Work Text:

Becky sat at a small table in the back corner of beanies. It was her long awaited day off, which was a rare occurrence nowadays. Originally she planned to sleep in and sit around doing nothing all day, but her body had gotten used to the constantly need to wake up at gruesome hours. So here she sat, instead drinking shitty coffee in a almost completely empty cafe.

She supposed it wasn't that bad. She had her book with her, one that she'd been meaning to finish for probably months at this point. And it was quite. Not silent, as there was the occasional talking from ordering customers or the quiet ring of the bell as somebody new walked in, but it was still quite. It was also nice as Emma was working today, and they made some polite conversation of Emma talking not so quietly about how she hated her job.

But of course, the peacefulness came to an end as a woman walked in. The ring of the bell made Becky look up from her book and then lower again, not really paying attention before doing a double take when she realized who it might be.

The click of the heels, the overly blond hair, the fierce posture and sour expression. Linda. Who else could it be. Becky had learnt to recognize that look from any where. But why did she have to be here? Of all days? Why now? She sighed, maybe if she just didn't look up from her book Linda wouldn't notice her. And so that's exactly what she did.

If only she could actually read the pages. Linda was speaking on the phone, probably to Gerald as always, well also telling Emma her order at the same time. It was incredibly distracting, especially with how loud she was being. God. Did that woman ever learn how to shut up?

Becky rolled her eyes as Linda finally paid and began to find a table to sit, silently praying that she would finally stop causing a scene. Which of course, didn't happen.

She could feel Linda's presence, but before she could even look up she heard in a tone she had long since gotten used to "Becky barnes! What a sight seeing you here. Shouldn't you be out giving false hope to a bunch of worthless kids?"

The comment hurt more then Becky wanted to admit. She really cared about some of those kids, and who did Linda think she was? How would she feel of one of her 'perfect' boys were in the hospital.

Becky sighed quietly, closing her book and placing it down. She turned her head enough to look in Lindas eyes. There was this fiery look that seemed to be taunting, desperate even, for Becky to make some smartass comeback. But she just couldn't, not today. She was exhausted, all she wanted was to drink her coffee and read her book in silence without any interruptions but of course she couldn't have
that.

And so instead of giving Linda an answer, she simply turned her head away, flat out ignoring her. "It's actually my day off, but thank you for the concern, Linda."

Linda's eyes flashed with a look of disappointment, but it disappeared the moment it was there. She rolled her eyes, a smirk forming on her face. "You are a sad, strange woman barnes. It's a wonder why Stanley even stayed with you at all. HA, it's a surprise it took him this long to leave you for that woman in clivesdale!"

Becky froze, her hands beginning to shake ever so slightly, but she could tell Linda could see it. She slowly picked up her coffee cup, just needing something else to focus on. The world around her began to blur ever so slightly, tears slowly forming despite how much Becky wanted them to disappear.

Linda scoffed, tossing her hair back out of her face. "Don't you know it's rude to ignore people when they're talking to you, barnes, or are you finally growing some backbone."

Becky slowly turned her head, her gaze meeting Lindas. She was staring down at her, her phone in one hand, her purse in the other, standing confidently above her. Linda's eyes narrowed, a small smirk forming on her face when she saw Beckys eyes beginning to shine. "Oh don't give me that look. I mean seriously, it's so pathetic how you're acting. Are you really just going to let me walk all over you?! It's no fun when you just sit there and take it!"

"What do you want Linda." Becky's voice was quieter then normal, her tone one Linda hadn't heard before. "I don't want to fight. Especially not with you, and especially not today."

Linda seemed completely taken a back by Beckys words. Her confident display seemed to crumble in real time, the smirk fading from her face and her posture slumping slightly. She even seemed to be at a loss for word's. "I-..." a moment a of silence fell over them, and just for once, Becky thinks that maybe Linda regrets her actions.

Linda stares at her, her eyes still fierce, but a softer look in them in you look hard enough. Just as Lindas about to say something, Emma calls out order for Linda.

Becky stares at her as Linda stands there for just a moment longer before she mutters a quiet "forget it". She turns on her heel, grabbing the coffee from a confused Emma and storming out of the coffee shop.

Becky stares at the door, watching the bell slowly shake from the force before coming to a gentle stop. Her eyes are still slightly watery, but she can't seem to get herself to look away. A thousand thoughts fill her mind. What was she going to say? Was she going to apologize? Does she actually...care?
