Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

Player sank into their chair, since they were too broke to afford their car insurance, they kind of lost their car…Therefore they had to walk their way to their new job, Home Safety Hotline, the advertisement said?- It was a very vague advertisement.

The place was dull, nothing different than regular office buildings.. The chairs were awfully uncomfortable, wood sticking out of the black leather. Their claustrophobia kicked in by how little space there was to move in their new cuticle.. God, this new job sucked already.

They inhaled deeply, sitting up from the stiff chair. They could feel their back aching already. Player reached for their mouse, deciding they should probably get to work or they’d be there all day. They clicked through the Lock Screen of their laptop, inputting their login information into the computer.

As they watched the laptop process their login information, they swore they saw a line of text that said “Human DNA confirmed”. But, before they could react, it went as fast as it came and switched to their desktop's Home Screen.

A notification from their Video Media Player pinged, and their cursor swiped over to it, clicking on it. A video started up, with calm music playing. ‘EVERY YEAR, THOUSANDS OF FAMILIES SUFFER INJURIES OR EVEN DEATH FROM COMMON HOUSEHOLD HAZARDS.’ The video read on the screen.

It displayed typical household hazards that were common, the usual.. Nothing bad.. Housefires, flooding, black mold, meta– WAIT, METAMORPHOSIS!? The imagery shown upon the screen was an unpleasant sight. A darkened staircase, with something seemingly staring from under, its piercing eyes glowing white and a slight hue of green.

‘Don’t become a statistic’ displayed on the screen shortly after, followed by the name of the company and a phone number. Though, they couldn’t shake the feeling of something watching them. They quickly clicked out of the video, deciding to clock in, since they were postponing it.

They moved their mouse to the program, hovering their mouse above the icon. They were hesitant, not sure what they were getting themselves into. Though reluctantly, they clicked on it to start their shift.
