It had been a week since Louis had met Lestat and the other man had captivated his mind since then. They had met at their local coffee shop and had somehow not noticed each other until then. Lestat, of course, had been the one to strike up a conversation with Louis. Louis hadn’t thought he looked particularly beautiful that day but Lestat seemed to think otherwise. Louis had his dark hair pinned back in a braid while he was wearing plain grey clothes.
Lestat had surprised Louis by approaching him and saying, “Have you ever been told you are quite…stunning?” His thick French accent tore through Louis’ ears and he almost melted on the spot. Louis had turned to face Lestat and answer him. “I have, yes. But only by people of no importance,” Louis had playfully bantered. Lestat chuckled. “Of course. Well, I would like to be someone of importance to you. Very much so.” Louis flushed a deep shade of red and finally got a good look at the man standing before him. The tall, blond man had striking grey-blue eyes that matched his outfit quite well. He was wearing a blue turtleneck and black slacks to match. The entirety of him was overwhelming and filled your senses immediately. Louis had to stop himself from reaching out and running his fingers through Lestat’s hair.
“Well, maybe you can be,” Louis said. Lestat smiled. “Good. Here is my phone number. Reach out if you’d like.” And as quickly as he had been in Louis’ sight, he was just as quickly gone.
Since that day, they had bantered over text a few times. Louis didn’t know if he could keep up his persona or if he should let Lestat see the real him. Would the man be disappointed in what he found?
Ding dong. The ringing of the doorbell broke Louis from his thoughts about Lestat. And now the man in question was here to pick him up! Louis quickly scrambled to gather his wallet and keys and soon opened the door. Beyond the door stood that same handsome face and blond haired man. Except now he was wearing a white blouse that left little to the imagination and the same black slacks. Louis suddenly felt embarrassed by how he had dressed. While he was by no means underdressed, he still didn’t look quite as ethereal as Lestat.
“Come, let us go!” Lestat cheered. Louis felt a smile creep up his face as Lestat became a welcome distraction from his own negative thoughts. Lestat had a natural way of doing that for Louis. Somehow, it seemed as though Lestat always knew whenever Louis was upset with himself and Louis would receive a message of kind words with a lot of emojis.
The walk to the cafe was easy and Louis had taken the route many times. Lestat seemed almost…nervous? If that was the right word. He seemed particularly eager to reach the coffee shop and walked quite quickly. Almost at an inhuman speed. Once they stopped at a crosswalk, Louis finally spoke.
“Are you feeling alright?” Lestat shifted his eyes quickly to Louis’ own. “Yes I am quite alright. I suppose I’m just…anxious to get the date going.” Louis smiled brightly at Lestat. “In my eyes, the date has already begun. And I am having a very pleasant time.” Lestat seemed to visibly relax at Louis’ words. Suddenly feeling confident, Louis reached out and gently grabbed one of Lestat’s hands with his own. “Is this alright?” Louis whispered. Lestat smiled softly and said, “Quite.” They walked the rest of the way to the cafe hand in hand.
Louis immediately felt overwhelmed. The cafe was busy and there were no empty tables to be seen. Lestat seemed to notice Louis’ anxious energy and quietly whispered in Louis’ ear, “We can leave whenever you’d like.” Louis nodded in response and said, “I think I’m okay. Let’s just get our drinks and go back to my apartment, okay?” Lestat nodded.
Once they were in the front of the line, Armand greeted them. He was familiar with both of them and knew both their orders by heart. “One black coffee and a chocolate frappuccino for you two?” They both nodded in sync. Armand let out a little laugh. “Quite the diverse drink choices you two have. One prefers black coffee while the other likes a sweet drink. Almost like you two were made for each other.” Louis flushed red at that and Lestat let out a laugh. “Yes, I believe so as well,” Lestat said. Louis became an even darker shade of red.
When their drinks were finally ready, they were out the door immediately. Lestat had his chocolate frappuccino and Louis had his black coffee. “Are you ready to go back to my apartment?” Louis asked eagerly. Lestat nodded in response, taking Louis’ unoccupied hand with his own.
Along the walk back, Lestat kept getting phone calls and ignoring them. Louis wondered who it could possibly be and why Lestat seemed so annoyed. Eventually, on the fifth time his phone rang, Lestat excused himself and picked up. He answered in angry French and eventually shut off his phone completely.
“I am so sorry about that. My brother keeps calling me. Telling me unimportant things.” Louis nodded. He tried hard to not focus on the fact that he found Lestat yelling in French extremely attractive.
Arriving at the apartment took a lot longer than Louis was used to. Lestat would stop to take photos of the small, everyday things that Louis usually saw. Louis found it incredibly endearing. However, once they did finally arrive at the apartment, Louis suddenly felt nervous. He would have an incredibly attractive man in his apartment. What if his apartment wasn’t as clean as last night? What if Lestat decided to leave early because Louis was boring? What if-
Lestat cut off Louis’ train of thoughts with a simple back rub. “Are you alright?” Louis relaxed and finally said, “Yes. I was just overthinking things. Quite silly of me.” Lestat seemed concerned but did not press the subject further.
Once inside the apartment, Louis and Lestat took seats on the couch facing each other. Lestat asked Louis about his profession and life while Louis asked Lestat about his family and musical inspirations. It was an almost perfect date.
As Lestat began packing up his things to leave, Louis finally found bravery within himself and asked, “Can I give you a farewell kiss?” Lestat grinned ear to ear. “Yes of course.” Louis leaned in and kissed Lestat on the cheek. Lestat frowned. “You missed.” Louis seemed confused. Did Lestat want Louis to kiss him on the lips? “My apologies. I misunderstood. May I try again?” Lestat nodded and smiled as Louis leaned in to kiss him on the lips. It was an almost perfect kiss except Lestat kept smiling and eventually Louis did too so their teeth were clacking together. It was Louis’ best first kiss.
Eventually, Lestat had to leave but there was a promise of something more, something eternal between them. And Louis couldn’t wait for it.
