It was quiet in the corridor, the only sound that could be heard was heavy breathing, Sans had defeated the human, he wasn’t sure what the count of that was, but he could guess from the kid’s expression, probably around the 10th or so time he was able to.
He expected he would have already forgotten by now, but it seems the kid was taking their time, or maybe it took this long, who knows, it’s not like it even mattered anyways, they would do whatever they usually do, and there was nothing anyone else could do about it.
He moved to one of the pillars and sat down, the human’s soul still in his hands, his mind was elsewhere, not in anything specific, he couldn’t focus well, even when he tried.
His eyes catched on the soul in his hand, it was weird, this is the thing that enables humans the capacity to enormous amounts of power. Just a tiny red heart-shaped soul, and it gave a child the ability to eviscerate thousands, from the most powerful guards, to the small innocent children.
He was sure if the human knew where the rest were, they would not let them leave.
This human is really taking their time, aren't they?
He squinted at the soul.
What would happen if he absorbed it?
Well, in theory he already knew that, after the accident with the king’s children, half of the studies on the lab would not stop talking about them, being able to pass the barrier, getting as powerful as a human capable of destroying an entire monster society, the descriptions even mentioned that the kid seemed to age, but that’s mostly in question.
And this soul was the same type as the one Asgore’s kid had, Determination.
He squinted harder at it.
This was such a bad idea.
Sans closed his eyes and absorbed the human soul.
There was a moment.
Then the skeleton felt an indescribable rush of power, so much it hurted, he felt a bit of his HP going down, he was right, this was on of his most stupid ideas, he was thankful he was sitting, he was sure that if he wasn’t he would have fallen to the floor.
It kept that way, he couldn’t say for how long, but it ended abruptly.
He breathed a sigh of relief.
He didn’t notice any difference physically-wise, it was well theorized that only boss monsters had the chance, they were afterall, the closest thing to a human a monster could get.
He was also sure that wouldn’t have hurt so much if he was one, or maybe it’s just how weak he was.
He was sure that wasn’t a problem anymore though.
He still felt tired, but it was so much less, he was thankful that he wouldn’t remember this afterwards, because this feeling of not being tired could potentially be addicting.
He went to test by using one of his blasters, just for instead of a normal-sized one popping in and firing the blast a second later, there was instead a blaster Papyrus’s size, that eviscerated two pillars at the same time.
This was different, he knew in theory, that the human was stronger than a monster could ever imagine, but seeing and feeling it, it was, well he could only find the words different at the moment.
He got up and stared at what was left of the blast, quietly, there was only one thought he had.
Why hadn’t Asgore already used the other souls.
He could understand the need for 7, of course, they needed that amount to break the barrier, but Sans now was absolutely sure that with even one Asgore could get the rest.
And he had 6 available, 6 souls, capable of six times this power he was feeling, and even more if he counted how weak he was compared to the king, it would be a breeze to beat down one extra human, and even more if he felt like it, he could break the barrier, free the monsters, and he would be powerful enough to protect the monster race from them.
He wouldn’t even have to murder children, there were plenty of adults available, who probably had even more powerful souls than grade schoolers.
Yet they were here, stuck in a timeloop of a child with the ability to control them, and not one of them could even remember it.
He put his hand in his face and took a breath, only to notice he had a bump in his head.
He blinked, then blinked again.
Why did he have a horn?
If there were changes, he definitely didn’t think gaining a horn would be one of them, principally only one instead of two.
He looked back down, only to notice, his tail had grown as well, it resembled a boss monster’s one, but made of bones.
Skeletons had tails, it was the biggest pointer indicating that skeleton monsters were not just human skeletons coming to life.
But they were small, and mostly unnoticeable, usually compared to a reptilian monster’s.
Okay so absorbing a soul made him slowly transform into a boss monster, cool.
He was not going to deal with that revelation, it’s not like it mattered anyways, in the end, he would just forget about this weird timeline, probably die by the hands of the human, then go back, hand out with his bro, eat some hotdogs, maybe Alphys machine would have something new to offer, or maybe not, then rinse and repeat.
So why did it matter if absorbing a human soul made him gain some boss monster traits.
It won’t change anything in the end.
He went back and sat leaning against the pillar once again, waiting for when the world would turn black.
Missing the red eyes observing him from a distance.
That also probably wouldn’t matter in the end, the world turned black, and a cage woke up from a fall in a pile of yellow flowers once again.
