Work Text:
“Jakob, are you okay?”
Jakob hums in response.
“Do you want me to take over?” Kevin continues.
“No, I’m good!” Jakob says, with no conviction. Kevin looks at him with a sceptical eye.
“The road’s that way,” Kevin says, pointing out the front windscreen.
“Yeah, I know,” Jakob says, eyes darting back to the road. He makes a minor adjustment to the steering: wobbling the car. Jakob gulps, hoping Kevin hasn’t picked up on it. Despite Jakob, Kevin and everything on the dash wobbling too.
“You’d do a lot better if you actually looked at it,” Kevin starts, turning to look out the passenger window, then mumbles, “more than me!”
“Oh,” Jakob says, feeling his cheeks warm, “I-erm…”
“Yeah, I noticed,” Kevin smiles. Not that Jakob sees (he does), he’s got his eyes firmly on the road now (he hasn’t). “If you get us there alive, I might let you kiss me…. Maybe then you’ll stop stating at my lips!” but there’s laughter in Kevin’s bright and easy tone.
Jakob’s blush seemingly gets brighter, but he’s grinning.
“You’ve gotta get us there alive first though, Jakob!”
Jakob has never had more reason to both stare at, and completely ignore, Kevin.
