Summary:

My AU2 of Kageyama's Sunshine Prince.

Mikey Chooses Enjoyment makes things a lot more fun for me.

Chapter 1: Apologizing for the Blood.

Chapter Text

The rain on the mountain did not fall; it drifted, a heavy, freezing fog that pressed against the pristine marble walkways of the Kageyama estate.

Tamamo Kageyama walked the perimeter of the inner courtyard, her sweeping dark silks making no sound against the stone. Behind her, three elite shadow guards moved like ghosts, their weapons sheathed but ready. The guards had reported a breach in the spatial wards—an anomaly that suggested a thief, an assassin, or a rival syndicate scout had slipped past the mountain's defenses.

Tamamo’s sage-green eyes scanned the dim, lantern-lit flora. Her long, black-clawed fingers rested lightly against her side. She expected a fight. She expected a desperate blade in the dark.

Instead, she heard a sound that made her floppy-eared guard pause.

It was a voice. Low, raspy, and trembling with a deep, systemic exhaustion, yet carrying a strange, deliberate rhythm.

"Hey... hey, it's okay, little guy. I didn't mean to scare you. Shh, don't cry."

Tamamo stepped past a row of weeping winter willows, her sharp eyes locking onto the center of the pavilion. The breath caught in her throat.

Sitting on the immaculate, polished floor was a creature she had never seen before—a reptilian humanoid, small and strangely soft-looking compared to the apex predators of her world. He was covered in deep, terrifying lacerations. A massive crack ran down the side of his green shell, weeping dark blood onto the white marble.

He wasn't holding a weapon. He wasn't even trying to hide. His ocean-blue eyes, though hazy with pain, were wide and hyper-focused, actively tracing the movement of the shadows around him. An orange cotton mask had been untied from his face and was wrapped awkwardly around his left arm, acting as a crude, blood-soaked bandage. With trembling, bare green hands, he was gently stroking a multi-eyed manor cat that had been caught in the downpour.

"I'm just cleaning up the floor, see?" the boy whispered to the cat, his voice cracking with fatigue. He was using a torn piece of his own cloak to wipe at the smear of his own blood on the stone.

It looked like a habit born of trauma, but beneath the surface, Mikey’s mind was working with a sharp, survivalist clarity. He had dropped into an unknown territory surrounded by armed, towering guards. He knew how to read a room; he’d spent fifteen years managing volatile tempers in a concrete bunker. Making himself small, useful, and unthreatening wasn't just an instinct—it was a calculated social shield to disarm them before they could strike.

"I won't leave a mess for your owners," he murmured softly, ensuring his voice carried across the quiet courtyard. "I promise. Just gotta... get my breath back..."

The horror hit Tamamo like a physical blow.

It wasn't the sight of the injuries—she was the head of a black-market empire; she had seen war. The horror was the *normalization* of it. This child was bleeding out, his body shivering from a dimensional jump, yet his immediate, tactical response was to apologize for being an inconvenience. He was treating his own agony like an afterthought, weaponizing his own politeness to stay alive.

*Who taught a child to bleed so politely?* As Tamamo stepped forward, her black claws clicking softly on the stone, the guards flanked her. The boy looked up, his baby-blue eyes locking onto the towering gray wolf-matriarch and her armed retinue. He didn't flinch. He didn't reach for the empty weapon holsters at his belt. Instead, he let his shoulders drop into a deliberate, non-threatening posture and offered a tired, habitual, perfectly calibrated smile.

"Uh... hi?" Mikey mumbled, watching her closely, tracking the subtle shift of her ears. "Sorry about the floor, dudes. I was trying to clean it up before it stained. I didn't mean to trespass, either. I just... I had a really big fight with my brothers, and then this weird portal thing zapped me, and..." He winced, pressing a hand to his cracked shell, letting just enough vulnerability show to gauge her reaction. "Yeah. Sorry. Just give me a second to patch this up and I'll be out of your hair."

Tamamo didn't answer. She swept forward, ignoring the wet stone, and knelt directly into the puddle of water and blood. Her priceless silks soaked through, but she didn't care.

"You are injured, little one," Tamamo said, her voice dropping into a low, fiercely resonant melody. She reached out, her beautiful hands surprisingly gentle as her black-painted claws cupped his chin, forcing him to look at her. "You are deeply, terribly hurt."

Mikey shrugged, letting a soft, lonely expression linger on his face for just a fraction of a second before masking it again. "Eh, I've had worse. Don't sweat it, ma'am. I'm pretty low-maintenance."

He saw the exact second the words hit her. He watched the ancient, predatory mother-instinct flare violently in her sage-green eyes. *She hates that I'm low-maintenance,* his brain noted through the fog of pain. *She doesn't want a warrior right now. She wants something to protect.*

"No," Tamamo murmured, her eyes darkening with an absolute, terrifying possessiveness. She gathered the shiver-racked turtle directly into her arms, pulling him against the warm, lavender-scented silk of her shoulder. "You are done having worse, Sunshine."

Mikey didn't stiffen. He felt the terrifying, immense power in her frame—knew she could crush him easily if she chose to—but he also felt the absolute, unyielding safety of her hold. In New York, love was a heavy, protective thing, but it always required a tax in resilience. He had to be the funny one, the useful one, the one who earned his keep by patching up the family's frayed edges.

Here, this woman was treating his existence like a tragedy just because he was bleeding. She was offering unconditional care, and Mikey, processing the physics of the room even through his fading consciousness, made a conscious, sudden decision to lean directly into it.

"Bring the clan physicians to the southern wing," Tamamo commanded, her voice cutting through the rain with chilling authority as she stood up, lifting Mikey easily into her arms. "Wake Ishida. Tell him to clear the black-market registries. I want to know exactly what dimension this child slipped out of."

"Ma'am?" Mikey blinked, his vision fading as he voluntarily let his hyper-vigilance drop, his head sinking against her shoulder. "Where... where am I?"

Tamamo looked down at him, her expression softening into a serene, beautiful smile that promised absolute safety—and total annihilation to anything that threatened it.

"You are home, my sweet angel," she whispered, her fingers smoothing over his head as his eyes finally drifted shut. "You are finally home."
