming for a boss race?” Kaboodle

Just as I was about to responded, the two racers took off, and a new race route appeared on the GPS. I slammed on the gas, and followed them.

“Kaboodle, I don’t think that was the only race.”

“Gobbles, I need you to do the same thing again, it looks like they are doing multiple races, but we have to treat every one like it’s the final race!” I said over the radio.

The second and third races went more or less the same. I struggled to keep up, Gobbles failed to take out the Mercedes, which kept winning. But the fourth one, things started to look better. I finally became used to the car, and managed to stay close. On a long stretch of highway, I finally became neck and neck with them.

“Kit, now is the perfect time to blast them!”

“But we might actually be able to beat them this time.”

“We can’t take a chance. I know it’s hard, but you have to do it!”

“Fine.” I aimed my canon at the Mercedes, waiting for the perfect moment, and fired a shot. The car lost control for a little bit, but quickly regained it, and continued on like it was nothing.

“What the hell! That should’ve destroyed him!” I yelled.

“Kit, I think the cars in this game might be indestructible.”

“Which means…”

“We have to win the race, we don’t have a choice!”

The highway started to take many twists and turns, but I kept following behind, weaving between both sides, and closely dodging traffic. The finish line came into sight, and Gobbles was already in position without me having to cue him. I managed to pass the BMW on the final stretch, but the Mercedes was still ahead. Gobbles missed the t-bone, but got behind for a pit maneuver. He managed to pit the BMW, but wasn’t able to catch up to the Mercedes, which won yet again.

“Don’t worry Kit, I got some info from the spectators. There are a total of five races. The guy in the Mercedes has to win all five, so we just have to beat him in this last one.” Gobbles told me on the radio.

“Thanks for the info. Let’s give it our all on this last race!”

The two racers pulled up to the starting line. I pulled up right behind, and Gobbles drove off to his post. The race began, and I immediately began to stick close behind. As I went for an overtake on the BMW, he tried to push me into the wall. I cut the wheel and pushed back, but slipped away at a highway exit. Both of us were a little behind the Mercedes now, but slowly caught up. The race went from the smooth turns of the highway to tight and technical turns of the downtown city. Despite the tricky turns, I managed to keep my racing line, slowly catching up to the Mercedes. On a downhill straightaway, I hit a full burst of nitrous, and managed to overtake him!

“Yes, I finally got ahead!” I cheered.

“Now let’s hold the lead!” Kaboodle responded.

The finish line was in sight. Gobbles was waiting at an intersection to do his thing. But the Mercedes was creeping up behind us. And as Gobbles tried to t-bone him, he misjudged the timing, and accidentally hit us instead, sending us sliding into the wall, and letting the Mercedes win.

“What the hell just happened?” Kaboodle didn’t seem to realize that Gobbles made us loose. So I lied by responding with “I don’t know, we were so close!”

But just as we thought the world would explode again, it didn’t. The two racers got out of their cars, getting into some kind of argument. We watched from afar, debating if the game was really over or not.

“Kit we should really go back now!”

“I don’t think it’s over yet.”

As we were arguing from afar, we noticed a group of police cars start to pull up. The Mercedes driver got out of his car, took the keys to the BMW, and drove off with that. I slowly pulled up to the scene with the window down, so I could hear what was going on. We could hear two officers arguing with each other.

“I want every single unit after that guy.”

“Everyone?”

“EVERYONE!!!”

“Kit, this must be the end of the game! A final police chase against every cop in the city!”

“Great, we were helping a criminal this whole time.” I said as I started to go after the BMW.

“Wasn’t it obvious, street racing through traffic and whatnot? And think of it this way, we get the guy arrested, and save the world. It’s a win-win.”

“You’re right! But can we still drive this car? They’ll think we are another racer, they’ll try to arrest us as well, and that’ll create a distraction for the BMW, and possibly risk them escaping!”

“Are you suggesting we steal a police car?”

“It might be our best option.”

“It sounds like a stupid option, but I guess you make a good point.”

We continued to follow the BMW, keeping it just in our line of sight, to avoid the cops coming after us as well. Eventually we came up to a roadblock. The BMW slammed through it like it was nothing, but some of the police cars to the opposite side were unaffected. I mean, the cars in this game are indestructible anyways, but I’d rather not have a shattered windshield.

We hopped out of the Aston Martin, and broke into a Corvette police car, which was conveniently left running and unlocked with no cops inside. They must’ve ran away to take cover from the madman street racer. I slammed on the gas, turned on the lights and siren, and continued to chase down the BMW.

We started to get closer to it on the highway. Up ahead, it slammed into the side of a truck carrying logs. The logs fell from the truck, stopping several police cars chasing behind. I just barely managed to dodge the chaos.

“Kit, how come those police cars still aren’t chasing the BMW?” Kaboodle asked.

“The logs might’ve killed the drivers.”

“But the engines are on fire.”

The realization hit. “Shit! Don’t tell me that cop cars can be destroyed but not regular cars! How the hell are we supposed to stop him now?”

“We probably have to box him in or something! How else could we do it?”

Just as Kaboodle finished his sentence, I immediately noticed that the BMW was right next to us, about to slam us into the wall! I hit the brakes, it missed us and hit the wall itself. I slammed on the gas, tried to get in front, and brake check it while it was going slow. But it just pit maneuvered us, causing us to spin out. I regained control, and continued the pursuit.

“Maybe Gobbles can help us?” Kaboodle unexpectedly suggested. You know it’s desperate when he’s suggesting that Gobbles helps us.

“But he doesn’t have a police car!”

Kaboodle couldn’t think of a response. I just kept driving as more police cars showed up. Damn, that cop wasn’t lying when he said he wanted every unit. A couple armored police SUV’s came head-on at the BMW, but the driver dodged both, and they nearly hit us instead. Even the helicopter following the chase suddenly came in at low altitude, trying to shove the BMW. But the driver managed to slam into the tail of the helicopter, causing it to lose control and crash into even more police cars.

“This guy is nuts! Can we even stop him?” Kaboodle yelled.

“I don’t know, but I’m not giving up!”

Eventually, I managed to get right up next to the BMW, ready to pit maneuver it, and spin it out. But suddenly, the driver took a sharp turn into a gas station. He hit the pumps, causing them to ignite. He managed to escape the inferno, but the collapsing roof crushed the back of our car, destroying it.

I smacked my fist on the steering wheel in frustration. “We’re screwed!” There aren't any cop cars in the area for us to steal again. At least not any that are in one piece. In a last ditch attempt, I tried talking to Gobbles on my radio, hoping it didn't get too out of range. His voice wasn’t too clear, but it was coming through.

“Gobbles, I need you to come to us now! We are at the gas station by the highway, it just exploded and totaled our car!”

“I’m on my way. I’ll try to find you.”

After about five to ten minutes of waiting, Gobbles ripped the e-brake and slid to a stop next to us in his Viper.

“Wow, how did you find us so fast?” I asked in awe.

“I’m a fast learner, and I learned both the car and the map pretty quickly.”

I hopped in the passenger seat, with Kaboodle sitting in my lap. “Now step on it! We have to stop that BMW!”

“Kit, are you sure he’s up to the task?” Kaboodle asked.

“Yeah, even I’m not sure if I should be the one doing this.” Gobbles added as he started to look for the BMW.

“It’s a last ditch effort, but I trust you!” I told him.

Gobbles drove down a series of roads, handling the car like he’s an expert. He followed a trail of destroyed police cars and scattered car parts like a trail of breadcrumbs. Another helicopter came in, flying overhead. He immediately started to follow it. And sure enough, the BMW was back in our sight! It made a loop around a college campus, and eventually lead us back to the highway.

Another road block came into view, with a suspicious gap in the center. The BMW avoided the gap, but Gobbles went straight for it! It wasn’t until the last minute he realized that there was a spike strip! He tried to swerve, but still ended up puncturing the right rear tire.

“Great, now we are truly screwed!” Kaboodle complained.

“It’s not over yet guys!” Gobbles responded as he struggled to control the car.

Suddenly, the BMW took a hard right at an intersection mostly blocked by construction work.

“Uh, Kit, it says there’s a draw bridge up ahead.” Gobbles panicked.

“Don’t tell me he’s going to try to jump it to escape the cops!” Kaboodle responded.

“Actually, this might be the perfect chance to stop him! If we can just slow him down enough to not make the jump!” I responded.

“But how the hell can we keep up with a punctured tire?” Kaboodle responded.

Without responding, Gobbles hit a blast of nitrous. He just barely managed to get up next to the BMW. The draw bridge was right in front of us, and as we made the jump, he cut the wheel right before going airborne, slamming into the BMW. We just barely made the jump, as the BMW missed the other side. It slammed into the edge of the bridge wall, causing it to go spinning as it crashed onto the grass on the other side. It rolled on its roof. Gobbles had defeated the BMW.

“Gobbles you did it! We saved the world!” I screamed in excitement.

“I never doubted you… okay never mind that’s a total lie.” Kaboodle responded.

As a helicopter came in to arrest the driver, we all took a deep sigh of relief, just barely stopping the game from being beat.

“Well I guess we don’t have any characters to save and bring with us do we?” Kaboodle mentioned.

“Yeah, but I do kinda like that BMW.” I responded.

“Kit… don’t tell me you’re going to…”

We took off into space, proud of our successful mission. Although Kaboodle and Gobbles weren’t so happy that I just barely managed to fit our war trophy inside The Nimble.

“Kit, did we really have to take the BMW with us?” Kaboodle asked, being squished against the wall from the lack of room.

“Yes Kaboodle, yes we did.”

“OH MY GOD!!!”
