Ficlets, drabbles and flash fiction from McEvers

Summary:

A collection of rapid-fire micro-fiction, 100-word drabbles, and sharp character vignettes set within the McEvers (est. 1973) universe.

Written to capture quick glimpses of institutional grit, dark humour, and the smaller, unrecorded moments between the gears of a larger machine.

• Format: Standalone micro-pieces (100–300 words per chapter).
• Updated regularly as the vault expands.
• For longer, fully realized narrative arcs in this universe, see the companion work: "Tales from McEvers (est 1973) , https://archiveofourown.org/works/84482186.

Chapter 1: Whos counting?

Summary:

How many of them? were there again, Aoto?

Chapter Text

9 sons, 9 demons” the preacher outside shouted.

9 holy sons of the Divine Emperor!”

The amplified sermon rolled down the street through static.

Inside the bar nobody reacted much.

Aoto kept reading the newslate. Eventually: “Thought there was twenty of em .”

Liam polished the same glass for a while. “Ah. yeah

Silence. Then:

Depends who’s counting.”
