Chapter 1: First Moments

Chapter Text

Sinking.

Alone.

Afraid.

Longan Dragon Cookie felt the rocks cover them as they were sealed away, deep below the ocean. They had nothing; no siblings to keep them company, no dragon orbs, no power, nothing...especially their mama. Where did she go? Why did she leave them? Why did she leave them all alone? Why did she leave them to raise their siblings, WHERE DID SHE GO? They needed her more than anything, needed her to save them, to hold them close whilst she sang that comforting melody. How did it go again? Of course...

"Tar go dtí an cladach..."

A soothing, warm, honey laced voice was all they were aware of when they first came to. They couldn't see, only hear. This voice was maternal in nature - was this their mama? They wanted to move to the voice as the song continued. It took some effort, but they managed to start crawling to follow the voice.

"Tar go dtí an loch, tar go dtí na-The voice halted suddenly.

Longan Dragon slipped off of something, only being halted by a warm patch. It made their tummy fuzzy and tickily.

'Mama? MAMA!' They thought to themselves, chirping with excitement.

"You are a vocal one." The voice giggled, louder this time.

Longan Dragon was lifted up. They weren't scared; this was absolutely mama, who else would make their body warm and cosy. Their side warmed up as one of the squishy pads pushed them onto the other one. They were confused - there were other chirps, but where was it coming from? Was it threatening Mama? They made a weird noise - it was meant to be the most powerful roar they could muster, but sounded like a weird meep. There was another squishy being now next to them.

"Stop nomming me!" The voice laughed. "Longan Dragon, don't headbutt your sibling!"

Sibling? What was a "sibling"? The voice didn't really seem to be happy they were defending her, so they stopped. Wait - "Longan Dragon"? What was that? They were talking to them, so...was that their...what was it?

"I think..." The voice introduced, "I'll name you 'Pitaya Dragon'."

Name...so that was it. Their name was Longan Dragon. They didn't have time to process this before they were placed on a really cold surface. Where did mama go? Where was the warmth and coziness? They screeched as they felt this "Pitaya Dragon" crawl onto them. It was surprisingly cosy and comfortable, but it wasn't mama comfortable.

"Calm down, Longan, calm down, just let me get your other siblings."

Other siblings? Oh no no no no. This could not be acceptable. This was their mama. Wait, why were they climbing on them? Why were they that cosy? Why was mama giggling instead of saving them from being squished by these "siblings"?

"Girls," The voice giggled, "You...you have to come see this oh my goodness THEY ARE SO CUTE!!!"

The sound of...something...came closer and closer, as Longan Dragon and their "siblings" panicked, all uncertain what these "girls" are. Were they monsters? Would they eat them? They needed mama. Longan Dragon started chirping in panic, which seemed to signal their "siblings" to panic as well.

"Well, you've scared them!" A non mama voice called out.

"Shush, Megan!" The voice called out, "They only left the oven 4 minutes ago."

Oven? What was an oven?

"Hang on, let me see if I can lift them all up at once."

Great. Now they had to share the warm, squishy patch with these "siblings". Wait. Where were these "siblings?" Did mama abandon them already?!

"No, I cannot..." The voice called out. "Now Longan Dragon is upset and...well...ugh, you know how it is."

The "siblings" were now placed next to Longan Dragon - well, they assumed so, considering their body heat was next to them, and one was crawling on them. A small chuckle was heard from the voice, alongside the clinking of metal. It smelt...sweet and pleasant. Something made itself known in Longan Dragon's mouth, and they weren't thrilled.

"Looks like you've discovered you have a tongue." The voice giggled. "Anyways, who wants some nice food?"

The echo of the 4 hungry chirps crossed the entire cabinet of where they were perched, alongside impatient foot stomps, desperate to be fed by their mama. A small scrape happened, a clink of something else, and Longan Dragon Cookie was lifted upwards to be met face to face with mama.

"Open wide, Longan Dragon." The voice calmly asked, the smell of the item just out of reach. "Please don't headbutt me." She whispered.

Longan Dragon opened their mouth as wide as they could, as something cold was placed into it. Whilst the taste of the cold item was surprising, this "tongue" of theirs locked onto something savoury, rich and briny, and lapped at it. They weren't entirely sure how long it was, but when the taste had vanished from the cold item, they weren't thrilled.

"There we go..." The voice whispered, "Nice and full."

Their body went heavy with satisfaction after having their fill of this mysteriously delicious mush. They yawned loudly as they were placed in a cosy little...something, and drifted off into sleep.

They didn't know what they were in at the time, but the feeling of warmth and comfort never left their mind. Neither did the voice of their mother, the feeling of that mush, and their siblings' warmth. They closed their eyes, as everything went silent. Just them, their thoughts, and their memories.
