One of Those Days

Summary:

It's one of those days for the MT girls, luckily that have each other.

Chapter 1: Numb

Chapter Text

Astra walked numbly to the kitchen to make herself some coffee. It wouldn't really help today, she knew that, but it was habit at this point. She sipped on her drink, the caffeine didn't help, but the terrible taste sometimes did. Today though, she was as numb to the taste as she was to everything else. Eventually she got tired of standing and sat down on one of the couches. It was the U shaped one, so she could throw her feet up and still lean against the back. Win-win.

“Hey Astra you good?” Astra didn't really hear the voice. It was kinda like listening to someone while she was underwater. Oooo, that was a good idea. They had a hot tub in here right? If they didn't she could just visit some hot springs in any number of dimensions. She really didn't wanna get up, but for hot springs it would be worth it.

“Astra?” The woman in question jumped slightly as a hand waved in front of her face. Some of her still hot coffee spilled onto her. She somewhat felt it burn her skin, but the only thought she had was, ‘dang, now I have to wash this shirt.’

“Oh sorry, do you need a napkin or something?” The person in front of her, who she finally recognized as, Heath asked. Astra lazily shrugged,

“Ehh, it's fine. Unless it spilled on the couch in which case I probably will.” She said unenthusiastically. Heath glanced around her,

“Uh, I don't think it spilled on the couch. You good though? It doesn't hurt?” Astra shrugged again.

“Why would I be?” She sighed slowly. These days were weird, her brain was moving at a leisurely pace, which wasn't too uncommon for her, but her body seemed like it was moving in slow motion. Wait, why did his face look like that? Heath looked down at her, concerned. Concerned? For her? Astra would have laughed if she had the energy. Her face scrunched in thought as she realized,

“No, that's not right. It's ‘why wouldn't I be’ isn't it?” Astra thought aloud. That just got Heath looking more concerned.

“Or was I right the first time?” She asked him.

“There's no right answer Astra,” Heath answered.

“Then why ask the question?” Astra asked earnestly. Heath studied her closer. She did look more tired than usual. He'd thought her complaining had just been Astra being Astra, but he felt the need to ask,

“How long has it been since you got any sleep?” Astra thought hard about that one.

“I don't remember. Though that doesn't exactly make it special, I don't remember most of the things I've done in the last while. Could be two hours ago, could be two weeks ago. It's anyone's guess really.” Even though that was the most verbose she'd been all day, she still said everything sluggishly, as if through a mouthful of slime. Heath didn't really know how to respond to that.

“Ok well, me and Sterling were gonna watch something in here, but we can go somewhere else if you're busy.”

“Mm, no it's fine. I'm not doing anything. Besides, I’m sure I'll get a job soon and be out of your hair,” she looked up at his head,

“If you had hair that is.”

“Ouch, ok.” Heath chuckled. He figured if she could still insult him, she was probably fine. Astra took another sip of the coffee she'd already forgotten she had. Sterling came in a few minutes later with breakfast. They watched some anime that Astra didn't pay any attention to. She was sure it was very interesting, but right now she wasn't at all interested. It was nice background noise to zone out to though.

Eventually Sterling and Heath left, bringing Astra back to reality once again. She looked down at her now cold coffee and decided to leave it on the kitchen counter in case someone else wanted it. She got ready to psych herself up to get up, before she realized that she could just make a portal. She internally groaned, she wasn't putting that much effort into that, and created the portal, stuck the coffee through it, and let it close. It was sort of mesmerizing to watch it close. It wasn't often anymore that she could just let a portal drift closed, usually she had to close it quickly as they ran away from something. It was nice. Though after the portal closed she was confronted with an unhappy Vasilia flopping across her lap.
