Work Text:
You swear you could count the time your reporter had pushed you away with, you told him they were assigned to do the news together like a casual pair of videographer and reporter, but damn it, he’s bullheaded as hell. He procrastinated—so much, that you slowly got overwhelmed by the thought of not getting what people wanted to hear in the news. The thought of people giving bad comments on you two news reports, "I don't like this, the reporter is talking bullshit, the camera can’t stay still”.
…
“C’mon, we’ve only got an hour left to head to the place, Kellin.” You said unyielding, you couldn’t bear him anymore, you’d wish you could’ve just pinched his brain and fried his brain cells.
“Can’t you just wait, dude? I’m trying to make my hair well-kept,” he encountered as he combed his hair back and forth, tidying up his tie and collar multiple times—he knew very well he’s gradually making you upset.
You huffed as you crossed your arms, standing on one leg. You looked at him through the mirror, seeing how focused he is with his appearance. He put his glasses on, very performative, you thought; but he thought it was the cherry on top. He turned around, showing off his outfit, and that wide grin appeared unapologetically. You threw his papers at him as he tried to pose.
“Let’s go, you’ve got no sense of urgency man.” You walked away from him with your camera gears, hands full of expensive tools you don’t wanna waste. You expected Kellin to follow you—he was, but he was slow as hell!
“You’re apathetic,” Kellin retorted, his gaze fixed to his tie, he’s still fixing that damn thing, and his steps are becoming slow.
“Kellin fucking Quinn, come on dude!!” You yelped, got his attention as he quickly ran towards you, now walking side by side, “how many times did I need to tell you to be quick?” You nudged his shoulder, he hissed as he tried to reply to your words but you quickly handed him another paper he had to read again.
You could see the expression in his face gradually changed—he squinted his eyes, mouth mumbling nonsense. He looked up at you, looking straight in the eyes, ready to give his best comment on the paper you just handed to him.
“I–”
“Shush, none of that, we have to go, the car’s waiting.”
“But there are–”
You grabbed his hand with your little finger, and he acted as if he was dragged by a whole truck.
…
You both entered the car—and weird enough, Kellin’s willing to sit by your side, after all the things he said were bothering him if he sat next to you (read: you made him hold your heavy cameras). Hm, something’s in the air.
You put your camera gears in the middle, giving a space between you and Kellin—and he looked a little unhappy with that. But he pretended to re-read the papers again, his eyebrows furrowed a bit.
You could sense he was going to say something bizarre, “what is it, Kel?”
“No.. nothing. I forgot what was i’m going to say because you dragged me.”
You sighed, this man.. Of course, had you on the thin ice. He sort of bore you, sometimes you wanted to hide his comb or phone somewhere; so one day he could apologize for everything he has done to you and decided to be good (read: he’s evil).
…
Half way in the car both of you decided to play that snake game on his phone, taking turns playing. You’ve lost between is this a good idea or better than nothing. Now it’s your turn, he watched you play the game on his small phone. He’s unusually closer to your face, you started to notice some things you shouldn’t. Ah, go away!
“Turn left, turn left!! You’re going to run out of space and die,” he hurried.
“Shut up, I have my own trick!”
“Whose phone is that?”
“Okay dude,” you clicked on many buttons, “I turned left, look,” you showed his phone as he tried to lean down, making his chin knock on his own phone, he let out a small ouch noise.
He rubbed his chin as he tried to soothe off the ache, mouthed “never do that again to me,” very well that he knew you couldn’t read mouth. You continued to play the game as he decided to take a look at the view through the car’s window. He hummed, looking everywhere until his eyes finally landed on you, unconsciously staring at you—playing games on his phone—looking like a small animal learning new stuff, he thought.
“Y’know, you look like someone who has never seen numbers bigger than 10.” He suddenly said, “do you know that number is up to more than that?”
“Excuse me?” You replied, eyes still fixed to the screen.
That cocky grin appeared again, he tried to touch your shoulder but you quickly dodged his hand away, “I’m focusing on the game!!” You yelped, you clearly knew he was going to tickle you or something—you still didn’t trust him!
“I was going to help you, c’mon!”
“Fuck off, Kellin!”
You two giggled like an insane pair of cats meowing at each other loudly, you tried so hard to hold his phone and continue on the game, until it buzzed. A name… oh.. Oh my God, it’s their co-worker! You panicked as you handed him his phone in a hurry.
He fiddled with his phone, and suddenly his buttons didn’t work. He tried to click on them very hard and harshly, the phone’s still buzzing. They thought they were gonna miss both the call and the report, but thank God, Kellin has an amusing way of thinking. He flicked the back of his phone twice before he could finally answer the phone.
“Hello? Yes, hello?” He casually covered your lips with his other hand, shushing you, “yeah, yeah, we’re near, hold on.” He continued to talk on the phone, as you slowly realized, his fingers were on your lips.. It made something bloom on your stomach. Oh my, you have to shut your thoughts up for a moment!
“I could cover my mouth by myself, thanks gentleman,” you swat away his hand, he raised his eyebrows in reply.
After a minute, he’s done with the phone call. You looked up at him, didn’t speak anything, but subtitles came out from your face—tilted your head to the side a bit.
“Oh, they were waiting for us, I told them we’re gonna be there in a minute.” He said, already knowing what you wanted to know with those eyes staring at him.
You nodded in response, taking a long exhale as you looked through the car’s window. Those thoughts you tried to bury deep down in your void, suddenly appeared again. What’s up with that feeling in your stomach? There’s no way, he’s stubborn as hell, he talks with his hand moving, he’s annoying like your little siblings, and his sense of humor is very questionable.
There’s no fucking way, right?
