Warm…
That was the first vague thought that came to mind in Miyano’s foggy brain.
It was a struggle, opening his eyes. The dead weights of slumber still hanging from his eyelids like someone had glued them in place.
When he finally managed to open them, he was met with a windowed wall that wasn’t his own, but seemed familiar to his sleep addled brain nonetheless. Light shone softly like a halo around the closed curtains, giving just enough diffused light to see by.
As he became more aware, the barely audible sound of voices reached his ears, only noticeable because it was so silent otherwise. With it came the faint scent of bread with a hint of something sweet. The smell familiar and soothing.
And he was warm.
Warm along his back and legs from the other body that lay close.
Warm from the soft breath that brushed against his nape in rhythmic intervals.
Warm around his waist where a arm lay loosely over him, its dead weight heavy but comforting in its own way.
Miyano pulled his arm under himself and slowly sat up on his elbow, every movement made with care so as not to disturb the person behind him. Looking over his shoulder, his face softened into a small smile at the sight of his sleeping boyfriend.
Slowly, and with as much care as before, Miyano twisted himself around so he was now laying on his other side, face to face with his slumbering partner.
With delicate fingers and a feather light touch, he combed through Sasaki’s bangs before continuing down.
Around his eye.
Past his ear.
Down his jaw.
Stopping at his chin before moving up to go over his nose.
Committing to memory every dip and curve.
I love him so much…
The arm around his waist tightened and gently pulled him in closer as its owner sleepily nuzzled into the space between his shoulder and neck.
“…’ove you to…” Sasaki’s voice was soft and laced with sleep.
Miyano felt his face grow warm. “I didn’t think I had said that out loud…” His voice was barely a whisper, not wanting to disturb the peace that surrounded them.
The ginger responded with a drowsy chuckle, placing a soft kiss near the base of Miyano’s neck.
Without much thought, Miyano started to card his fingers through Sasaki’s hair, eliciting a contented sigh from his partner who started to drift back into sleep.
In the back of Miyano’s mind, he knew they really should be getting back to studying. Entrance exams were close and he really wanted to make sure he passed.
But for now.
For just a little bit longer.
He’d stay in this bubble of warmth, wrapped in the arms of the one he loved most, and who his arms wrapped up in turn.
Content and happy.
Secretly wishing it never had to end.
