Work Text:
"Hey Willow, do you want to go to the supermarket with me this afternoon?"
Willow looks at me like I've just asked her to murder someone, asking whether or not she wants to go to the supermarket with me isn't that odd, right?
I wait a few seconds for her to answer, but she doesn't, so I say her name again. "Mhmm, yeah, sure," she says.
It doesn't really sound that convincing, so I ask her whether she is sure that she wants to come. She nods her head in response and smiles. She's still not very enthusiastic about it, I don't believe her yet, but whatever. I told a lot of lies when I was younger, that's is why I am very good at recognising when someone is lying.
I tell her I want to leave around half past three, it's three pm now, which means we have some time left to drink some coffee.
"That's fine. Do you want to watch Netflix before we leave?" I'm glad she's talking to me so I tell her I want to watch Netflix with her.
I sip my coffee while she's searching for a show to watch. Both of us think a show about a crime case would be fun, so we decide to watch it. I think about my parents and my sister while we're watching the series.
My sister was a bitch, she didn't care about personal space and had no respect for others. In comparison to her, I was a very quiet kid, I hardly ever misbehaved. Somehow my parents liked her more than they liked me.
I do miss my sister an awful lot though. The last time I've heard anything from her was on the 7th of July 2021, she hadn't started to ghost me, I wish she had. Instead my sister and my parents died in a car crash, their car collided with another car. Neither them nor the people in the other car survived the collision.
This happened when I was at school, my teacher got a call from the police station. The expression on her face was one I had never seen before. She started crying but had to pull herself together. When she broke the news to me, she started crying again, so did I.
Willow comforted me while I was crying. She's been my best friend for years now. Willow and I went to her house after I had calmed down a bit, I didn't want to be alone that day.
Fortunately Willow's mom is very nice and welcomed me with open arms. She told me I could spend as much time as needed at their house. The time I ended up spending there really was a lot, I guess it could've been 2 months. I'm still really grateful for how much they helped me, I was 19 at that time and definitely couldn't have done everything on my own. This was almost 4 years ago, but I still can't over the fact that they're gone.
On the way to the supermarket I spot some deer on the way to the supermarket, one looks me in the eyes while I'm staring at its cute face. The deer is small with a reddish coat and big eyes. I smile, I like deer, well actually, I like animals in general.
On the rest of the way to the supermarket I just stare out of the window, hoping to spot some more animals.
When we arrive at the parking lot in front of the supermarket I ask Willow if there's something specific she wants to buy.
"I really want to buy waffles actually, I'm craving them and I'm way too lazy to make them myself."
I'm glad she's finally acting a bit happier, so I insist. "Great! We'll buy those. We also need to buy some candy since it's Halloween and there'll probably be a bunch of kids at our door begging for candy. And I think we also need to buy some food for dinner. Do you have any dinner plans in mind? I was thinking of having a simple dinner, bread with soup maybe? Or with eggs?"
Willow furrows her brow and looks away while tapping her shoe on the ground. I lean against the car as I wait for her answer.
"Hmm, I'm in the mood for some fresh bread with eggs."
