Work Text:
It was a dark night, or that what’s she’s assuming since it’s not like she knows, she’s inside the atelier. It was way past the bed time she was given by her master, but she couldn’t just sleep! Not before she figured out this spell, she doesn’t know what she was doing wrong but she needs to figure it out before sleeping.
When she was just about to reach her goal with the drawing, she realised she drew something wrong and the spell failed. In anger, Agott slammed her small fists into her desk, throwing most of the things on it into the floor. She huffed in anger, looking around to make sure Coco hadn’t emerged from her room. The last thing Agott wanted was to wake the green haired girl up. She'll definitely offer her help, though it’s appreciated but that’s the last thing she needs right now.
The girl sighs as her tummy grumbles, right, she hadn’t joined them at lunch today. Grabbing her pen and book she walked towards the kitchen to grab herself something to eat. As she walked, she held the book near her face, trying to think about what exactly went wrong with her spell. Unbeknownst to her, Brush buddy was on the floor, and the girl stumbled when her foot slipped because of the pet, she yelped as she tripped, but at the last second she started to float.
“Now isn’t it way past yer bedtime?” Asked the watchful eye of the atelier, He had a floating spell in hand in the middle of the night, how cool is he?! That’s the kind of witch she aspires to be, like master Olruggio.
“Thank you, Master Olruggio, for not letting me fall.” Muttered the dark haired girl avoiding eye contact with the other witch. Said other witch eyed her book.
“Up training, eh? How many times did I tell you to rest well, ya don’t want to end up like lil’ ol’ me.” He gently scolded while moving the paper which held the floating spell, causing Agott to float around at his command. The little girl was flying like a fairy, that came into her mind so she giggled.
“Master, put me down! You’ll wake the others!” Whisper yelled Agott, Causing her Master to grin before making her float high up then undoing the spell, causing her to drop hard, but her Master Olly caught her into his arms immediately. Both letting out a “huff” at the contact.
“Well, lemme make you somethin’ to feast on, and you tell me what spell you’re making so I could help you.” He seated her at the table, and he walked towards the huge soup pot that Master Qifrey made.
“I don’t want to do the spells anymore today.” She muttered, as Olruggio filled up two bowls of soup. Tilting his head so he’s looking at her.
“You sure you don’t want my help? It’s okay for a witch to-“
“Yes, I want to eat then rest, a witch must rest fully so she could give her best.” Agott said, taking the bowl from Olruggio.
“Well said, little one.” The bearded man said so softly, sitting across from her. The two ate in silence.
“Master, why did you become a watchful eye? You’re one of the best witches, I heard. So why come and do your duty at this atelier? Couldn’t you be much more?” Agott asked after taking her last sip of the soup.
Olruggio blinked, to tell her that he’s here because his friend was too and Olruggio couldn’t fathom the thought of separating from him, He was no good example for loyalty since he takes it too far. That was no advice to be given to a kid, a kid like Agott nonetheless. “I’d like to see witches grow and bloom into something more, seeing the passion and determination of children to become something more that fulfills me.”
“Then why didn’t you become a teacher and take your own apprentices?” Sharp as always, Agott was too smart for her own good.
“Am I not a master already?” Olruggio teased her, taking the bowls and heading to clean them.
“Yeah- you are…but I meant-“
“It’s just less responsibility like that.”
“But you’re more responsible than master Qifrey…how do your words make sense?”
Touché, thought Olruggio.
“Sometimes people do stuff they don’t really understand why they did it. But what I know is that I’d rather be nowhere in this world…nowhere but here.” He turned around to face the kid, tilting down slightly to boop her nose. “With you, and the others.” And Agott’s eye brightened, and he lived for the happiness of the kids under his wings.
“Come on, let’s get you to sleep.”
“Can I hang out in your room?” The kid blurted out then immediately became red and started stammering apologies.
“Sure, come on.” He signaled for her to walk by his side and she did get up and follow him, grabbing the skirt of his outfit. Even with her maturity for her age she’s still a child, and he feels so happy when she does act like one. He ruffles her hair.
His room was a mess between a bedroom and a workplace, it had ink, paper and random tools, with the bed on the side, tied to the wall and to see all of this mess you’ll have to climb the brick stairway. And that was exactly what Agott and Olruggio were doing.
“Alright, feel free to look but don’t touch anything, it might be dangerous.” He said sitting at his desk, grabbing a pen and starting to try to make something new. Meanwhile Agott just sat behind him.
After a while, he suddenly remembered the kid was still there. Shit he tends to forget everything around him when he works! He immediately draws a spell, a silly one to brighten the kid. “Oi, Agott, look at th-“ He turned around and the kid was in slumber, she always had worried him too much. She often overworked herself. She’s always been too hard on herself… and she’s just a kid and his heart aches for it. At the very least he’s an adult she trusts enough to be vulnerable around, to act like a kid around. And for now that’s enough for him. He got up, carrying the girl into his bed, making sure she was in a comfortable position, the comfiest pillow below her head, and tucked with two blankets to make sure she was warm.
After tucking her in, he went back to the desk, drawing for hours before tiring himself out and dropping asleep on his desk.
—
“Olruggio! Emergency! Emergency!!” And Olruggio immediately woke up, looking at Qifrey who jus stormed into his room
“What!? What is it!?” Olruggio immediately got up running down the stairs to the white haired man.
“Master, what’s going on!” Agott emerged from the bed and followed Olruggio down the stairs to meet her master. And Qifrey let out a huge sigh of relief.
“Goodness, Agott, you had me worried sick. And the girls too, they’re all around looking for you. They woke up and found you nowhere.” Agott looked embarrassed, she wasn’t even planning on sleeping there she just did!!
“Sorry, Master Qifrey, for worrying you and Master Olruggio for-“
“None of that.” He cut her off by putting a hand on her head.
“You’re welcome to rest here anytime you want, when you need space from anything just come here, yeah?” Agott shyly nodded, causing her two masters to smile.
“Off you go then, kid.” And with that Agott left the room. Leaving the two men alone. Qifrey had an almost..smug smile on his face.
“What is it?” Olruggio asked gruffly.
“You’ve grown soft, Olly.” He said in a teasing way, walking to leave the room.
“I have not!!” Yelled Olruggio. He heard the other man’s chuckle from outside the room.
Olruggio grumbled before walking back to his desk. He looked at the drawing of the spell he made for Agott to make her feel better. He slammed his head on the desk.
He really had grown soft…
