Can't we stay like this forever?

Summary:

You were beautiful, kind, compassionate, you saw the world in a form of vibrancy he'd lost centuries ago. In every way, you're the perfect example of what humanity should be world wide but...

You're mortal.

Work Text:

Immortality sucked. That was fact and anyone who disagreed was wither full of themselves or filled to the brim with childish naiveté.

After having been around this long, he'd stopped making meaningful connections outside of other immortals, human or otherwise.

Even then 'connection' was a loose term, half the time he was just using them as a means to an end.

When he met you, he had no plans of becoming so head over heels, but, well... plans change. But he hardly expected to want you in his life this badly.

You were beautiful, kind, compassionate, you saw the world in a form of vibrancy he'd lost centuries ago. In every way, you're the perfect example of what humanity should be world wide but...

You're mortal.

You're overwhelmingly strong, yes. Your magic is so full of life and its got such a uniqueness. A cascading waterfall, a vibrant flame, winds that rush past his ears.

That's your magic... that uniqueness means he can't help himself but be in its wonderous presence

But the fact remains that one day you'll end up six feet under him.

Solomon could change that, of course.

The spelt was seared into his memory like a cruel, inhumane branding. As if the past he so desperately wanted to abandon was stitched into his body, mind and soul.

So, as he lay next to you tonight, staring at the pact marks the brothers welded to your skin, he'll refuse to let you become shackled to a past you don't want, either, but how can he live without his lovely apprentice by his side?

Perhaps if he found a cure for his immortality, he could die beside you, but that'd mean leaving behind humanity.

Leaving behind a legacy to sorcerer's that'll only know of his goal through history books and rumours. Rumours that'll twist and maim the already fragile legacy.

And what'd become of your legacy?

So no, that's off the table. Of course, Solomon could just cherish the time you have together, which he does.

But... How can he cherish someone with such a bright burning flame, so essential to his being, if cherishing your memory will never keep you from dying out?

He needs you, not just your memory, not just the impact your soul brought to the earth still lingering in the air.

No, he needs you.

To carve a space inside of your own body and lay down in it.

He needs to feel you in the most intimate way.

Solomon sighs to himself, before rolling over, away from you. Staring at your flesh and bone won't do anything to solve his dilemma that is 'need'.

He hardly noticed before, but he'd been crying. He let the tears drip down his cheek, to his chin, and onto his pillow. It was a pillow you'd hand sewn.

.

..

...

God, he's going to ruin himself for you one day.
