Chapter Text

The guitars of an 80s new wave song played through the tinny speakers of Abbacchio’s phone, signaling 7 a.m. arriving. It played for another 15 seconds or so before Abbacchio’s eyes fluttered open and his hand flew over to grab his phone. He swiped the “dismiss” button and practically tossed it down beside him as he rubbed his eyes awake.

Abbacchio sat up and looked at his hand he just swiped across his face, only to find it streaked with black and white smudges. Fuck. He had spent so long working on his art project last night that he didn’t find the time to remove his makeup before collapsing into bed. The memory of his project struck a pang of anxiety through Abbacchio as he remembered the fast approaching deadline on the project. Whatever. That was for a more caffeinated version of himself to deal with.

Groaning and pulling himself out of bed, Abbacchio meandered to his closet. He really had been in rough shape last night if he didn’t even pick out an outfit for himself. Black jeans and a band t-shirt it was then. Abbacchio spent a far too long amount of time picking out which black shirt out of the sea of them in his closet to wear before ultimately deciding on a Bauhaus album cover. He tossed it in a pile with his other clothes and picked them all up to head to the shower.

The rest of the morning went smoothly, with Abbacchio deciding he didn’t want to put effort into full regalic makeup for a halfassed outfit on a Wednesday morning and instead opting for eyeliner and lipstick only. He grabbed two granola bars out of the pantry plus his backpack and made his way to the bus stop.

Abbacchio stuck his earbuds in the second the front door shut behind him. He still had a second until the bus arrived, so he pulled out his phone and walked a bit slower.

Unfortunately, his phone was already more active than he was.

Study gc plus the idiot

Idiot in question: fugo no youre shitting me

Fugogogo: You would know if you opened your laptop, Narancia.

Idiot in question: wait omg ABBAAAaaa abababa can i borrow ur laptop charger in lit pleasepleplaspe i need it so bad

Abbacchio waited a second before answering if only to make Narancia squirm a bit.

Honey honey by ABBA: are you actually going to return it this time?

Honey honey by ABBA: or are you going to keep it in your room for two weeks again

Idiot in question: THAT WAS ONCE LAST YEAR

Idiot in question: i promise ill return it ill literally give you one of my rings as complacent

Fugogogo: It’s compensation, Narancia

Idiot in question: whatever its called whateverrr you get it

Honey honey by ABBA: fine. see you 2nd

Idiot in question: SCOREEE YEYSYSS GTAHNK YOUU

Abbacchio slid his phone into his pocket as the bus arrived. His feet traced his memorized route to his normal seat; he always sat near the back but not near enough to be grouped with the trouble that resided back there. The half awake state of Abbacchio’s mind almost caused him to sit down before noticing a shift in his normal routine.

Someone was in his seat.

Abbacchio just stood awkwardly, glaring at the kid in his window seat. He had never seen this guy before, with his weird blond hair curled at the front and his sweater that was somewhere between pink and purple. And his slacks, ew what is this guy wearing? He had the audacity to steal Abbacchio’s seat and look like a Glee reject while doing it?

His internal monologue was interrupted as the boy spoke. “Ah, sorry, am I in your seat?” The boy tilted his head in question.

“It’s… fine.” Abbacchio just grimaced, sitting down but leaving enough room that he was hugging the edge. His unfortunate seat partner tried to speak, introducing himself as something that started with a j sound, maybe, but Abbacchio just turned up his music volume and pretended not to hear him.

The tortuous bus ride ended soon enough, and Abbacchio shoved in front of some odd looking freshman to separate himself from the person who was sitting beside him.

The rest of the walk to Chemistry class was silent for Abbacchio. His only two friends, Fugo and Narancia, had classes on the other side of the building, so they all met up later in the day.

Abbacchio took his seat in class and grabbed his notebook and folder. It seemed like all they did in that class was take notes.

Everyone filed in as the bell rang and class started, and Abbacchio was grateful for his daily routine. That gratitude lasted about five minutes.

As the teacher started to pull up his slideshow and turn on the whiteboard, the door opened. Abbacchio felt his lip instinctively curl up in disgust as the person who opened it showed their face.

It was the guy from the bus.

The teacher just grinned and beckoned the student in. “Ah, glad to see you’re joining us, Giorno. Let me find a seat for you.” Scanning the room, the teacher’s eyes landed on the first empty spot, which coincidentally was right beside Abbacchio. The teacher pointed. “Right there, Giorno. We just started this unit yesterday, too, so I’m sure Leone will let you copy off his notes.”

Abbacchio tried to will some superhuman power into existence for him to beam “Please don’t let this fucking kid sit anywhere near me” into his teacher’s brain, but as Giorno walked over and sat, Abbacchio gave up on any higher power.

“Leone, was it?” Giorno smiled and Abbacchio felt his insides churn.

“Abbacchio.” He shoved his notebook towards Giorno silently. Thank God he actually took notes yesterday and didn’t draw in the margins like normal.

After he copied everything down, Giorno slid the notebook back towards Abbacchio, who took it silently and started writing down the day’s notes.

Class ended without any more bumps, and Abbacchio made sure to pack up quickly and leave the room, lest the preppy new kid try and talk with him.

Abbacchio entered his literature class and beelined for the back of the room. Narancia was already there, tilted back in his chair and playing a game on his phone. Upon seeing Abbacchio, and true to his word over text, Narancia dropped his phone and clasped his hands together, silently pleading.

Rolling his eyes, Abbacchio set his backpack on his desk and fished out a tangled cord. He handed it over to Narancia, who hastily plugged it in and connected it to his laptop.

The rest of the class went off without a hitch. Abbacchio paid half attention with one earbud in, while Narancia hid his phone behind his copy of A Farewell To Arms the class was currently covering.

After a while, Narancia glanced at Abbacchio before whispering to him to get his attention. When that proved futile, Narancia resorted to poking him with the sharp end of a pencil, resulting in Abbacchio flinching as his hand flew up to cover the affected area.

“Jesus, what do you want?” Abbacchio hissed under his breath.

“Did you see there's a new kid? Fugo texted me.” Narancia turned his phone towards Abbacchio. It was open to an Instagram post. Of course Narancia was stalking people. Upon closer inspection, Abbacchio saw an infamous face.

Abbacchio rolled his eyes. “He's the new kid?”

Narancia took his phone back. “You know him?”

“He took my goddamn bus seat and then tried to be all buddy-buddy with me in Chem.”

“Shiit. He looks nice enough.”

“Ew. I don't think so.”

The teacher’s voice at the front of the class raised. “And, Narancia, if you and Leone are so invested in this book back there, you can tell me the relationship between Rinaldi and Henry.”

Narancia scrambled for an answer. “Uh… Uh, lovers?” The class snickered.

“Very funny Mr. Ghirga. Anyone else?” The teacher turned to a very eager red-haired boy and pointed his dry erase marker at him. “Yes, Noriaki.”

Narancia turned back to Abbacchio with an exaggerated look of terror at being caught. He kept his mouth closed for the rest of class.
