Chapter 1 “HER DIMENSION”
Pronunciation of Noctyra “NOK-tee-rah” meaning “She who carries the night moon”
pronunciation of Desdemona "dez-uh-moan-nuh" meaning “ill-fated” and "daughter of hate”
It wasn't my blood on me, but I was hurt badly. I had to run; all of us did. There were four of us, but one of us just died, I think. I don't really know if we can die in this dimension, but now there's only three. “She’s capable of more than we thought.” How did she do that? I thought coming back here would give us answers on how to get out of this place, but all it caused was death. If she is really dead, what now? She was important. We all are, so if one of us dies, this whole plan could go wrong. “We just have to keep running, just keep running until we're at the base. THERE, ALMOST! QUICK, CLOSE IT!” Desdemona shouted, and Auralyn shouted back, “I ALREADY DID! WILL THIS HOLD HER, THOUGH? BECAUSE WE STILL HAVE A FEW HOURS UNTIL 6:00, AND SHE'S MAKING DENTS—HUGE ONES, LIKE THEY'RE ABSOLUTELY GIGANTIC!” Auralyn shouted. Koa, the one who made the steel door, shouted back, “IT SHOULD, OR WE'RE SCREWED!” Just as Koa said that, Noctyra burst through the steel door.

While writing down some notes for the test tomorrow, something outside the window caught my eye. Why did the rain stop? It was pouring so hard, and the fog on the windows is gone. Wait, who's that outside the window by the forest? Are there moths around them? But moths aren't native to this area. They're wearing a mask—or is it their face? I can't see from here. They're going into the woods. That's not safe with all the murders in the woods. I'll tell the teacher—
“Desdemona? You have a test tomorrow. You don't usually space out, and your notes aren't even done. Is everything okay?” “Oh! Miss Sun, I saw someone walk into the woods just now. It's not safe there right now with all the murders!” I explained to the teacher, but she didn't believe me. “I don't know how you saw outside through the foggy window, but we'll send a search party. Even if it was just a silhouette, it's still good to search. Thanks for telling me, Desdemona.” Miss Sun didn't fully believe me, and I didn't know when the search party would go out. What if by the time the search party goes out, they're already dead? But I can't go out there; I'm just a kid, and plus Mom would never allow me. It’s raining; if I get sick, she would be so mad about me not caring about my health, and I don't want to worry my mom.
I'll go check it out after school. A few hours later, this is the last period before school is out. DING DING DING! Yes, school's out. Home time. But something's not right. Who was that? Why were they going into the woods? Were they wearing a mask, or was it their face? Ugh, I'll think about this on my way home. As I walked home, the rain suddenly stopped and the sounds around me disappeared. I couldn't hear the footsteps of people around me; the loud winds quieted, not making a peep. The once loud chirping crickets stopped, like the world just stopped. All the sound was gone; nothing but my heartbeat could be heard. My breath was heavy. I looked around trying to figure out what in the world was going on! I looked at the sky, now red like blood. The clouds were gone. The moon—something was different. It had… a face!? It looked like the moon was looking toward me. I heard a noise coming from the woods. I looked toward the woods.
The person was there again, but they were closer and… LOOKING AT ME!
I tried to run, but it felt like I was stuck. I looked down; the grass, now longer, started to warp around my legs. "What's happening!? I can't break from the grass; it feels like vines and steel. It's cutting into my legs!" Crimson red blood dripped from her leg. It felt like 1,000 razors were being pressed against my legs. No, I have a race tomorrow! Mother's going to flip out when she realizes I can't run in the race tomorrow! The person walked closer. Now, since she was closer, Desdemona could see her better. It was a woman in a form-fitting white dress; at the bottom, it faded into black, but just above the black were reddish-brown spots—dried blood. Her nails were sharp and stained with blood. "Come, small child, don't be afraid. My name is Noctyra." I tried to scream, but the vine-like grass that had been crawling up my body now covered my mouth and nose. I was no longer able to breathe.
I have to escape; I can't die here! Her head started to feel light and dizzy. I felt like I was being crushed—! My arms weren't covered. Mother gave me a knife to protect myself; where is it! I thought I had it here… W-where is i-it? THERE!!
She grabbed the small pocket knife she had and tried to cut the vine, but only the new vine that had just spread over her mouth and nose could be cut. The rest of the vine-like grass was solid like steel. She had been there for what felt like hours, just cutting away the vine-like grass from covering her mouth, each time a bit harder than the last. Noctyra had already left, probably assuming she would die from the vine-like grass, but then all of a sudden, she heard ringing in her ears and blacked out.
