Chapter Text

“Just hurry up, hun! I wanna go,” David called from the drivers seat. The window of Y/N’s car was rolled down so he could smoke without her being pissed. He knew that she’d still be pissed that the smoke would cling to the seat covers. Dave didn’t give a damn on account of the fact that he felt entitled to have a smoke, whether she liked it or not. She turned her head back to the DX ignoring the scent. She didn’t want to start another fight.

The two had been arguing a lot recently. He was a dick, she was stubborn. They just didn’t click like they used to.

She hurried into the gas station taking a quick glance around the front of the store. It wasn’t even colder inside. The counter was empty and there was a young, grease boy, no older than 12, at the counter with some candy and a bottle of soda. He impatiently tapped his foot and rang a little bell over and over again. Y/N was pissed already with her boyfriend and the uncomfortable heat from the Oklahoma sun, now she had to listen to this kid.

She chose to move on and ignore it; she walked to the back to look in the fridges. She breathed out an annoyed curse because they didn’t have her favorite soda. She pinched her brow and turned back to see the boy with the last bottle of her favorite soda, ringing the bell.

She shook her head and went into one of the isles in search of a bag of chips or something appetizing. Luckily, she found a bag of chips she knew she and David liked and settled on buying them. She went to the next isle to find a bag of candy or something to make David less upset with her. She saw a bag of candy he liked and reached up to grab it. Her sleeve rode up a tad from her reach and she caught a glimpse of the bruise David had left on her. The mark was dark and ugly, outlining where his rough fingers had grabbed her. She swallowed and quickly adjusted it. The ringing of the bell had stopped by then but there was a tad of sweat on her brow. She went over to the register to pay with the chips and candy, settling without her favorite soda. The cashier was there now. He was a greaser boy, he looked something real handsome. He had blonde hair and a charming grin, as well as these pretty dark brown eyes. She couldn’t help but take a glance down at him, half of her looking at his body and half just checking his name tag. It read the name “Sodapop” on the patch on his blue shirt; and he was lean, clearly strong, just not big.

The kid finished up buying his crap and she stepped up to the register, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.

“Hey there,” the cashier, Sodapop, said to her with that charming smile. She nodded back to him, setting her stuff on the counter. She saw him eye her with attempt to be subtle.

“Hi,” she said with a tad bit of blush. He noticed but didn’t want to embarrass her.

“It’s hot out, don’t you want something to drink? You’re looking warm.” He grinned as he rung her up.

“The kid took the last soda,” She replied to him with a small smile.

“Did he now? Lemme check the back,” He started to step back.

“Nah you’re okay,” she smiled at his efforts. “I ain’t that thirsty.”

“But you are thirsty, huh?” He smiled back at her already stepping into the back to grab the sodas the boy before had. He brought it over to the counter and popped the bottle open with the bottle opener on his keys and slid it over the counter to her. He smiled and said to her, “My treat.”

She shook her head a little with a small smile. He was cute, real smooth too. “You give girls drinks often?” She asked as she paid for the chips and candy. He shrugged.

“Only the real cute ones,” he answered with a smile and a sparkle in his dark eyes. “You got a man?” He asked her. She dreaded her answer.

“Yeah, I got a man,” she told him, honestly. She thought back to the last guy that hit on her; how he ended up in a brawl with David. David was a real violent guy, it was a major turnoff.

“Yeah? I guess that’s no surprise.” He smiled, like he’d figured she’d say that. She was a pretty girl, as well as a soc girl. He half thought she’d tell him she had a man even if she didn’t just because she was a soc and he was a greaser. He just figured theres no harm in trying. Besides, he thought she was really pretty. He gave her the receipt for her stuff and a bag for it. “Hey, you find me if that goes to hell, alright?” He smiled and she did too with a slight bite of her tongue.

She smiled a bit a grabbed her stuff as well as picking up the bottle of soda and taking a sip. “Will do,” she shrugged before cooly heading to the door. “I’ll see you around.”

“See ya,” he nodded his head a watched her walk out to her car.

It was clear to her that he was a charmer. She couldn’t help the tiny grin on her lips as she headed back to her car. Her smile fading as she noticed David seemingly a little upset over something. “What’s wrong?” she asked him as she got into the passenger seat.

“Nothin’,” he muttered back to her his eyes lingering on the DX. It was clear as day that he was brewing on something just not ready to voice it.

She sighed and mumbled a quick “okay” as David started the car and started driving back to his place. Y/N couldn’t help but allow Sodapop to come back into her mind for just a small moment. He seemed so respectful, handsome too. She had to push him back out of her mind when she caught David’s eyes for a second.
