I Will, Just Like My Namesake, Pull You Into Me

Summary:

Now there isn't a lot Riptide does for other dragons.

Except for Tsunami.

Anything for Tsunami.

Notes:

Prompt:

Tsunami fails to catch up to Scarlet after she reveals Glory's supposedly decapitated head and flies off. Devastated thinking she just lost her sister, she lands by a river bed and breaks down in tears. Riptide, on a mission with the Talons of Peace in the area, sees Tsunami like this and comforts her. Fluff ensues.

Tsunami isn't around when the head is revealed to be fake and I always wondered how she handled thinking her sister was dead prsumably for hours. Using this as an excuse to answer my question and get some Ripnami fluff while I'm at it. Hella underrated ship btw.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

You’re dead.

You’re dead.

You’re dead.

You’re dead.

If I catch you.

You’re dead.

Closer

Closer

Closer

Closer

Closer

Please get closer.

I’ll break you.

Your life is forfeit.

I AM ready for this, Scarlet.

I’ll show YOU who can’t handle violence.

I’ll…

I’ll…

I’ll…

Tsunami felt the fight leave her wings. She almost fell before catching herself, trying to keep up with the quickly disappearing red dot in the distance. She let out a guttural roar, one that echoed throughout the mountains, before moving to land in a clearing below. Clenching a claw she slammed it into a tree, sending ripples of pain down her foreleg. She cursed silently and collapsed into herself, weeping.

-

Blue.

That damned shade of blue.

Riptide saw it and all other thoughts left him.

It was her.

He’d recognize her anywhere, from any distance.

And now he had thoroughly left Squid in his dust, confusing the other Seawing.

Tsunami had landed quite far away from Riptide, so when he finally got close enough to see her he was quite winded. He stopped for a moment, just out of her sight. He took a second to readjust his breathing patterns so he didn’t seem like a panting mess. This opportunity was, however, cut short suddenly as he was pounced upon, knocked to the floor with claws against his neck.

“Riptide?” His assailant, which he quickly realized was Tsunami, asked. “It’s you!” She retracted her grip and pulled Riptide to his claws. “I’m so sorry I thought you were…”

“Scarlet?” He finished, jokingly, which earned him an almost guilty look from Tsunami. “Wait really?”

“She came to Jade Mountain.” Tsunami explained, looking disturbed. “She… she… threw Glory’s head at us. I tried to catch her… and… and…” Tears began to form at the ends of her eyes. “I couldn’t get her Riptide, I lost sight of Scarlet, I failed.”

Riptide felt stunned for a moment before he pulled Tsunami into his arms. The gesture wasn’t as comforting as he hoped as it seemed Tsunami had grown much larger than him in their time apart and she awkwardly rose to full height as he clung to her kind of pathetically. The moment was thankfully saved as she put her head on his.

“Glory’s capable.” He comforted Tsunami, stroking a claw down her back. “Calm down, do you really think anyone could’ve actually…”

Tsunami was silent for a moment. Putting his head, Riptide began to listen to her heartbeat. It was quick and frantic, but seemed like it was gradually slowing down.

“No they couldn’t.” She eventually spat out. She pushed Riptide away. “I have to go back.” She muttered. “Look at it again. It looked wrong, Riptide.” She stretched her wings out to prepare to fly before wincing in pain.

“Are you okay?” Riptide asked as she grumbled in complaint.

“My wings are sore.” She sighed, beginning to walk away from Riptide.

“Are you just going to walk back?” She nodded and Riptide dashed up next to her. “Well I’m coming with you.”

“Thanks Riptide… I appreciate it a lot.” She smiled, before frowning and hitting him with her tail. Squid-brain. She flashed in aquatic. “Don’t you have stuff to do with the Talons?”

“It can wait.” He answered. For you. He thought, but didn’t dare say. Only for you. “Are we going or what?” Groaning at him Tsunami bumped him with her wing and continued into the forest together towards Jade Mountain.

Notes:

Sorry this is so short! I haven't really had time to work on it, but hopefully I can come back to make it longer during the summer when i'm finally free!
