Work Text:
The soundproofing in the dressing rooms on set was always terrible, but Jinsol pressed Yoona against the door and kissed her anyway.
The staff walking around and the clanking of equipment outside were completely audible. Occasionally, someone would call out through the door.
“Yoona-ssi, twenty minutes until the pickup shots.”
“Got it.”
Yoona responded without a single hint of awkwardness, acting as if she were not the one currently pinned between the door and Jinsol with her shirt already pulled out of her waistband.
“You’re out of your mind.” Only when the footsteps faded did Yoona glare at Jinsol, dropping her voice real low.
Jinsol ignored the scolding, nuzzling her nose against Yoona’s neck and rubbing the skin that was still warm from the kiss.
“Are you even listening to me?” Yoona shoved her shoulders, though she used so little force it felt like she was just dusting them off.
“I heard you.” Jinsol mumbled, her lips right above Yoona’s collarbone, practically grinding every word into her skin. “You said I’m crazy.”
“Then why aren’t you stopping?”
“Don’t wanna.”
Yoona let out a helpless sigh and switched from pushing her away to just resting her hand on Jinsol’s shoulder, squeezing the muscles there—rock hard. Jinsol had been hitting the gym like crazy lately because she was about to start an action film project.
“Didn’t sleep well last night?” Yoona changed the subject.
“Only got four hours.” Jinsol replied. Faint dark circles were visible under her eyes when she looked up, but her gaze remained bright. “Last night’s night shoot wrapped at one. I finished showering by two then had to get up at six to run lines.”
“And you still have the energy to mess around here?”
“I always have energy when I see you.”
Yoona shot her a look, her mouth twitching like she was about to say something sarcastic, but she just sighed and smoothed out Jinsol’s collar.
“Come over to my place after work tonight. There’s food in the fridge. Heat it up yourself. I’ll probably be home an hour later than you.”
“Is that you worrying about my dinner?”
“I’m worrying about my food getting wasted.”
“My cooking’s not that bad.”
“Last time you tried to fry one egg, my kitchen got so smokey you almost set off the fire alarm.”
“That was the pan’s fault, not mine.”
“That pan never gave anyone else problems.”
Realizing she lost the argument, Jinsol quickly switched tactics. She leaned close and rubbed her cheek against Yoona’s.
“Yoona Yoona Yoona.”
“Drop that move.” Yoona narrowed her eyes at Jinsol. The more she looked at her, the more she compared Jinsol to Bomie at home, who loved using cuteness to smooth things over.
“I’ll actually be serious about reheating this time.”
“That’s what you say every time.”
“So… do you still want me to come over or not?”
“Just come.”
Jinsol broke into a huge grin. She pulled back a little to help Yoona tuck the shirt back into her pants, the same shirt she’d pulled out herself.
“Your hair is a mess too.” She smoothed back the loose strands. “If you walk out like that, people will think we were fighting in here.”
“We were fighting.” Yoona let her fix the hair but refused to lose the verbal battle. “Everyone on set knows we don’t get along. It’s not like it’d be weird if we really did throw down.”
“What about this then?” Jinsol pointed at her own lip and gave Yoona’s slightly swollen lower lip a meaningful look.
Yoona pressed her lips together and glared at her. She walked over to the wall mirror to check herself. Once she confirmed her face looked normal, she pulled the door open and stepped out. Jinsol stayed back a bit longer before leaving.
The afternoon shoot was at a coffee shop. This was the first real confrontation scene between Jinsol’s character and Yoona’s character. The dialogue were sharp, and the scene demanded heavy emotional depth.
The moment the director called action, Jinsol locked into character. Her tone was biting, but her eyes carried a stubborn, wounded vulnerability. She nailed the complex emotion the director wanted.
Yoona’s character was more low-key, not someone who wears her heart on her sleeve, but she still had to show the inner conflict through tiny changes in her face.
“Cut!” The director popped out from behind the monitor. “Great, that’s a wrap on this scene. You two, the eye contact just now was fantastic. Keep that exact energy going.”
Jinsol snapped right out of character, smiled warmly at the director for the compliment and quickly shot a glance toward Yoona, who was already holding her script, reviewing the next scene.
“Yoona.” Jinsol stood close enough to keep her voice down so only the two of them could hear. “You did great just now.”
“Don’t need your feedback.” Yoona didn’t even bother looking up.
“I’m being serious.”
“So am I.”
Praising someone as good as Yoona was kinda pointless. Jinsol was totally used to getting shot down like this by now. Instead of feeling hurt, she had to fight back a laugh as she walked back to her spot.
As she passed Jiwoo, she overheard her whispering to her assistant.
“Those two must’ve been enemies in a past life or something. Their chemistry is incredible but still can’t stand each other. So weird.”
Jinsol pretended not to hear and kept walking, thinking whatever, I get to cuddle her tonight. Just hang in there a little longer.
During a break, Jinsol was scrolling on her phone when Lily came over and tapped her shoulder with a big smile, holding a cup of coffee.
“The way you did that last scene was different from rehearsal.”
Even though Lily lived abroad for a long time, her Korean was flawless. She was playing a supporting character in this film. Lily was super friendly, got along with everyone on set, and people really loved teasing her.
Jinsol put her phone away and smiled back. “I made a quick adjustment. The director thought it worked well too.”
“I thought it was great too.” Lily agreed. “Your improvisations are always so solid.”
“Thanks.” Getting a compliment from someone else made Jinsol happy and a little shy.
After chatting for a bit, Lily brought up a get-together next week. She got so excited talking about it that she leaned over laughing, briefly resting her head on Jinsol’s shoulder. The contact lasted barely a second or two before she sat right back up.
Suddenly there was a loud noise from outside, followed by the steady, sharp clicking of heels hitting the floor.
Jinsol glanced toward the door, and Lily paused to look too. But there was nothing there, so Lily kept talking, but Jinsol wasn’t listening anymore. She offered a few distracted responses, made an excuse to step out, but the hallway was empty.
Wrapping up took an hour longer than scheduled. Jinsol left first, as usual, waiting in the parking lot until Yoona finished so they could head back together.
Yoona didn’t even ask why Jinsol hadn’t gone to her place first since it wasn’t the first time she’d gone off plan. She pulled the car door open, tossed her bag into the back seat, and leaned against the headrest with her eyes closed.
“Tired?” Jinsol started the engine.
“Yeah.”
“Today’s scenes were pretty heavy emotionally. Your eyes are all puffy.”
“Do I look ugly?”
“A little.”
Yoona snapped her eyes open to glare at her.
Jinsol quickly waved her hands with an oops smile. “Kidding. You always look hot.”
Yoona snorted a laugh, curled up in her seat, and turned to watch the night scenery out the window. Seoul winters were freezing. Everyone on the street was bundled up in thick padded jackets, hurrying along with their necks tucked in.
“Want to grab something to eat?” Jinsol asked.
“Didn’t we say we were going to reheat the food at my place?”
“Well yes but if you want something else we can buy it on the way.”
Yoona thought about it for a moment. “Let’s get some spicy rice cakes. I’m suddenly craving them.”
“Spicy again?” Jinsol wrinkled her nose. She had a terrible tolerance for spice, and every time she ate spicy food with Yoona, she needed a giant bottle of water nearby. “Last time you ate those spicy chicken noodles, I only took one bite and my lips were swollen for half an hour.”
“That’s because you’re weak.”
“My taste buds are perfectly normal.”
“You just can’t handle spice. Admit it.”
Jinsol pouted and turned at the intersection toward their usual snack shop. Their spicy rice cake sauce was super rich and the rice cakes were nice and chewy. Yoona always ordered an extra serving of fish cakes.
Yoona got out to buy the food while Jinsol waited in the car. She watched Yoona stand at the shop counter in her long black padded jacket, her hair not even styled, all wild in the wind, and she still looked ridiculously gorgeous. The shop owner knew Yoona and chatted with her cheerfully while packing the food. Yoona leaned down a bit to listen, nodding, pointing at the rice cakes and then at the fish cakes next to them.
Watching this scene, a strange, indefinable feeling welled up inside Jinsol. She wanted to get out of the car and stand right beside Yoona. She wanted people to know they were together. If the owner asked. “Are you here with a friend?” She wanted to say. “No, she’s my girlfriend.”
But she couldn’t. So she just sat in the car, watching Yoona carry the bag back inside, bringing a blast of cold air and the heavy scent of spicy sauce with her.
“Smells so good already.” Jinsol sniffed, then sneezed. “Kinda strong though.”
“Crack the window a little.”
“It’s too cold for that.”
“Then deal with it.”
Jinsol pouted and just dealt with it.
Once they arrived at Yoona’s apartment, Jinsol headed to the kitchen to reheat the food while Yoona went to shower first. When Yoona walked into the kitchen afterward, she found Jinsol just standing there staring at the microwave.
“What’s wrong?”
“I don’t know how many minutes to set it for.”
Yoona stepped up to press a few buttons, and the microwave started humming. As she turned to grab the bowls and chopsticks, Jinsol caught her firmly by the wrist.
“Your hair’s still dripping.” She frowned.
“It’ll dry.”
“You will catch a cold.”
Jinsol pulled a dry towel out of a nearby drawer. This spot had essentially become her dedicated space in Yoona’s home. She knew where the towels were, where the remote control lived, and which shelf in the fridge door Yoona kept the hot sauce.
She threw the towel over Yoona’s head and started drying her hair. Yoona just let her do her thing.
“Your hands are freezing.” Yoona noted.
“I just washed the vegetables with cold water.”
“It’s the middle of winter. Why would you use cold water? Are you dumb?”
“The water heater wasn’t finished and I was in a hurry.”
Yoona sighed, taking Jinsol’s hands in her own palms to warm them up. With Jinsol’s hands enclosed in Yoona’s warmth and the towel still draped over Yoona’s head, they just stood there facing each other.
“Yoona.” Jinsol called out. “At the studio today, were you upset when you saw me talking to Lily?”
Yoona paused for a split second then kept rubbing Jinsol’s fingers. “Why would I be upset.”
“Because every time you see me talking to someone else a bit too much, you get way more forward than usual when we get home.”
Yoona kept her head down, her voice totally flat. “You are overthinking.”
“Last time Kyujin came to visit the set, I talked to her for a while and that night you—”
“Jinsol.”
Yoona cut her off mid-sentence, her ears turning bright red. Jinsol felt a surge of secret joy. She knew Yoona would never admit to being jealous, but her physical reactions never lied. On the way from the parking, Yoona had been way quieter than usual. In the car, she had leaned toward the other window, not doing her usual thing of accidentally-on-purpose moving closer.
“Lily was just talking to me about the gathering next week.” Jinsol voluntarily spilled. “Haewon’s putting it together. She invited Lily, Jiwoo, Kyujin, and me. That’s it. You know what she’s like. She’s friendly with everyone. She just laughed and leaned against me for a second while we were talking, she probably didn’t even realize she did it.”
Yoona remained silent. She pulled her hands away from Jinsol’s and turned around to open the microwave.
“The food is ready.”
Jinsol watched her back and knew that pushing this any further would just piss Yoona off, so she smartly changed the subject.
“You must be very hungry. I noticed you barely ate lunch.”
“I had two bites.”
“Not to your liking?”
“Too greasy. Couldn’t swallow it.”
“Want some soup before the rice? I saw kimchi soup stuff in your fridge.”
“Let’s just eat, don’t complicate things.” It was late and she didn’t want Jinsol doing more work.
The rice cake sauce was glossy and bright red, coating the thick, chewy pieces heavily, topped with a sprinkle of sesame seeds and chopped green onions. Yoona picked up a piece of fish cake, blew on it a few times, and popped it into her mouth, narrowing her eyes in satisfaction.
Even though she knew it would burn, Jinsol still challenged herself by picking up a piece of rice cake and taking a bite. The spice exploded in her mouth quickly, making her eyes water.
“Water, water, water—” She choked out, scrambling to grab the glass next to her.
Yoona pushed the glass closer, laughing out loud at the sight of her tearing up from the spice.
“Just don’t eat it if you can’t handle it.”
“But I want to eat with you.”
“There are other things.”
“Then it doesn’t feel like we are sharing a meal.”
Yoona watched her sniffle and force herself to keep eating the rice cake, and her heart just melted. She scooped half of the plain rice from her bowl into Jinsol’s.
“Mix it with the rice, it will cut the spice.”
Jinsol did and found it much better. She looked up at Yoona and smiled, her eyes crinkling shut.
“You’re so good to me.”
“This is good? Your standards are pretty low.”
“It’s still good.”
After dinner, they washed the dishes together because Jinsol insisted on helping, even though Yoona told her she could go rest. She hummed a tune while washing, unbothered by the running water and the soap suds splashing onto her sleeves.
“By the way, are you going to Haewon’s party? She probably invited you, right?”
“She did.” Yoona replied, throwing the question back. “Do you want me to go?”
Jinsol turned off the tap after rinsing the last bowl. She wiped her hands on the apron before leaning against the sink to face Yoona.
“I want.” Jinsol said. “But I know that if you go, we’ll have to pretend we’re not close again.”
“We aren’t close.”
Jinsol choked on a laugh at the comment. “Right, we aren’t close. I just happen to know your door password, I know what’s in your fridge, I’ve seen every inch of your body, and when you sleep you—”
“Fine.” Yoona cut her off, her ears flushing red again. “I’ll go, okay?”
Jinsol grinned in victory. Then a sudden silence fell between them. Whatever she was thinking, Jinsol slowly closed the distance, planting both hands on the doorframe behind Yoona, caging her in.
“Seol Yoona.”
Yoona looked up at her. She knew that whenever Jinsol used her full name, whatever came next was usually inappropriate, but that impropriety always carried an underlying warmth that made her go soft.
“You’re so freaking cute.”
“Are you crazy?”
“I’m serious.” Jinsol leaned in a little closer. “You obviously care about who I talk to, but you won’t admit it. You obviously want me to come over, but you always say up to you. You obviously love it when I kiss you, but you always call me crazy… How many times have you called me crazy without actually pushing me away?
Yoona stayed quiet under Jinsol’s exposure. It was true, whenever she scolded Jinsol for being crazy, she never actually pushed her away.
“Nothing left to say, right? Ouch ouch, that hurts, ah...” Jinsol smirked proudly, only to have Yoona grab both her cheeks and squish them.
“You’re so damn annoying.”
“You love this annoying person anyway.”
Yoona sighed and stood on her tiptoes to kiss her.
Her lips went from cool to warm from the kiss, and Jinsol’s breathing got all shaky. They drifted away from the kitchen doorway, moving into the living room, then down onto the sofa. By the time Yoona was pinned against the couch cushions, she was already reaching up to undo the top button of Jinsol’s shirt.
Jinsol grabbed her hand, breathing hard. “Why are you so forward today?”
Yoona’s beautiful eyes looking at her were a mix of desire and softness and something carefully held back.
“When you were talking to Lily today.” Yoona said softly, tracing a circle on Jinsol’s collarbone. “She rested her head on your shoulder.”
“So you were jealous after all.”
“I’m not jealous.” Yoona looked away, pressing her lips together. “I know... she’s like that with everyone. It wasn’t personal. But seeing it still made me uncomfortable. I know it’s stupid, she just leaned on you for a second, it’s no big deal. But I just—”
She didn’t get to finish because Jinsol kissed her.
“I know.” Jinsol touched her forehead to Yoona’s. “You don’t have to explain. I get it.”
“What do you even get?”
“I just get it, I just get it.” Jinsol chuckled. “But have I ever told you that you look hot when you’re jealous?”
She barely got the words out before Yoona pinched the hell out of her.
“Vicious.” Jinsol whimpered, burying her face into the crook of Yoona’s neck. “ But you gotta know, Lily and I are just regular coworkers. With you, I’m—”
“You’re what?”
Jinsol pulled back to look into her eyes, totally serious in a way that didn’t match her usual playful self. “With you, I’m in love. I only have eyes for you. When someone else touches me, I don’t feel a single thing. But the second you even frown, I freak out.”
“Since when did you get so smooth-tongued?” Yoona pressed Jinsol’s head back down into her shoulder and ran her fingers through Jinsol’s short hair.
“I learned it from you.”
“I never taught you this.”
“You don’t need to say anything. You just have to stand there and I already know what to say.”
There was a quiet moment that they both just soaked in. Yoona kept threading her fingers through Jinsol’s hair, deep in thought.
“Sol, do you know why I have never pushed you away?”
Jinsol looked up, waiting for her.
“Because from day one, I never once thought about pushing you away.”
Those words acted like a key, unlocking a door that Jinsol had been too afraid to approach for a long time.
“Say that again.” Jinsol’s voice shook slightly.
“No.”
“Yoona.”
“I said no.”
Jinsol took a deep breath, using every ounce of self-control to avoid crushing Yoona in a tight embrace. She simply rested her forehead against Yoona’s shoulder, her shoulders trembling slightly.
“Are you crying?” Yoona asked softly, rubbing the back of Jinsol’s neck.
“No.” Jinsol’s voice came out tiny.
Yoona didn’t press further. She kept her hand at the back of Jinsol’s neck, gently smoothing her hair.
It took a long while before Jinsol finally looked up. The rims of her eyes were distinctly red, and the tip of her nose was a little pink too.
“How do you cry so easily over everything?” Yoona looked at her pitiful state, trying to suppress a laugh but failing.
“I’m not crying.”
“Then why are your eyes red?”
“Because you made me emotional.”
Yoona wiped the little bit of wetness from the corner of her eye.
“Alright, go shower. You have to be up early tomorrow.”
“Shower with me.”
“I already showered.”
“Take another one.”
“Still no. Also, your showering together is never just about showering.”
Jinsol blinked, her face hanging somewhere between innocent and utterly guilty.
“I promise this time—”
“You promised that last time too.”
“What about the time before that?”
“You promised then, too.”
Jinsol thought back and realized she broke that promise every single time. Giving up the fight, she obediently crawled off the sofa, making sure to plant a kiss on Yoona before walking away.
“What was that for?” Yoona asked, slightly dazed by the sudden kiss.
“Collecting tonight’s payment in advance.”
“What tonight’s payment?”
Jinsol didn’t answer. She just laughed loudly and bolted into the bathroom.
By the time Jinsol finished showering, Yoona had already laid out the bedding. Jinsol collapsed onto the bed the moment she entered the room. Yoona switched off the lights and climbed under the covers. No sooner had she settled than Jinsol scooted over and wrapped her arms around her from behind.
“What’s really going on with you today?” Jinsol’s voice cut through the darkness, sleepy but serious. “You’ve been off since this afternoon. You were the one who pulled me into the dressing room earlier. Usually it’s always me. Then earlier you said something like that.”
“Like what?”
“That... from day one, I never once thought about pushing you away thing”
Yoona went silent for a moment.
“I was thinking about something today.” She finally spoke up.
“What is it?”
“How much longer we have to keep doing this.”
Jinsol’s grip around her waist tightened slightly. “Doing what?”
“Hiding like this.”
Jinsol didn’t say anything, just waited.
“I’m tired, Jinsol.”
Yoona uttered the exhausted phrase, leaving Jinsol stunned. She loosened her embrace and let Yoona turn around to face her. Looking into her eyes in the dark, she saw no tears, but the sheer exhaustion reflected there hurt worse than any tears could.
“Let’s go public.” Jinsol took a deep breath, voicing the words she had wanted to say for ages.
Yoona looked into her eyes. In the dark she could only see the rough outlines, but the seriousness coming from them didn’t need any light to be felt.
“You know what going public means, right?” She whispered.
“I know. Public backlash, fan reactions, management companies’ stances, whether it will affect future casting, labels people will put on us. I’ve thought about all of it.”
Yoona fell silent, because Jinsol’s words were an exact mirror of the thoughts she had run through her own head countless times.
“Aren’t you afraid?” She asked.
“Of course I am.” Jinsol said, moving even closer. “But wanting to be with you carries a bit more weight than those fears.”
Yoona didn’t know if it was coincidence or if Jinsol was just that telepathically connected to her, but she didn’t even care anymore. She looped her arms around Jinsol’s neck and pulled her in even though they were already incredibly close, pressing an immensely happy smile against her lips.
“Let’s wait until the movie wraps.”
“What happens after wrap-up?”
“Once we wrap, we will find a time to invite our friends out for a meal and tell them.”
Jinsol suddenly burst out laughing, curling up under the blanket like an idiot.
“What are you laughing at?” Yoona frowned.
“I kept stressing over how to bring up going public with you. I was scared you would think I was rushing things, or that you didn’t actually want people to know about us. Turns out you planned the whole thing out even better than I did. You’ve even already decided who to invite to dinner.”
Yoona felt a little awkward hearing that, so she buried her face in the pillow. “Stop laughing.”
Jinsol just kept grinning. That laugh made Yoona even more embarrassed. She swung her leg to kick Jinsol, though she barely managed to shift Jinsol’s larger frame an inch.
“One more word and I’m kicking you off the bed.”
Jinsol shut her mouth, but her hand started playing with Yoona’s waist.
Yoona, being ticklish, twisted a few times to get away, only to get held tighter.
“Don’t you have to be on set early tomorrow?”
“Yep, so I need to go to sleep right now.”
“Then what’s your hand doing?”
Jinsol stopped, placed her hand properly on Yoona’s waist, and in her half-asleep state still managed to press her lips to Yoona’s forehead, murmuring a soft. “Goodnight.”
The next day on set, Jiwoo noticed Jinsol walking out of the makeup room looking super energized and couldn’t help but feel curious.
“What’s up with you today? You win the lottery or something?”
Jinsol was practically floating, doing a little spin as she walked. “Something like that.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Even better than winning the lottery.”
Jiwoo watched her walk away all confused, then turned to see Yoona coming from the other direction, so she asked her.
“Yoona unnie, do you know what’s up with Jinsol unnie today? She seems to be in a spectacularly good mood.”
Yoona simply shrugged and smiled. “No idea.” Then walked off humming, which was like super rare for her.
Jiwoo just stood there frozen, watching Yoona also head in the same direction Jinsol went. She scratched her head, sensing that something was definitely off, though she couldn’t put her finger on it.
Just as she turned to head into the dressing room, she nearly jumped out of her skin when she saw Lily standing right next to her.
“Jesus, unnie, can you at least make a sound next time?” She gasped, clutching her chest.
“Finally.” Lily said out of nowhere, flashing a massive smile before walking away.
Jiwoo was even more confused now.
Finally what?
What the hell is going on???
