Professor’s Day Off

Summary:

Professor Anaxa takes the day off from work to take his clingy boyfriend on a date to the aquarium.

Notes:

It’s only been a week or so into the summer and I’ve become severely bored and decided to actually write an idea I’ve had stuck in my head for while, but never really started it bc school and procrastination.

The irritating sound of Anaxagoras’s alarm had gone off, waking him.

Anaxagoras wanted to turn it off and begin getting prepared for his lectures, but inconveniently enough he was trapped in Dan Heng’s tight embrace.

Yes, very cute and endearing but, his boyfriend’s embrace only seemed to hinder him.

He would push him off, but he was far too heavy for his rather frail body, so he’d just have to deal with the agitating alarm or wake him up, but he couldn’t bring himself to, especially after Dan Heng began burying his nose into the nook of his neck.

After an hour of idleness, Anaxagoras eventually realized Dan Heng was awake and was just clingy. When his long scaly tail had curled around his leg.

Not wanting to delay his schedule any longer he elbows him in his stomach.

Realizing it didn’t work he opted out to just calling out his name instead.

“Dan Heng…”

“…Yes?” Dan Heng lazily murmurs, seemingly still half asleep.

“You’re going to make me late and your horns are stabbing me. Let go of me.” He said sharply.

“You’re already an hour late and it takes forty minutes to drive there, what’s the point?” He mumbles.

The tail around his leg only became tighter.

Unable to resist his pleas he gives in. “Fine. I’ll take the day off to indulge myself in you. Just get off of me, so I can inform my teaching assistant that I’ll be out so she can go over the lecture material.”

“…Okay.”

Dan Heng hesitantly lets go of him. Making his way to the kitchen to prepare breakfast.

Soon after, Anaxagoras takes a bath, which is interrupted by an incoming call from his teaching assistant Hyacine.

Anaxagoras groans as he picks up the call.

“Professor Anaxagorasgoras! Are you sick again? I can come over and take care of you if you need me again?” Hyacine says frantically.

“No need to worry Hyacine, I'm not sick, I’m just taking the day off since my boyfriend felt particularly clingy today.”

“Oh right! I remember him, Dannie!” Hyacine’s voice changed quickly from worried to calm the moment he mentioned his name.

Anaxagoras chuckles lightly at the nickname Hyacine gave him.

“How has he been treating you?”

“He’s been treating me well Hyacine, he’s currently preparing breakfast.”

“Sounds like you both are happy with each other. Don’t worry about your absent report. I'll just tell Miss Aglaea that you're sick again.”

Anaxagoras huffs exasperatedly at the mention of her name.

“Don’t remind me of that wicked woman…”

“Anyways, bye Professor! Tell Dannie I said hi as well!”

“I will Hyacine, make sure to check the lecture material I sent you.”

Though Anaxagoras and Aglaea hated each other's guts, Aglaea had been informed by Hyacine of his chronic illness and how it could suddenly flare up even if the day before he had seemed perfectly fine. Which had led to Anaxagoras being granted far more sick days than his fellow co-worker.

Though he’d occasionally take advantage of them like now, most times he’d have to be dragged out of his class by Hyacine if he was sick.

Or at least before he had met Dan Heng, who he loved too much to deny help or concern from.

As he wrapped himself in a towel he could feel Dan Heng behind resting his hands on the side of his shoulders.

“Hyacine says hi.”

Dan Heng rests his head on his shoulder looking dejected.

“If you want something from me just tell me, I prefer you being direct.”

“I don’t want anything from you.”

“Then why are you so clingy today?”

“I’ve just missed you.”

“How come?”

“You’ve been working endlessly for the past month and always wake up before I can get the chance to say goodbye or make you breakfast.”

Anaxagoras sighs, recognizing his negligence.

“Well, how would you want me to make up for it?”

“I want to go on a date.”

“Alright then, where?”

“The aquarium.”

“Give me an hour or so to get ready.”

Anaxagoras couldn’t help but adore how Dan Heng was trying his best to conceal his excitement with his stoic face, but fails to, due to his tail wagging.

Dan Heng hurriedly eats his breakfast, while still watching Anaxagoras closely to make sure he eats his breakfast.

The first thing Dan Heng did was search for a decent date outfit.

After a couple of minutes he came to the conclusion that he needed help on what to wear.

Luckily he already had a friend in mind to help him with his crisis.

Dan Heng: March, could you help me out with choosing what to wear on my date?

March: The student has become the master…

Dan Heng: What..?

March: Don’t mind me. Just send me a picture of what you’ve chosen!

He sends a picture of teal, black, and red cardigan. Along with a pair of bootcut jeans and straight legged jeans, and a collared white button up undershirt.

He waits as he sees the text bubble pop up and disappear.

After waiting what felt like an eternity, March responded.

March: Wear the bootcut jeans with the black cardigan and white undershirt.

Dan Heng: One more thing, should I wear glasses or contacts and should I wear my hair down?

March: I’d say your glasses and wear your hair up, I think you’ll look pretty cute^ ^!

Dan Heng: Thanks March.

March: No problem! But I think you’d look great no matter what you wear╰(*´︶`*)╯♡!

Dan Heng: That means a lot to me March, anyways I’m going to get going now.

March: Awww thanks Dan Heng!! I hope you two have a nice date, bye-bye (๑>◡<๑)!!!

Anaxagoras steps out of his closet wearing a teal sweater vest and a white undershirt with wide legged jeans.

Dan Heng's eyes are immediately drawn to him.

“You’re staring an awful lot.” He said with playful mockery.

“Sorry, it’s just been a while since I’ve been able to go on a date with you.”

Anaxagoras sighs as he sits down on the bed putting on his shoes.

“No need to apologize, if anything I should be apologizing to you for disregarding your needs.”

Dan Heng sat down next to him. Grabbing his hand, holding his hand to lips, kissing it gently.

“It’s fine, I should probably text Hyacine to remind you to take a break from working and go on dates with me more often.” He teases looking at him sweetly.

Anaxagoras and Dan Heng's eyes meet for a moment before Anaxagoras broke contact, pushing his face away, looking away from him, feeling flustered from how bold Dan Heng was acting.

Dan Heng moves closer to him, his hand brushing Anaxagoras’s asymmetrical bangs to the side to see his magenta eyes that fade to a pale aqua.

“Please just promise me to not overwork yourself.”

“I don’t make promises that I can’t keep”

Dan Heng looks at him sternly.

“But since you’re the one asking, I'll try to…”

Anaxagoras checks the time on his watch.

“Lets get going before it gets any later.”

“Alright.”

As they make their way to the admission stand, Anaxagoras notices a familiar face.

“Cifera, is that you?” Anaxagoras asks curiously, tilting his head.

Caught off guard by the familiar voice of her arrogant sounding professor, jumps like a cat, her ears and tail twitching nervously like a squirrel on caffeine.

“Prof Naxa~!” Cipher teases.

“It’s Professor Anaxagoras, Cifera. Aren’t you supposed to be in my lecture right now?” He says. Glaring at her, as he would anytime she’d ask a completely idiotic question during his lectures.

“C’mon Prof, I told you to just call me Cipher~. Besides, aren’t you supposed to be teaching right now, it is Monday after all Prof Naxa?”

“I took the day off.”

“Well then who’s that hottie next to you?” Cipher points at with her golden nails.

“It’s none of your concern what I do or who I’m with outside of lectures Cifera.” Anaxagoras snaps, blushing slightly.

Before Anaxagoras could even dismiss who he was Dan Heng took the initiative to introduce himself to her.

“Hello Miss Cifera, I’m Dan Heng.” Anaxagoras, stares at him hoping that he’d catch on, that Cipher is one of his rather chatty students

“I’m his…roomate.” He reluctantly says.

“You sure about that? You two look pretty gay holding hands like that.”

“Yes.” Dan Heng responds quickly, sweating a bit, which made Cipher all the more suspicious.

Cipher leans over the counter, whispering to Dan Heng “I know what you two are…”

Anaxagoras glares at her looking infuriated.

Cipher’s ears and tail drop. Not wanting to have her grade in his class dropped again, she quits instigating.

“Anyhow…, tickets for two? We also have couple discounts as well—“

“Enough Cifera, just give us the tickets.”

“Y’know Prof, since you’ve been such a great professor this semester I’ll haggle your tickets to be 30% off if you raise my grade.”

“I don’t care, I’ll pay the full price. Pay attention and skip less and maybe you’ll pass.”

Anaxagoras swipes his card.

Cipher pushes a tip jar towards him looking in the opposite direction while her tail was pointing towards the jar.

Anaxagoras sighs, dropping a fifty. Dan Heng following up, dropping a fifty as well.

“Meow! Thanks Prof Naxa and Prof Naxa’s boyfriend for paying for my lunch and dinner!” Cipher shouts as they made their way past the gates.

Dan Heng pulls out a small paper he had gotten from Cipher, that shows all the exhibits in the aquarium.

“Which exhibits do you want to visit?”

“Whatever ones you’d like to visit, after all you were the one who dragged me here.”

“Right..”

After a couple minutes of thorough thinking Dan Heng grabs Anaxagoras's hand leading him to the tropical fish exhibit.

Anaxagoras immediately takes the lead as he quickly ran towards the tropical fish tunnel.

“Fascinating…” Anaxagorasgora stares in amazement at the fish, eyes practically sparkling like stars in a void.

Dan Heng smiles faintly letting out a proud huff.

He had initially wanted to go to the library, but decided that Anaxagorasgora had probably had enough of reading and needed something to divert his attention away from work.

Noticing how much calmer Anaxagoras looked from his usual tense face he began to relax as well. Letting his mind drift, allowing himself to enjoy the sight of the fish.

Soon that state of peacefulness was broken by Anaxagoras’s words.

“You don’t need to worry about me Dan Heng.” He muttered quietly still staring at the fish but with less of that childish amazement he had previously seen in his eyes.

“You need me to, who else aside from Hyacine would care for you then?”

“Though we are not married” yet, he thought “it is still my duty to take care of you.” Dan Heng said solemnly.

Left speechless by his persistence in taking care and loving him, he scowled, but looked at him fondly.

“You’re insufferable…” Anaxa said sarcastically affectionate.

Dan Heng triumphantly smiled before leaning onto his shoulder, closing his eye with a slight smile, coiling his tail around his leg.
