Nesting was a curious habit of omegas: it started before heat and could be just as annoying for them. For some, it was even worse.
So, whenever Susano’o noticed that his clothes would suddenly begin to disappear, he knew he needed to find Soji.
The scent of their mate helped omegas to calm down, after all. So, when their nesting period started, they’d snatch anything that had their alpha’s scent.
The problem was that, despite this need, some omegas hated to be seen completely overwhelmed by fever. Particularly for omegas that had died of an illness that put them through similar symptoms.
And that was the case with Soji…
“He said he was going to train with Mr.Kondo and the rest of the Shinsengumi“ Skalmold, being a beta, wouldn’t have noticed the change in Soji’s scent “so I didn’t think much, I’m sorry”
“It’s all right, you know he prefers to hide “ but he wanted to make sure his mate was all right “can you get some water for him, please ?”
The Valkyrie smiled and nodded, she had seen the boy’s memories more than once.
Being an alpha, however, made things easier for the god: as soon as he discovered the catmint scent, he knew he was on the right track. (of course, the cats that kept following his omega being suspiciously close helped a bit)
The worst part about nesting were the fevers. Not only it meant his heat was coming, but it reminded him too much of the sickness that had costed him his life…
The fact he felt too weak to even stand didn’t help either, and that was without the chills and having to sweat all day. At least during his heats, he could take out everything by training with the Shinsengumi or telling Susano’o to fight with him, but during nesting ? He couldn’t even bear to stand up or even tie his hair so it wouldn’t fall to his face.
He hated it. He felt like he was going to die once again, if only it was the lack of the annoying coughs full of his blood that spared him from reviving the whole thing.
And he hated being seen like that. It never fully bothered him to be an omega, no one ever talked about it because he’d be able to beat them anyways, but the nestings…he could have gone without them. He hated it, he hated feeling so weak that others had to see him in such a pitiful state. So, when the first hints of it started to show, he’d always make sure to hide away.
He’d tried to sneak around and steal some of Susano’o’s clothes, hoping he wouldn’t notice. It wasn’t that he didn’t like being around the god: the opposite, he felt happy resting of the blue haired deity’s strong arms, but still, to imagine how pitiful he must look…The perks of being smaller than most people was that he could do a small nest, and it would be harder to find.
He just wanted to sleep, and the smell of rain was always quite the comfort to him…
Susano’o had to crouch to fit inside the nest: Soji was around half of his height if he stood on his toes, so that hadn’t been such a surprise. What was one was just how many clothes the omega had managed to bring inside, some he hadn’t even noticed had gone missing in the first place.
Soji had covered himself with one of god’s kimonos, holding it like a blanket. His face was all red due to the heat that had taken over his body, and he wasn’t even wearing his brown hair in a ponytail like he usually did: probably too tired to even try to properly tie it. He’d say the boy looked adorable, but Soji wasn’t fond of being called like that.
The god thought he was asleep, seeing his eyes were closed.
But the boy whined in pain. The god gently pet his hair, moving it to the side
“Susano’o?” Soji mumbled, his voice sounding far weaker than it should.
Long ago, when the omega had been about to die, it had been him who helped him back unto his bed, as he wasn’t even able to stand up anymore. Not that he’d ever told Soji in the first place... it was a sight that still hurt his heart, even if back then they didn’t even know each other, as he had promised his sister not to interfere with humans
But now that the boy was living in the afterlife….
“I’m here, dear” Susano’o kissed his forehead gently
“Let’s go and fight…” he mumbled, smiling weakly “tell Skamold that I’m feeling better”
Even when the fever grew stronger, Soji still wasn’t quite happy with just staying to rest. His scent was just as intoxicating, and for a moment, he was tempted to say yes…
But the boy was in no condition to hold a sword, much less fight.
“Sleep” the god say softly “I’ll stay with you” it wasn’t quite easy to be able to fit in there. Half his body was outside the nest, but he wasn’t going to leave his mate alone.
Soji snuggled against him. Despite how eager he was to fight, the scent of the god was able to ease him, an advantage of the god having bonded with him. Wrapping his arms around the omega, Susano’o made sure he got a good sleep.
