Work Text:
Human?
He heard a thud downstairs. The sound of someone punching the wall maybe. Based on the floor arrangements, it came from Enjin's room.
The time was currently 2am. Tamsy hadn't been able to sleep. He sat up from his bed, opened the window, and climbed out.
"Didn't even close your window? It's as if you were hoping I would come in here."
Enjin gave a tired glance at the figure perched on his windowcel. Admittedly yes- he had a gut feeling that Tamsy was still awake and would react to when he punched the wall. But whether Tamsy decided to see him or not was entirely up to the other.
"You chose to visit me. Couldn't sleep?"
He watched as the other climbed into the room, closing the window behind him before walking over to where Enjin sat on his bed. How polite.
"What do you think? That I woke up because of your pathetic punch?" Enjin was pushed down onto the bed as Tamsy hovered over him.
He didn't try to push him away. Not like he would, but Enjin was just so tired. Too tired to even respond to that previous insult (?)
"You're thinking about your past again." It wasn't a question. Tamsy knew exactly what was on his mind.
He had never told anyone about his past. Not even team Akuta knows. The only person he had really ever brought up his past to was the boss.
Yet the man on top of him, in all his geniusness, had dug up and pieced together parts of what he had broken and buried. Enjin doesn't know how he did it. But he remembers it was a night just like this. The air was melancholic, and the scent of cigarette filled the room.
Tamsy had been tracing his tattoos when he asked a rather nostalgic questions:
"You're a slave?"
That question hit hard. He didn't known what to say that time and could only stare at the other in pure shock and horror. (Perhaps even fear?) The expression of his partner made Tamsy reword his question.
"No, sorry. You WERE a slave? Am I correct?"
The way he asked it so casually as if Tamsy were only correcting a mundane question, made his skin crawl. His partners eyes held no guilt. Only expectation for an answer that he most likely already knew- just wanting for the man to admit it out loud.
Perhaps that should've been the final sign for Enjin to step back. Been suspicious of his partner. Confront him even. But Enjin didn't.
Because he truly loved the man infront of him. Tamsy was beautiful in more ways than just his physical appearance. The way he wielded Tokushin with ease despite not having unlocked it's full potential. How he moved so gracefully around the battlefield. His gentleness in touch when his eyes are so cold.
To Enjin,
Tamsy was the most captivating thing ever to have existed.
"The same number of toes."
He was brought back to the present as he felt their hands intertwine.
"The same guilty hands."
So this is where it's going.
"The same body heat, felt between breaths of equal heat."
He watched Tamsy push himself up to most likely get a full view of his expression devoid of anything.
"You're so adorable."
Adorable.
"You always say that..."
The man above responded with light chuckle, eyes no longer cold. But filled with control and adoration.
"Well of course."
Using one hand, he swiftly interlocked their fingers once more. And with the other, he caressed the head of the man so inferior dear to him.
He squeezed their hands tighter as the next sentence left his mouth.
"You're someone who I could crush in an instant if I felt like it."
"I told you that, that behaviour was unacceptable."
"Raising a child isn't easy huh?"
His skin was burning. And these people didn't care.
"Aw, I think he's crying. It's too adorable!"
His vision was blurring. The pain was too much. Soon everything went black and he collapsed with a thud.
"Oh oops. He fainted."
...
He hated this place. It's people. The rules. Everyone was so stupid. He hated them all. They don't care for their own children. Just their own status.
His body was burned and scarred from their punishments. Yet somehow it was still Tamsy's fault.
He gripped the yarn winder in his hand tighter. It was all he cherished in this place. His parents were livid when he had brought it home. But it was his treasure and he won't let anyone take it away.
Thread had may purposes. It was capable of doing many things. Securing, mending, creating, organizing- Even absurd ideas such as trapping, restraining....controlling.
Control.
He hadn't mentioned it before but at the moment he was sitting on the edge of the Sphere where below the pit expanded.
He had read stories of old about the ground. Without thinking- he jumped off the ledge and delved into the deepest abyss.
He won't say what exactly happened after that but
Tamsy just felt like he would be at peace. He stared up at the sky from which he had fell and smiled. Taking hold of his now transformed Yarn Winder- Tamsy set off to explore this new place where he's not the one being crushed.
"Hey, you okay?" Ah. How fascinating. Tamsy can sense the same energy radiating off this man as he felt with his Yarn Winder.
He had stolen some clothes from what he later learned was called a group of "human traffickers". They had attempted to kidnap him because he was a "Spherite".
Tamsy managed to take most of them down but one had slipped away and came back with a gun intending to shoot him. But the person infront of Tamsy had stopped the attempt.
"You're a giver ey?" Pointing with his eyes at Tamsy's treasure.
"Wanna come with us? We could use a few more members."
Giver? Tamsy shot the mysterious stranger a confused look. He found it quite rude when he wasn't given a answer but was promptly laughed at by this weirdass stranger.
"Let's go. I'll explain everything to ya." He took a few steps forward before abruptly stopping and turning to face Tamsy once more.
"Name's Enjin by the way. And I'm a humble Cleaner."
The ground was definitely freeing. When he joined the cleaners- he hadn't expected this type of atmosphere. It was so lively unlike the Sphere. He watched someone paint on the walls without repercussion. Watched Enjin throw an insult across the room without being hit.
It was nice being in a place where he wasn't the one being crushed.
He turned his head to look at person sitting beside him who was laughing so lively at something so stupid.
But a place where he could crush someone.
He caressed the tattooed biceps he had grown to love. It was admittedly a beautiful pattern. Such a pretty thing to hide an ugly past.
So desperate to forget the stain on his hands. Too scared to show his vulnerability. Too scared of making a bad connection that poor little Enjin throws himself into isolation.
"I just find you so adorable." He said as he rubbed the back of the others hand against his cheek. Before giving it a gentle kiss.
Enjin didn't say anything back. And that just filled Tamsy's eyes with more adoration. The way there was no light in the usually so energetic man's eyes. Only emptiness.
It felt so good. Being in control. Enjin was beautiful in more ways than one. The way he doesn't trust easily yet has let Tamsy into his heart. How he reacted whenever his past was slightly brought up. He was so fragile inside when he tried to act so tough.
To Tamsy,
Enjin was the most pitiful soul to have ever existed.
He truly did love him. Despite his horrible driving and every other flaw. Even when he gets in the way of his plans- Tamsy will always love Enjin. His fragile puppet.
And it's maybe because of this genuine love that Enjin's instincts that would normally scream at him to keep from trusting anyone too much to let Tamsy get so close.
With one final kiss to his cheek, Tamsy laid beside Enjin; Nuzzling against the crook of his neck.
"You really want to sleep here?" Enjin finally spoke. Pulling the blanket over the two before wrapping a hand around his lover's waist.
"Hmm...I'll be able to sleep better." And that was the honest truth.
If the time ever came that he'll have to kill the man beside him then Tamsy will savour these moments until the end.
That's how deep his love ran. He's willing to save Enjin of his misery and guilt. The man will never have to see the destruction his junior will wreack. He will never have to blame himself for not stopping Rudo when he goes berserk. And he will never. stop loving Tamsy when his plans come to fruition.
What a comforting thought. Was the last thing on his mind before the lull of sleep pulled him in.
The next Tansy woke up, he was still in the safety of his partner's arm. He was about to fall back asleep when Enjin kissed his forehead.
"Sorry love, but today's the Doll-festival and I still got stuff to do." Tamsy groaned, forcing himself to sit up. Oh right. He had to go up to Sphere today as well. Works for him!
"You're going with Rudo and the rest of Akuta, right?" Enjin gave nod and got up from the bed. Tamsy watched from the bed as Enjin changed out of his clothes. He wasn't in his room, so he couldn't turn on the radio and jam to heavy metal to wake him up. Therefore this will have to do.
"I have time off again so I'll head to my room." He jumped off the bed and walked towards the window. Most of the Cleaners have no idea about their relationship. They prefer to keep that private. So Tamsy returning to his room via Enjin's window was not out of the ordinary.
Just as he was about to leave- Enjin suddenly called out to him.
"Hey, Tams!" He turned his head to see a weary expression on Enjin's face. He wasn't sure why he felt a pang of worry looking at it.
"Is something wrong?" Seriously spit it out already.
"It's just- I know this is gonna sound weird but-" Idiot hurry up.
"If I don't make it back, just know that I love ya and you're one of the best connections I've made."
Tamsy didn't want to push what Enjin meant. He stammered back the declaration and murmured a thank you before he returned back to his room.
Enjin's gut feelings were always right. And it's telling him shit is about to go down at the Doll-festival. He looked over to the nightstand and opened the lower drawer.
Inside- The Watch.
There was a time he almost died. Getting nearly hit by a car which was pretty ironic. He knows the feeling of near death. But he also knows the feeling of true care. So he doesn't pay mind the way Tamsy looks at him as he calculates whether or not Enjin's death will be beneficial for whatever reason is going on in the others head.
"Best connection ey? Yeh."
