Rain

Summary:

A death note au fic

I need to make more fics based off of this in the future, but the main setup is L, Mello and Near are all Watari’s adopted kids, and Matt was adopted by Roger. This is a random segment I didn’t want to make into a comic, cause I had good ideas for it writing wise.

After leaving school, Mello realises Matt left a few minutes earlier, in the pouring rain, without an umbrella...

also please excuse my romance writing skills. Romantic attraction is not a feeling I have ever experienced before, and I've never written about it before this.

Chapter Text

It felt as if the day couldn’t get any longer.

Mihael Keehl was sitting at his desk, impatiently tapping his nails against the wood. A rhythmic pattern that almost made up for the lack of a ticking clock, that would have added much more drama and suspense to this already incredibly boring day. He wasn’t looking forward to walking home after this either. He could hardly see out of the large window next to him due to the amount of water being flung from the sky at such high speeds, he thought one drop might blow a hole through someone unfortunate enough not to have brought an umbrella.

Someone like his best friend, Matt Jeevas, who he had walked to school just that morning, despite the fact Roger, Matt’s guardian, was very much against this arrangement.

He didn’t approve of his kid going around with such scum as Mihael Keehl, the boy who was known for breaking rules, saying curse words at the top of his lungs, no matter who may be there, and overall just looking like a threat. But he had no choice,
Seeing as one boy had an umbrella, the other did not, and he didn’t want to deal with a soaking-wet school uniform.

Mihael thought about how long ago it felt since he had walked up to Matt’s door that morning, even though it had only been a few hours.
The walk itself felt as though it took years, however, as his little brother, Nate, had looked as though he were going to burst out laughing for every second of it.
An expression rarely seen on that boy's face, but one that was somewhat reasonable for the situation. Matt, not having an umbrella of his own, had to share an umbrella with his friend. There was no extra room under it, unless, of course, he held on tightly to the arm of the boy who held the umbrella. This made Mihael slightly flustered, seeing as he may or may not have had a slight crush on Matt, that had slowly developed over the years of them being friends.
He thought he was good at hiding it, but Nate caught on almost immediately.

Every second, his heart was pounding, not only because he had a cute guy clinging onto him, but because of the fear of “MATT AND MELLO SITTING IN A TREE,” or some stupid shit like that, exiting the stupid mouth of his stupid brother.
He tried not to think about that part, as much as the part where Nate fell and got muddy water all over his uniform. Now that was an enjoyable part of his day.

After giggling to himself slightly, Mello tried to think of what could have made the day feel so long. He didn’t think he had anything important after school, and he didn’t often find school boring. Except for the class he was in now, being Russian.
A language he was already fluent in, meaning the class didn’t really do much for him. Maybe it was the fact he had hardly seen Matt all day.

“Yes, that must be the problem,”

He thought to himself. Sure he had walked him to school, but that was awkward, and cold.
He wanted a normal moment, where he could just talk, and have Matt listen as he always did.
But they had been moved to separate classes due to a stunt he had pulled only a week prior, in which he read a quite vulgar poem aloud,
In front of the class. He had no idea why Matt had been punished for this as well, and he felt quite bad, but there was really nothing he could do.

Suddenly, after what felt like a whole week, the bell finally rang.
All he wanted at the current moment was to leave the fucking school, but as soon as he moved the slightest bit away from his desk, the teacher stopped him.

“Mr. Keehl, I need to talk to you after class. Stay in your seat please.”

There were a bunch of “Oohs,” from his fellow classmates, to which he just mumbled for them to shut up.
He wasn’t up for dealing with any more trouble than he was probably already in. As soon as, it was just him and the teacher,
She brought her comfortable looking rolling chair up to his desk, and just stared at him.

“This is f-weird.”

He stopped himself from cursing in front of her, as he knew the teachers didn’t appreciate that.

“I noticed you weren’t paying attention in my class, Mello. Can you tell me why that is?”

He was surprised at the fact that this was all he was in trouble for, seeing as he had done a lot worse things as of late.

“I don’t mean to sound rude,”

He started, even though he couldn't care less about being rude,

“But I already know everything this class has to teach. I’m only taking it because I’m required to take a language this year.”

“I know that much,”

His teacher responded,

“You’ve told me about a hundred times. The thing is, you had a strange look on your face during a part of my lesson.”

Mello suddenly felt as though he were on fire. Had he made a stupid face again while thinking about Matt? He fucking hoped not.

“I apologize ma’am, I was just thinking about a lot of stuff. Can I go now?”

He asked, words leaving his mouth faster than they had in a while.

“I suppose so. If anything is going on, feel free to tell me.”

He “Thanked” her, and ran off to his locker to grab his things.
