There was something different. There really was. He only realized it after a while, because initially there was nothing extraordinary, nothing particularly out of the ordinary. Just them being what they usually were. He, engrossed in a particular task in the game, and Steph beside him, fiddling with his phone. Spending time together, in silence. Comfortable, familiar.
Steph's hand was on his back, knuckles caressing his naked skin idly. At first, nothing unusual. Steph liked to touch him. He liked Steph's touch. The other ran his hand down his spine, slowly and carefully, as if tracing each vertebra of his. It was fine. He was used to it. It barely distracted him, the way it was so commonplace. His body recognized his hands as an extension of itself. As they were so intimate.
Then he was close. Closer than he was before. Warm breath on his neck. No longer focused on his phone. Okay. Sometimes he did that. He would get so bored that he would give up scrolling just to watch him play. Shota didn't mind it; he even liked the attention, liked that the other saw how good he was at that game. That way he would be more inspired to finish. Maybe even show off a little. Steph liked it when he did that. It made him smile, so, so soft.
He rested his chin on his shoulder, hand stopping on his small back. Shota barely reacted. It was a little difficult to play like that without dislodging him, but he eventually succeeded, taking care not to move too hard, to not disturb him too much. Seconds later, he noticed a subtle movement. His cheek pressing against his skin. Next a warmth transferred from his face that made him grateful to be playing without a shirt. For a moment, he wished Steph was naked too, wished he could feel that nice feeling better, further, deeper, infiltrating his pores.
More movement. Lips planting a little kiss on his shoulder. His only reaction was to tilt his head slightly to the side, just a few inches, just a tiny bit. Then Steph kissed the side of his face, so lightly that it was almost imperceptible, but it was there, the remnants of that warmth. They kissed sometimes. Kissing wasn't something unknown to them.
Shota was familiar with him, teasing him when he played, annoying him just to pass the time, treating him like a baby, holding and trapping him in his arms until his patience burned it out. As he ran his other hand down the front of his body, pressing the palm against his chest, he thought it was just Steph being Steph.
He was not familiar with him kissing the corner of his mouth. He would never go so close. Maybe Shota did, because touch was touch. Kisses were kisses. All good. But Steph? Steph liked his lines on the sand. He took pride in tracing them.
Now lips probed him gently, almost inciting. There was definitely something different about that.
He didn't pause his game, so Steph did it for him.
He didn't turn his face, so Steph cupped his chin and did it for him.
Steph blinked slowly, staring at him as if through a different lens. There was the affection he would always have for him in his eyes, but there was also something that seemed more scorching hot than soft, buzzy warm. Something unfamiliar. Scary.
Shota loved scary things. All of a sudden, that's all his heart beat for. To have his breath stolen, his senses tested.
It was terrifying. It was thrilling.
The other bit his lips. They were absurdly soft. Shota knew that.
“Can you put that aside for a while?” he asked sweetly, annoyingly. Eyelids dropping and fixed gaze.
Shota couldn't.
It really didn't matter. It wasn't that he did everything Steph asked, but at that moment, he was quite driven to do so.
He never had any lines in the sand.
“Yes,” he nodded, then softly kissed the corner of Steph's mouth back.
His heart beat faster. He took the other's lips and it seemed as if it would burst from his chest. He deepened the kiss and for a moment an arrhythmia seemed a very close, dangerously palpable reality. How masochist he was. Shota also liked that.
Steph felt his fugitive heart, then moved up to feel his collarbone, letting his fingers trace the bony structure there. He moved down once more to feel his torso. Felt his sides. Trailed his back. Delicately counted his vertebrae again, then moved up to squeeze and run his nails down his shoulders. A tangle of touches that didn't really bother him. Steph wanted every part of him? It was always his to reach anyway.
A lot of remnants. Everywhere. He felt himself burning alive, feverish meat. It made him sigh into the kiss, a breathy sound that surely seemed to vibrate back from Steph's chest. He sighed one more time and fingers pressed firmly into the dips of his scapulae. Nails scraped the skin around it. Shota kept inviting more touch, more small incisions.
Steph licked his mouth, so, so nicely. Shota sank his teeth into his lips. Maybe a little too harsh. Its fullness was tempting, causing an itch to dig down to the core, to taste something sweeter. All of Steph was sweet. As a consequence he received a slap on the shoulder and a hard pinch, red spots that would take hours to disappear. Shota chuckled. Even though he didn't feel even an ounce of guilt, he licked the bite in apology.
His gift was Steph's sigh. His was louder, bones deep. Shota licked more, chased more, until the vibration was so strong that it was the only sound he could hear.
The other broke the kiss to hug him, so tight his mouth was glued to his cheek. His breathing was so erratic that he looked like he was going to die. Shota discovered a sadistic delight in that.
“More?” Steph whispered, something scarier in his tone. Further. Deeper.
Shota leaned toward it without thinking twice.
