Work Text:
“It’s a beautiful day. Did you want to go for a walk on the beach?” Lucy is a bit surprised when Tim asks but she jumps at the chance to go with him. She loves these quiet moments with him. She is now six months pregnant with their first baby and is exhausted all the time, but she is excited to go.
“Yeah, let me just change into something else real quick.” Lucy gives Tim a small kiss on the cheek and goes to their bedroom to change into different clothes. He knows what’s going to happen and he can’t stop smiling. He’s been waiting for this moment for so long. When Lucy told him she was pregnant, he cried. It was one of the best moments of their lives. Now he’s going to propose and all of his dreams are truly coming true.
Tim walks to their bedroom and watches Lucy change. She is dancing around the room and he can’t stop staring. “You’re staring.” She slips her pants off.
“Yes, I am staring at you, my favorite person. You’re beautiful and I love watching you. You’re absolutely glowing.” He comes over to where Lucy’s standing and pulls her in for a kiss. One hand lands on her belly, where he feels their baby’s kicks and the other lands on her back. “You really need to finish getting dressed.”
“Well, someone interrupted me.” She giggles and Tim slowly lets her go. “I’m almost done.”
Tim takes one more look at her before going to the living room. He puts his shoes on and triple checks that the ring is still in his pocket. He’s so nervous about this and really doesn’t want to screw this up. Lucy is everything good in his life and he just wants everything to go perfectly. “I’m ready to go.”
Tim looks over at Lucy and can’t stop staring at her. “You look incredible. Come on.” He grabs her hand and leads her to his truck. There’s a beach that he knows Lucy loves and it’s usually fairly quiet.
“You really drove all the way out here to walk with me on the beach?” They step onto the beach and Tim smiles.
“It’s quiet here and it’s one of our favorite places. We can take a nice walk. Just tell me if you need a break though.” Tim feels like his voice is starting to crack but he doesn’t think that Lucy notices. He has been very overprotective up to this point in her pregnancy but he’s also been so attentive. “Sometimes I take for granted how close we live to all of this.” Tim’s arm is wrapped around Lucy while they walk and her hand rests on her belly.
Lucy turns towards him. “To be honest, I’m surprised that you suggested this. I thought you hated the beach.” There’s teasing in her voice.
Tim shrugs. “Just because I hate the sand doesn’t mean that I can’t be out here appreciating the time with you. You love this and I love you. Seeing you smile and happy makes this all worth it.”
“It’s a good thing we’re alone with how much of a sap you are sometimes.” Tim shakes his head and he finally stops them to look at the waves and the sun setting in the background. “Do you ever have that feeling where a moment is just so perfect that you try to memorize it while experiencing it?”
“I think most of my moments with you are that way.” Lucy feels Tim kiss the side of her head. “I never want to forget any of my time with you.”
Tim knows that this is the moment and he wants it to be perfect. He goes down on one knee and he hears Lucy gasp. The smile on his face hasn’t left in so long and that’s because of this woman in front of him. “When we met, I had come to believe that the world was a really dark place.” He takes a breath before continuing. “And for the last eight years you have shown me just how much light there is. You’re kind, funny, beautiful, you light up every room you come into, and you make my life better. You’ve healed me in places that I didn’t even know were broken.” Tim can see Lucy’s eyes pooling with tears. “I promise that I’ll spend the rest of our lives doing everything that I can to be worthy of that love. You make me better and my life is so full with you in it. You make me feel loved even when I feel I don’t deserve it.” This is the moment. “So, Lucy Chen, will you marry me?” I did it. I managed to get my words out without stumbling.
“Yes.” Lucy leans down to kiss him and almost can’t get back up. “Yes, yes!” Tim helps her stand back up.
“Do you like it?” He asks nervously.
“I love it. It’s perfect.” He slides it on and it truly is the perfect ring. “It’s so beautiful.” She’s glad her fingers aren’t swollen yet so it fits.
“Just like you.” Tim murmurs and their lips crash together, the waves drowning out any noise. “I love you.”
“I love you.” Tim can’t believe that this is really happening. She really said yes. Lucy is going to be his wife. “You’re my safe space and my home, Tim.” Those words hit closer than he anticipated and he can feel himself becoming emotional. “You’re truly the most important person in my life.” Lucy has to compose herself. “We are really getting married.”
“We are.” Tim smiles and cups her cheek. He wipes a few tears away. “Are you okay?” He doesn’t know why he’s so worried.
“I’ve truly never been better.” Before Lucy can stop herself, she grabs Tim’s hand and he loves feeling her ring against it. There’s something else that catches his attention and he looks down to see a paper in his hand.
“Lucy.” His voice seems to falter when he does look. “Lucy, is this what I think it is?”
She opens her eyes and looks into his own. “I had my own surprise to show you for this walk but you beat me to it. Although getting engaged to you is one of the greatest moments of my life.” Tim looks in his hand and sees the piece of paper. “Those are the gender results of our baby. I wanted to surprise you here with them.”
Tim can’t stop himself from pulling Lucy in for a kiss. One hand gravitates towards her belly and he finds that he can’t stop his tears from falling. “We’re going to find out whether we’re having a son or a daughter.” He is so happy but so nervous. It’s a big moment.
“I know you were unsure about whether you wanted to know or not.” He stops her with another kiss.
“No, this is perfect. I want to know so we can prepare for them. I want to have a name picked out and make sure they know who their daddy is.” Tim says softly while cradling her cheek.
“I found out a few days ago when I was at my appointment and figured that I would find the perfect moment to tell you. Work got a little crazy this week too.” Lucy pulls out a new ultrasound picture as well and his fingers gently run over it. “They are growing so well and healthy.”
“I love you Lucy Chen, forever and always.” He wraps her in a hug and never wants to let go. They stay like that for a while listening to the waves and watching the sunset. “Can I open it?” Lucy nods and loves to see his excitement.
Tim’s eyes go wide when he reads it. “Oh my god.” He whispers. Lucy has her head resting against Tim’s chest. “We are having a baby girl. We’re having a daughter.” Lucy has tears spring to her eyes and Tim wraps her in a hug. “You have given me the things that I have dreamed about for so long.” He murmurs.
“This night has been incredible.” She has her head resting against his shoulder.
“The absolute perfect moments.” Tim whispers. He can’t stop picturing a little girl that looks exactly like Lucy. “I cannot believe that we are having a little girl.”
Lucy relaxes into Tim’s embrace. “It’s surreal.”
“Yes, it really is. I hope that this little girl looks like you and gives me the same sass.” Lucy giggles.
“And I want her to be a mini you.” She kisses his cheek. “Either way, this is going to be our greatest journey of all.”
“And I can’t wait for every single moment with you.” Tim presses a kiss to the side of her head.
Lucy hums in agreement. “We should just elope.”
“I think Angela and our other friends would kill us.” Tim knows that they may.
Lucy shrugs. “It’s our wedding and they are excited, I know, but I want that moment between us. I also want to be married before the baby is born, which is sooner rather than later.”
Tim smiles softly. “Then let’s elope. We can do a celebration after you have given birth and recovered. Our friends will understand and will deal with it.” Lucy yawns. “Now let me feed you and get you home.”
“You are the best fiancé in this world.” Tim helps her up and they walk back to his truck. “This truly is going to be my favorite adventure and we will have each other to get through it together.”
Tim is so happy and the love for Lucy continues to increase every day. “Always Luce, always.”
