Work Text:
It was a wonderful show
The music may have been a bit slow for Rooster's taste, but he can’t deny that it was beautiful.
The person playing it may have distracted him for most of the time he'd spent sitting in that auditorium, as that someone stood proudly atop a well lit stage, carefully pulling a bow over the strings of his violin, playing note after note of enchanting songs.
Though, if Rooster isn't mistaken, there may have been some somber undertone to that music.
Shrugging away that thought, Rooster passes through a door labeled ‘Backstage: Staff Only’, which of course he ignores, as he has no idea what it says.
Amelia said that she would often meet with Marco after his shows, so the staff knew her well enough to gift two extra backstage passes to the people tagging along with her.
Kore and Amelia were busy talking with each other, and she told him to just go on ahead without them.
So, here he was, wandering through brightly lit halls, waiting to turn a corner and spot a definitely-not-incredibly-handsome drow across from him.
Eventually he does just that, as he hears voices echoing along the walls, and sees a small group of people walking and talking, the one at the front being unmistakably Marco.
His pure white hair is as well kept as always, with what isn’t tied back into a ponytail falling across his back like silk. His chest is mostly covered by a loose-fitting button up, with tight black pants worn over his legs, and some fancy kind of shoes that Rooster didn’t recognize.
It didn’t take long for Marco to notice someone standing across the hall, and quickly froze in his tracks, eyes growing wide in disbelief and shining like they were still under a spotlight.
Rooster manages to meekly wave at him, trying not to look too long at him lest his face grow more pink than usual.
Whatever papers Marco must have been holding fall to the floor with a soft rustle, his shoes tapping lightly against the ground with each step forward, before he gives up on elegance and starts running toward the genie.
Tensing up as Marco quickly approaches, Rooster finds himself lifted from the ground as the drow spins him once around, laughing joyously, before bringing him in for a firm embrace.
Rooster pretends that it’s only hard to breathe because he’s being held too tight.
“You’re…” Marco starts, voice just barely more than a whisper “You’re ok. You’re alive.”
“Yeah- Yeah I- uh-” Stutters Rooster
Marco cuts him off. “Where were you?!??” He pulls away from the genie, looking into his golden eyes for some kind of answer. “Where’d you go? I- are you ok?? I ne-”
Someone off to the side clears their throat.
Turning their heads to see, there’s one of the people Marco had been talking with, a mustached man looking over at them with a curious gaze.
Marco glances between the two people near him. “Oh, sorry just... one sec I’ll be right back.” he grabs Rooster’s hand and pulls him off to a nearby room.
The drow closes the door behind himself, and Rooster looks at the surrounding room.
It’s really fancy, that’s for sure.
Potted plants, a soft looking couch, a vanity along one of the walls, and a plush carpet beneath his shoes.
Between every look at the area though, he glances down at his hand, remembering what had just happened, with Marco clasping their hands together and tugging him along.
It was an interesting experience, and he wishes he hadn’t liked it as much as he did.
It wasn’t long before a hand pressed against his shoulder, and Marco guided the both of them towards the couch, sitting down and patting one of the cushions, inviting Rooster to sit down beside him.
As soon as he takes that invitation, Marco grabs his shoulders and leans in close to speak.
“Now, tell me everything.”
-
One long explanation later, and Rooster is finally able to feel a bit relaxed around the drow, who sat beside him the entire time, listening to his words with just as much attention the genie gave him during the show.
“-and I’m really sorry for suddenly going missing, I didn't really mean to do that.” Rooster says with a gentle laugh. “You probably aren't too happy with me.”
“No it's alright, I’m quite glad that you’re back.” Assures Marco.
“So... so you don’t hate me for disappearing?”
“Of course not! I was so worried about you, and I really, really missed you.” Marco blurts out. “I could never hate you, truly. You’re my best friend, and I love you.”
Well it’s good to know that he doesn’t-
Wait, what was that last part?
Tilting his head in confusion, failing to fully process what was said, Rooster watches as a look of realization washes over the drow as he clasps his hands over his mouth in shock.
“I- I didn’t- It’s not- I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to-” Marco takes a deep breath. “I’m gonna go- calm down for a moment, I’ll be right back.”
He sits up.
“Wait, I-” Rooster grabs the drow’s hand as he tries to walk away.
Their eyes meet, staring back at each other, before the genie suddenly drops his hold as if it was burning iron he held and not soft skin.
He pats the spot beside himself, just as Marco had done moments before.
Giving in to the offer, the drow sits down.
“Okay, well-” Marco starts, refusing to make eye contact any longer. “Maybe we could walk this back a bit. I think I’m acting a bit stupid right now because I’m just- surprised to see you, cus like, wow I did not mean to just blurt that out.” He punctuates the sentence with a nervous, half-hearted chuckle.
Rooster hesitates to speak. “No, no it’s ok. I- also-”
Previously running his fingers through his hair, Marco slowly turns to the genie, expression equal parts surprised and hopeful.
“You... what?”
Quickly growing nervous, Rooster fiddles with his scarf, regretting those words as he eyes the door, and mutters something incoherent under his breath.
“Hey, don’t leave me in the dark here.” Insists Marco.
“I- nevermind, it’s nothing.” he mumbles.
“I most certainly heard you say something that seemed like you were finally trying to confess.” A teasing smile returns to the drow’s face as he leans closer to Rooster.
“It’s not- Wait, finally? No I- You’re-” He struggles to speak with the taller figure so close to him. “-just... imagining things”
“What, you think I’m daydreaming or something?”
“...maybe.”
“In the case that this is a dream,” Marco jokingly suggests, “Then you wouldn’t mind if I gave you a kiss, would you?”
There he goes again, saying things that make his chest grow tight and his face grow red, that make him want to curl up like a bug and die of embarrassment.
And given how close they are, Rooster is able to take in every detail of the drow looking at him with such expectancy.
The two loose buttons on his shirt, still showing a portion of the well-toned chest poorly hidden underneath, with soft hair lightly peeking over that V pattern.
A gentle, sweet smell emanating from him, maybe from some kind of expensive, floral cologne.
The scars that scatter across his whole body, origin unknown to the genie.
That unfaltering, smug smile that always shows itself in the moments he teases him in such a way.
And those ruby eyes, glistening with some kind of newfound light, as though he’d found a new star in his sky and couldn’t bear to not bask in its glow.
Rooster makes a quiet noise halfway between words and the sound a dog toy makes, unable to tear his vision from the handsome figure that sits beside him, closer than the genie had ever willingly brought the two of them before.
“Well?” questions Marco, snapping Rooster halfway out of his stupor. “Would you like a kiss?”
“Y- yeah.” He chokes out, faster than he could stop himself.
Marco places a hand just under Rooster's ear, leaning down to stare into his eyes, smiling gleefully.
And slowly he moves forward, and presses his lips to the side of Rooster's face. Just a quick peck on the cheek, sweet and gentle. Nothing too intimate, so to not scare away the genie.
It also leaves just the faintest amount of lipstick on him, which Marco finds that he quite likes to see on him. It isn't some fancy color, just a simple shade that matches his own grey-ish tone, but it contrasts nicely with the pink of Rooster's skin.
And though to a normal person something so simple shouldn't have done much, for Rooster it feels as though someone has lit him on fire. Marco can easily see how he's about as red as his hair, burning up as though with a horrible fever, flustered beyond any point he'd gotten too before.
He's frozen, sitting on the soft couch with Marco. Not that he didn't like it, no, he thinks it was perfect, just as annoyingly perfect as everything Marco seems to do. He's just not so sure what to think about it.
“Rooster? You alright?”
The genie's eyes snap their attention to the drow, who's still sitting right beside him.
He looks a strange mixture between amused and mildly concerned, looking down at him like one would stare at a cat that got stuck in some tiny container.
“Yeah, yeah I’m- I-” Rooster starts, before trailing off, his eyes failing to wander away.
He might just lose himself if he stares too long, taking in every detail over and over, remembering that feeling of warm breath against his face, before the drow had placed a light kiss against him, leaving a light matte texture in its wake that he still has yet to notice.
He’s already gone this far, is there any harm in doing it again?
Turning his body and reaching to the side, he grabs onto Marco’s shirt collar, careful not to damage it.
Pulling him closer, there’s just a small gap between them that he’s just too... Scared? Embarrassed? Maybe even shy? Whatever it is, he just cant seem to bring himself to close the distance.
He doesn’t know what he’s doing, he’s never done something like this before. He just knows that he likes this, that he wants this, and that Marco seems to want it too, and that nothing else matters at the moment.
Giving the genie a few seconds of grace, Marco sets one of his palms to rest on the back of Rooster's head, looking for any sign of resistance before going back in, this time kissing him in full, gifting a silvery purple color those pink lips. It's soft yet swift, the both of them enjoying these seconds of sweet bliss.
Their eyes are closed, and Marco’s other hand reaches up to cradle the genie’s face once again, running his thumb over the spot he’d kissed him once before.
The drow’s grip on him is purely to hold him close, and should Rooster want to, it would be a simple task to move himself away. But it's actually the drow that breaks it, just for a moment, as he stares into the genie's gilded eyes.
“Are you still ok with this?”
He looks wary, a bit serious when he says this.
Rooster nods his head.
“You don't- have to ask so much.” He informs, voice slightly straining in his fluster.
“I'd like to think that it's better safe than sorry. I don't want to push you to do something you don't want.”
“But we're just- It's ok, I- I want to-” Rooster's volume dips just below a whisper, nervousness wracking his mind. “...kiss you.”
“Are you certain?” asks Marco “You don't seem too sure of yourself.”
“I'm just not used to- talking about stuff like this.” A shy smile finds its way across his face. “But, I'm sure.”
“Alright then. You can leave if you ever change your mind.”
At this, Marco goes back in, pressing his lips against the genie's cheek.
He moves slowly and deliberately, as he places kiss after kiss all over Rooster's face. By now the two of them have turned fully towards each other, the drow leaning over him.
Gently leading Rooster to tilt his head up, he kisses just at the base of his head, then trailing downward and doing the same to his neck, again and again. That feeling against sensitive skin sends shivers through the genie, who keeps his grip on Marco's shirt collar tight, and his eyes shut even tighter, his ears occasionally flicking happily.
It's as they both hear a sudden knock on the door that it all comes to a halt.
Marco pulls away, whirling around to look toward the doorway in alarm, just as it opens. Standing in its wake is Kore and Amelia.
Panicked, the drow shoves a nearby pillow into Rooster's face, pushing his back onto the soft cushions of the sofa, trying to hide the grayish makeup that's dotted onto the genie in the vague shape of lips.
Trying to stamp down the blush that creeps up his face, he turns back toward the people nearby.
“Heyyyy, Hi Amelia, Kore. Hi.” He stumbles over his words. “What are you- How are- Are you guys doing good? How are you?”
After taking a moment to clue everything together, Amelia's expression shifts from being curious, to realization, to her barely being able to hold from bursting into laughter. The demon standing next to her, however, is giving Marco some kind of suspicious death glare that honestly kinda scares him.
A gruff voice speaks up, tone laced with distrust. “Why are you hiding Rooster?”
“I- I'm not- It's nothing, you don't have to- I-” Marco sputters out, trying to think of some answer that doesn't have anything to do with what actually happened.
Every sound from the drow seems to only serve to make him more suspicious, as he takes a step forward, hand dangerously close to the chain glave attached to his waist.
Thankfully, Amelia stops him with an arm spread out, blocking his path
“No, It's fine, don't worry about them.” She says, still holding back a laugh. “Why don't we just give them a bit of time to themselves?”
The smug expression on her face says it all as she pushes Kore out of the room, despite the demon's protests, sparing a knowing glance back at Marco, and closing the door behind her.
Finally releasing his hold from the pillow, he lets Rooster sit back up.
Shaking away a dazed expression, the genie looks at Marco.
“So uh... What- What now?” he asks.
“Well, do you want to pick up where we left off?”
Rooster thinks about it, blushes, and mumbles.
“Y- yeah, I would.”
