Work Text:
Two Time and Azure were walking toward the cabins after a mentoring session with Amarah. “So, do you want me to drop you off at your cabin or…? I’m fine with anything.” Azure said.
“Actually,” Two Time said, “Is it okay if we… talk? At my place?” they asked, the slightest bit of anxiety creeping into their voice. They’d been planning this talk for quite a while now. Ever since they realized that love and care for Azure wasn’t platonic anymore. Their mind was racing with all sorts of outcomes. What if they don’t reciprocate romantic feelings? What if they make the friendship awkward? What if Azure decides to completely disconnect? What if-
Azure’s voice sliced through their spiral. “Sure!” he replied.
They continued to walk toward Two Time’s cabin, and once they arrived, they both entered their living room. “So,” Azure began, “What was the thing you wanted to talk about?”
Gosh, they weren’t ready for this. They should’ve rehearsed this or something beforehand! “Well, uh, hah…” they stammered. Why am I getting so anxious about this?! they thought to themself. “I have… mm…” They noticed that they were beginning to sweat, so they quickly peeled off their jacket and wrapped it around their waist.
“It’s okay,” Azure reassured. “You have…?”
There was no going back now. The words came tumbling out. “R-romantic feelings for you…”
They both sat in silence, for a moment that seemed to stretch out for hours. They’d clearly messed up. Their brain scrambled for something that would hopefully validate Azure if he didn’t see them like that.
“I-If you don’t feel the same, that’s fine!! Sorry if I made things awkward,” they said frantically. “I don’t want to make you uncomfortable…”
“No no, it’s completely fine! And, to be honest, I feel… quite flattered, really.” he said sheepishly.
Two Time should just apologize again. He was probably just being polite and trying to reject them in the least hurtful way possible.
“Because,” Azure started. Two Time braced themself for emotional impact.
“I feel the same way. I-I just didn’t know when or- or how to tell you.”
Wait.
What?
This had to be a dream of sorts.
They felt so… light. Fluttery, even.
A shy smile slowly tugged at their lips. But they had to make sure they didn’t accidentally pressure him to accept it.
“G-Genuinely? Because you don’t have to force yourself or anything-“
“Genuinely.”
Two Time let out a breath they didn’t even know they were holding. They felt like their heart was practically soaring.
“…yay!” they said quietly.
They were definitely going to have to thank the Spawn later. This was really happening.
“…Words can’t describe how happy I am right now. I’m so glad the Spawn willed this.” Azure said.
“Me too. So, um- it’s official? We’re… romantic partners?” they asked nervously, still afraid of accidentally forcing him to accept it.
“Yup,” he answered. “And I couldn’t imagine sharing it with anyone else.”
Two Time felt their face flush. They didn’t deserve Azure at all.
“…I couldn’t imagine anyone but you beside me, either.” they replied.
“…I’m really, really glad to hear that, my nightshade,” they said contently.
“Uh- Is it okay if I call you that? Sorry for not asking first,” he quickly stammered.
“You’re- You’re nicknaming me after your favorite flower?!” Two Time remarked excitedly. “Of course you can use it! Hm… can I do the same for you?”
“Of course!!” Azure answered gleefully.
They both grinned at each other, wide and unabashed. This went so much better than Two Time could’ve ever hoped for.
“I love you, my lily,” they said softly, liking how the words fit around their lips.
“I love you too, my nightshade.”
The sweet words filled them with a warmth they couldn’t describe. Being with Azure made them happy in a way they’d never felt before.
As if they planned it, they both envelope each other in a warm, mutually loving embrace.
