Work Text:
Susanna is there waiting for Jacob as he pulls himself out of the pond, tells him she’s been waiting there every day in the hope that he would show up, and she’s thankful that he’s made it back there before it’s too late.
Jacob asks her what year he’s landed in, and she confirms his worst fears; it’s 1820, the year he’d seen on Elijah Landry’s tombstone a couple of years earlier for him but two centuries in the future for Susanna, and the man who’s been his father figure ever since he’d become trapped in 1790 is now on his deathbed.
As Jacob is reunited with Elijah, embracing him for what he now knows will be the final time, a part of him wishes all over again he’d never let Elijah talk him into returning to the 2020s, which still don’t really feel like his own time, to escape Cyrus Goodwin, while another part of him wishes he hadn’t hidden himself in Toronto, away from his family and the pond, away from the means of spending time with Elijah while he still could.
