We're Just Two Men As God Had Made Us

Summary:

Veronica "Ron" Weasley comes to Hogwarts as a rough tomboy. Harriet "Harry" Potter comes to Hogwarts as a skinny girl, and the whole Wizarding World knows her name. But what if neither of them are as it seems?

Notes:

Title from a MCR song: You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison.

Also, Draco's deadname is kind of an Owl House reference? Just wanted to point that out.

Chapter Text

Ron stopped in his tracks. “Harry, I have something to tell you.”

Harry stared at Ron. “What?”

“I’m pregnant.”

ALMOST SEVEN YEARS AGO

Veronica “Ron” Weasley was a small child with bright red hair. She had five brothers, and one sister, all with the same hair. But she always felt like more of a boy than a girl. But of course, a girl couldn’t become a boy! But she thought about it. A lot. And she had recently developed a crush on a girl in her Muggle school. Girls can’t like girls! She thought. But if I’m a boy, could I like a girl?

She boarded the Hogwarts train, and met this girl named Harriet Potter. Of course she had heard of her, the entire Wizarding World had heard of her! The first thing Harriet told Ron was that she went by Harry.  Ron was grateful another girl went by a boyish nickname. She asked about Harry scar, and chatted with her for a bit before a girl walked over to them.

“Oh, you’re hanging out with her, Potter? You’re the famous child who survived You-Know-Who, and you hang out with the wrong sort. I’m Malfoy, Edasich Malfoy, but you can call me Eda.”

Harry smirked. “I think I can know who to hang out with, Eda. Thanks.”

Eda walked away with her two ‘goons’, Crabbe and Goyle, her face red. “Bloody hell, Harry! You did it, mate!”

“Yeah? I stood up to bullies all the time. Most of ‘em were boys, but I kicked their asses.”

Another person came up to Harry. “I’ve got to do somethin’ bout all this attention,” whispered Harry to Ron. Ron snickered.

“My name is Hermione Granger,” they announced. “I’ve got to ask you, you’re really the Girl Who-”

“You look kinda like a boy,” Ron commented.

Hermione frowned. “Well, you look kinda like a girl!” She scoffed and walked away.

Ron was easily mistaken for a boy, with her short hair and boy clothes (hand-me-downs from her older brothers), but she didn’t mind it. But the way Hermione called her a girl? It felt like an insult.

“Mate, she called you a boy!” Harry sounded slightly annoyed.

“Yeah? I get called a boy a lot, due to…y’know…” Ron gestured a hand over her boy.

“Yeah…” Harry seemed sad, and looked out the window for the remainder of the ride.

* * *

They were finally at Hogwarts! All the first-years got sorted into houses. Harry went before Ron, and it caused quite a ruckus when she went up, causing lots of cheers when she was sorted into Gryffindor.

Then Ron was sorted into Gryffindor. “YES, mate, I’m so happy!”

Thankfully, Eda was sorted into Slytherin, but that girl Hermione was sorted into Gryffindor too. Harry and Ron were annoyed to have to share a dorm with her.

Hermione immediately put up a flag that consisted of pink, blue, and white.

“What’s that flag, Germany?” Ron asked. Harry laughed.

“Ugh, stop behaving like boys! Speaking of, though, this is the transgender flag. It means you were born as one gender, but now are another. Like I was a boy, but now I’m a girl.”

Ron and Harry looked at each other. Harry had a weird look on her face, like That’s a thing?, and Ron looked shocked. Girls can’t turn into boys. Girls can’t turn into boys. But they can? She thought, basically questioning her entire life.

“Why do you two look so shocked? Don’t have a trans epiphany on me, it’s the first bloody day of school. God.”

Ron looked down at herself, refusing to look at Harry. They both couldn’t believe this thing existed…

But obviously, Ron wasn’t a boy.

Right?
