Comfort Protocol

Summary:

After one awful week of stress, all you want is disappear for a while. Luckily for you, Clark Kent has a solution.

Work Text:

Metropolis outside Clark's apartment glowed beneath the evening rain and traffic was loud several stories below. You wished you had the ability to silence the world right now. This week had been just exhausting. Thank goodness it was the weekend, maybe a couple days away from everyone would make you feel better.

Not everyone... you came to your boyfriend's apartment for comfort. If anyone could lift your spirits, it was Clark Kent. His sweet farm boy nature was a breathe of fresh air compared to rude city folk.

When Clark finally came home, he called your name the second he stepped through the front door. No response.

Using his x-ray vision, he spotted you sitting on the bathroom floor with your knees pulled against your chest. He knocked on the door to let you know he was there. "Is it okay for me to come in?" At hearing a soft 'yes' he walked in.

You were still in your work clothes. Clark lowered himself onto the fall beside you, putting his back against the sink base cabinet. He put his arm around your shoulders, giving it a soft squeeze. "Hey," he murmured. "What's going on?"

"It's just one of those days, you know. Honestly this entire week has been bad." You lifted your head to look at him. "Everyone has been really annoying. Just want to get away from those people."

"I'm sorry work hasn't been great lately. Do you need me to pop in as Superman? Give them a lesson on being appreciate people?" Seeing his goofy, sincere smile made your heart soar. You wouldn't have minded him doing that but, the last thing you wanted to do was take his time away from real dangers.

"No, no. You don't need to do that but thank you. I just want to take my mind off work for the next couple days."

His pulled you into his body to wrap his arms around you. Slowly swaying you back and forth which gave you some level of comfort. You both stayed in this position for a while till Clark said "Do you want to build a pillow fort with me?"

You looked up at him in confusion.

"When I was a kid, my dad and I would make one when I was having a bad day. It was like a little safe haven where I could just get away from the world. Decorated it with my favorite things to make it more special." He gave you a soft smile. "We could do that if you're up for it."

It sounded fun. Just even thinking about what they could use to build it already made you forget about your shitty week. Plus seeing Clark's eager smile was the final push to agree to the project.

The fort was built in the living room. You two moved the coffee table away to have room for building. It was already night by the time it was complete, making it the prefect time to light it up. The opening was facing the television set, the plan for the night was watching a movie. A nice comedy to help unwind. Cuddled together under a big blanket, with food and drinks ready to go.

After the film was over, it was close to midnight. "Do you want to go to bed or sleep here?"

"Let's stay here. It's already a bed anyway," you looked up at the lights shining around the fort. "Let's sleep here tonight." Clark smiled at your serene expression, he was just glad your mood had lightened.

He took out his phone to play some soft classical music. Rubbing slow circles against your back patiently while the apartment settled into quiet around both of you.

"Tell a story about your home in Smallville."

This made him laugh, Clark always liked talking about his parents. You listened to him intently about a time he took Pa Kent flying. Poor guy was terrified, you understood the feeling too. When you first went flying, your stomach couldn't handle it. Just hearing about Ma and Pa Kent made you excited to meet them someday.

Between Clark’s soothing voice, the warmth of the blankets, and his hand moving gently across your back, it was too easy for you to start falling asleep. He could see you battling to stay awake.

Clark kissed your forehead. "Alright. You need rest," he whispered.

"Noooo. I w-w-want to keep hear the sto--"

He looked down to see your eyes were closed and a bit of drool was coming out of your mouth. He pulled you closer to his body, your head resting on his chest. Clark stayed awake a while longer, listening to Bach. Thankful that nothing disastrous was happening in Metropolis that needed his help. It was nice to have this special moment with you.
