Chapter Text
Near the town of Jericho, in Chittenden County in the State of Vermont, there is a school called Nevermore Academy, dedicated to the education of outcasts—which is to say, people with magical powers. This school is divided into four halls—houses, as our British friends would call them—two boys' halls called Caliban Hall and Thisbie Hall, and two girls' halls called Puck Hall and Ophelia Hall. In one of Ophelia Hall's many dorm rooms resided a young girl named Enid Sinclair.
This Enid was a very unusual girl. Firstly, she is one of the school's main gossip bloggers, with many of her classmates relying on her Instagram page for the latest juice. Secondly, while many of the other students share a dormitory, Enid had the entire dormitory dedicated to just herself, her numerous plushy animals, and the pink decorations she colored the room with. Thirdly, she is a werewolf… sort of.
Unlike many others of her kind, at sixteen years of age, Enid had not yet transformed into her wolf form—"wolf out", as the werewolves say. She could, however, extend her fingernails like claws, and she had an unusual strength. However, unlike your typical werewolf, she was what they call a "late bloomer"—and this, combined with her gossip, may be why she didn't have any roommates… yet.
She had recently been informed that somebody named Wednesday Addams is being transferred to Nevermore. This Wednesday had previously been educated in public schools in New Jersey with non-magical people—normies, as they are called. Moreover, she will be assigned to this very dormitory.
Enid had decided to look her up online, but she noticed an oddity—this Wednesday has very little online information. She had first checked to see if she has any social media: TikTok did not have any accounts by the name "Wednesday Adams" (or any variation of her name), nor did Instagram, or even Twitter. Of course, not every social media account has the user's real name, so Enid will have to ask her later.
She did, however, find some odd news articles involving Wednesday Addams (spelled, curiously, with two Ds) over the years.
Firstly, Enid found out from one very old article that this girl, Wednesday Friday Addams, was born on the Thirteenth of November, 2008, to Gomez and Morticia Addams. These names, Enid thought, are rather odd: she had only ever seen the name Gomez be used as a last name, while she had never met anyone named Morticia. These people live in some kind of run-down mansion in New Jersey that is well known for various odd and spooky occurrences, as well as a rather bizarre, Halloween-esque aesthetic.
Aside from that, another of the oldest articles, from around ten years ago, mentioned a six-year old girl named Wednesday Friday Addams who briefly ran away from her home, before returning again the same day. This child was one of two that ran away in the same town, with this incident occurring at the same time as an unrelated case, in which another boy from the Tunnel residence had run away from home for the seventh time that same day.
Another article, from five years prior, listed Wednesday Addams alongside her younger brother, Pugsley, as one of several students who were involved in burning a Thanksgiving pageant at some summer camp in New Jersey called Camp Chippewa, in protest against the whitewashing of American colonialism. Enid can understand why a Thanksgiving pageant would be controversial, though she wondered exactly why a Thanksgiving pageant with colonialist narratives would be performed at a summer camp.
And the most recent news was about the thing that got Wednesday to Nevermore to begin with: she had done… something to a normie classmate that had bullied Pugsley. Exactly what happened, Enid could not tell.
The more reliable sources, from news articles she read online, say that this Wednesday dumped some piranhas in a swimming pool, as revenge against some boys for an offense they did to Pugsley a few days prior, causing one of them to be severely injured. Although Nevermore had accepted some rather odd people, Enid had never heard of anyone who would respond to bullying in such an unusual manner.
Meanwhile, Enid had already heard various rumors about this incident, the nature of which are gruesome enough that even she decided not to make any public comment on the matter until she could verify these claims.
Fortunately, she will meet this Wednesday very soon. Enid had decided that she will get to the bottom of these most confusing mysteries.
